Rich and famous are paying obscene amounts for homes in South Florida

The ongoing stampede of the rich and famous into South Florida is propelling real estate prices to new highs.

The average cost of a spread in Palm Beach — home to an ever-growing roster of celebrities and financiers — climbed to nearly $16 million in the first quarter of 2022, according to the Serhant South Florida Report issued Thursday.

Limited inventory and voracious demand pushed the average price of a Palm Beach pad up by 44% compared to the same quarter in 2021, the study found.

The quarter saw a slew of stratospheric trades — including the $45 million sale of a home belonging to a Jordanian princess, according to The Real Deal.

The median price of a Palm Beach house jumped from roughly $7 million in the first quarter of 2021 to nearly $10 million during the same period this year — a hike of 46%.

Median Palm Beach condo prices also skyrocketed over that stretch, surging from $1 million to about $1.6 million — an increase of 52% over just one year.

More Democrats Split With Biden as White House Hints at No Delay in Scrapping Title 42

A dozen Democrats have urged for a comprehensive plan to address the expected influx of migrants at the southern border before the Biden administration ends Title 42 expulsions.

The White House said on April 20 it’s “planning and preparing for the end” of the Trump-era public health order, which was implemented amid the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020 and has since been rejecting asylum-seekers at U.S. borders.

The ongoing migrant expulsions policy is set to expire on May 23 under the Biden administration, as press secretary Jennifer Psaki said current funding levels will not meet the needs of law enforcement agencies once Title 42 is lifted.

The move sparked outrage among Republicans and a growing list of Democrats, including those in tough races for November midterms seeking reelections or other positions, are breaking up with Biden on the reversal.

Longtime U.S. House of Representatives member, Ohio Democrat Tim Ryan, said rolling back Title 42 is “wrong and reckless” in a statement to Fox News. Running for a challenging Senate race, the high-profile candidate is also a co-sponsor of a bipartisan bill—led by Reps. Tony Gonzales (R-Texas) and Jared Golden (D-Maine)—to stop Biden’s unplanned reversal.

Golden, who is seeking reelection, said Biden’s move could “create crisis conditions that would be dangerous for both migrants coming to America and Americans themselves.”

The Department of Homeland Security reported a record of more than 221,000 encounters at the southwest border in March alone, with arrest numbers reaching the highest in two decades.

AOC says January 6 riot was a 'trial run' and claims 'they're going to come back' if Republicans retake the House in the mid-term elections

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has said that the US Capitol riot last January was a 'trial run' and that Congress could come under mob attack again if Republicans regain a majority.

'If we lose the House, this is no joke – January 6 was a trial run and a lot of people don't seem to understand that,' the New York Democrat said at a town hall in Queens on Wednesday.

'It was a trial run, and they're going to come back if they win the House,' she continued. 'The only reason it wasn't worse is because Democrats had the House, and they didn't have the votes.'

'If they take the House, then they have the votes to not authorize and legitimize the presidential election, whatever the results are. So this is very serious,' added Ocasio-Cortez.

Philadelphia to End Indoor Mask Mandate

Philadelphia's indoor mask mandate is coming to an end.

"Due to decreasing hospitalizations and a leveling of case counts, the City will move to strongly recommending masks in indoor public spaces as opposed to a mask mandate," a spokesperson with the Philadelphia Health Department told NBC10 Thursday night. "Given the latest data, the BOH voted to rescind the mandate."

The mandate will be lifted on Friday.

The reverse decision comes only a few days after Philadelphia became the first major city in the U.S. to reinstate its Covid-19 mask mandate for indoor activities as the highly contagious omicron BA.2 subvariant drives new Covid cases higher across the country.

Philadelphia reinstated its mask mandate on Monday after cases jumped 50% from April 1 through April 11, health officials said. Hospitalizations were steady as of April 11, but have since rapidly risen. The number of people hospitalized with Covid in the city almost doubled last week, from 46 people on April 11 to 82 people on Monday — which health officials called a "worrisome sign that this wave could be more dangerous than we had hoped."

"We have been watching this wave of the pandemic sweep over Europe and it looks like it's coming to Philadelphia now," Health Commissioner Dr. Cheryl Bettigole said in a statement Monday. "We need to do whatever we can to make sure that our most vulnerable neighbors and loved ones stay safe. Each and every one of us has the ability to save lives today by putting our masks on and helping to stop the increase in cases."
