he announcement was made by the Palace yesterday. Prince Edward and his wife Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, were set to head off on their travels on April 22 as a part of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

However, without any explanation as to why it was removed, Grenada has been removed from the list of countries.

The royals were set to visit Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, St Lucia, and St Vincent and the Grenadines from April 22 to 28.

But they will no longer visit the country following a “consultation with the Government of Grenada and on the advice of the Governor General”.

In a statement, the Palace added that the couple hope to visit at a later date, but did not confirm a new time.

The royals jet off today - and are set to meet communities, local entrepreneurs and craftspeople, and young people on the islands, as they mark the momentous milestone for the monarch.

While visiting Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Prince Edward will meet athletes in training for the Commonwealth Games, to be held in Birmingham this summer.

It comes after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were criticised for some parts of their recent Caribbean tour.

In March, part of Prince William and Catherine's Caribbean tour was axed after opposition from locals.

The pair had been due to visit a cacao farm in the foothills of the Maya Mountains but it was removed from the couple's schedule following reports of a protest opposing the royal trip.

Meanwhile, the Queen celebrated her 96th birthday on Thursday.

Recently, Buckingham Palace announced that the monarch, 95, would not be attending the Maundy Thursday service at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.

For the first time she was represented by the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall at what is considered an important fixture in the royal calendar.

The Queen is understood to be in good health but has some mobility problems.

Last month, she was escorted by her son the Duke of York into a memorial service for her late husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, in her first major official engagement in six months.

She has been increasingly delegating public appearances to other senior royals.

As well as the Maundy service, Charles stood in for the Queen at the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey last month.

Expert predicts blackout in Europe: "That means no supermarket, no water, and no Internet for 10 days"

Veröffentlicht am 22. April 2022 um 11:13 von Simone Haug

Although he expects a widespread power blackout in Europe soon, he cannot say exactly when it will occur. The catastrophic scenario could occur as early as this year or even in five years' time; in any case, it cannot be prevented.

Chaotic conditions as a consequence

In any case, the consequences would be devastating. Saurugg's predictions foreshadow bad things:

In Austria, I expect a blackout to last around 24 hours. Across Europe, it could even last up to a week. A 24-hour blackout means that everything will come to a standstill for over a week.

This would mean that offices and factories would come to a standstill, there would be no more water, no access to the Internet, and supermarkets could not continue to operate normally (food could no longer be refrigerated, cash registers could no longer be used, etc.).

Saurugg's comments on this are even more detailed:

Supermarkets would certainly have been closed for a week, if not longer - and that's with a 24-hour power outage. Because: logistics are interrupted, the electronics chain. The staff is itself in an extreme situation. How is a supermarket employee supposed to reach the workplace at all without public transport or fuel?

If you are prepared, you don't have to be afraid

His recommendation is therefore: Preparation is half the battle.

Enough bottled water should be kept in the household, sufficient canned food should be available, as well as rice or certain medicines, and indispensable hygiene articles should also be on hand in case of emergency. People with babies should of course also think of sufficient diapers and milk, insofar as these are (still) used.

The expert advises against the use of emergency generators, however:

Many do not know how to operate it. The fuel belongs properly stored, has a limited shelf life and there is again a risk of fire. If I am the only one in the street with a light, I also have a good chance of getting uninvited visitors.

Above all, he says, it is important to have good cohesion within the family and the neighborhood.
