3 children die on same day at Camp Lejeune Marine Base

Three children died in two separate incidents on Saturday at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Base officials confirmed the deaths to WNCT and other local media channels and said the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) has begun investigations.

“We are aware of the tragic passing of three dependent children in two separate incidents on MCB Camp Lejeune April 16, and offer our deepest condolences to the families of those affected,” Marine spokesman 1st Lt. Ace Padilla told WNCT.

Base officials did not provide many details about the deaths of the three children. Padilla only said, “There was no shooting incident tied to either event.”

Officials also did not provide information about the ages or identities of the dependent children who died on Saturday.

“Out of respect for the families and the investigative process, we are not providing additional information and NCIS does not comment on or confirm details relating to ongoing investigations,” Padilla added.

On Thursday, Rep. Greg Murphy (R-NC) called for more transparency surrounding the deaths and the investigation.

“I think transparency is never a bad thing. As facts come out we just need to know,” Murphy said, according to WITN.

“I understand investigations that are ongoing, they need to be given clearance to be able to do their job. . . but also transparency with the public about actually what’s going on, so that God forbid if something were like this to ever happen again, we could prevent it before it ever does,” Murphy added.

WNCT reported Camp Lejeune had hosted Easter events, including an Easter egg hunt, egg relay races and face painting last Friday, the day before the three deaths.

Two U.S. Marines were killed and seventeen more were injured in January after a seven-ton medium tactical vehicle replacement (MTVR) rolled over in a highway crash near the base. Investigators believe the rollover occurred when the vehicle’s driver drove too fast around a right-hand turn.

Parent speaks after Sarasota School Board tosses her for what she was 'about to say'

Melissa Bakondy was surrounded by police officers and ejected from board meeting

A Sarasota County, Florida, parent who was kicked out of a school board meeting this week for what she was "about to say" said Thursday that the board's liberal majority is "destroying our school district, targeting parents and eliminating dissent."

Melissa Bakondy, a mother of four, was surrounded by police officers and ejected from a Sarasota County School Board meeting Tuesday after calling out a board member by name over comments she allegedly made during a previous meeting.

"At the last meeting, Shirley Brown was caught on the microphone –" Bakondy said during the meeting before being cut off.

"Stop talking about school board members," board Chairwoman Jane Goodwin interrupted. "You cannot go and expound on school board members. I’ve warned you several times."

When Bakondy asked why, Goodwin responded, "You were about to say something horrible about Shirley Brown. … You’ve said things about me that were untrue. Leave, please."

Goodwin then asked Bakondy, "Do you have children in our school district?"

The question prompted an audible gasp from conservative board member Bridget Ziegler, who fired back, "That is not appropriate. … You don’t get to ask people who come to a public meeting whether they have children or not. Period. You are way out of line."

Ziegler's husband, Florida GOP Vice Chairman Christian Ziegler, posted a portion of the exchange on Twitter.

Texas Dem Voted To Cut Law Enforcement Jobs Amid Concerns of Cartel Violence

'It is a major reduction of safety in the area,' local mayor said of Dan Sanchez's decision

As local officials warned of "spillover" cartel violence from Mexico, a Texas Democrat cut law enforcement positions in the same border county he is now running to represent in Congress.

As a Cameron County commissioner in 2011, Democrat Dan Sanchez voted to remove two constable positions from his local community. Constables are licensed law enforcement officers in Texas who have "authority to use all lawful means" to "preserve the peace" within their county. In some rural areas, such as those in Sanchez's county, constables are the primary source of law enforcement services.

Sanchez's move sparked intense backlash from other local officials, who accused the Democrat of "taking away community policing" amid increasing concerns of cartel violence. Cameron is Texas's southernmost county—as a result, Mexican cartel members have historically lived in the area, often bringing narcotics and weapons with them. Then-local mayor Steve Brewer argued that Sanchez's vote would impede law enforcement's ability to mitigate the subsequent "spillover violence" seen in some Texas border towns. "It is a major reduction of safety in the area," Brewer said.

Roughly a decade later, Sanchez is running for Congress in Texas's 34th Congressional District, which former congressman Filemon Vela (D.) vacated in March. The Democrat's campaign comes as illegal immigration skyrockets under President Joe Biden. Senior Department of Homeland Security officials expect migrant apprehensions to surpass 2.3 million this year, a substantial increase over the 1.6 million seen in 2021, which was a record.

The trend has helped drive Hispanic voters away from Biden and could sink Democrats' chances to retain Vela's district in a June special election. According to an April Quinnipiac poll, just 26 percent of Hispanic voters approve of the president's job performance. Fifty-one percent of Hispanics in Texas, meanwhile, want a stronger border security presence, while only 13 percent want border security measures to decrease, a February WPA Intelligence poll shows.

Sanchez voted to take away constable positions just two months after he and other commissioners approved a property tax increase. Sanchez told the Valley Morning Star in September 2011 that the move was necessary because the county's budget was "as lean as it could be without eliminating positions." Still, Sanchez went on to eliminate the two constable spots shortly thereafter—Brewer said the decision was "really, really tough to sell" given the recent tax increase.

Sanchez told the Washington Free Beacon he is "a strong supporter of law enforcement and our U.S. Border Patrol." He did not answer questions on his decision to take away law enforcement positions in his county.

Sanchez, who launched his candidacy earlier this month, is considered the "most formidable Democrat running in the special election." Democrats have struggled to attract candidates for the race, given that Rep. Vicente Gonzalez already won the party's nomination to fill the seat in November but declined to run in the special. The special election's winner will only serve the remainder of Vela's term, which expires in January.

In the November general election, Gonzalez will square off against Republican nominee Mayra Flores, who is also running in the June special. Born in Mexico, Flores works as a respiratory care practitioner and is a strong critic of Biden's border policies, which she says "abandon the rule of law and jeopardize our national security."

Biogen pulls application for Alzheimer's drug in Europe

The drugmaker said the move follows interactions with the European Medicines Agency that suggested data provided so far would not be enough to support an approval.

Biogen Inc BIIB.O said on Friday it will withdraw the marketing application for its controversial Alzheimer's drug, aducanumab, in Europe after the US biotech company failed to convince the European regulator of the treatment's benefits.

Biogen shares were down $7.54, or 3.5%, at $210.86.

The drugmaker said the move follows interactions with the European Medicines Agency that suggested data provided so far would not be enough to support an approval.

The agency in December rejected the drug, and Biogen had sought a re-examination of its decision.

"We stand by the safety and efficacy of aducanumab, and we look forward to upcoming data readouts to continue to provide important information on the science of this new class of compound," said Priya Singhal, Biogen's interim head of research.

The drug was approved in the United States last June, a controversial decision since only one of two late-stage trials showed that it helped slow cognitive decline. The Food and Drug Administration's own panel of outside experts had advised against approval.

The FDA decision was based on the drug's ability to clear amyloid plaque from the brain, which the agency said is likely to slow cognitive decline for early Alzheimer's patients.

The US Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services also did not agree with the decision. Medicare earlier this month severely limited its coverage of the drug to patients in clinical trials, which will significantly restrict patient access.

Analysts expect minimal sales of Aduhelm in the next few years.

"We see limited options for aducanumab and a commercial path forward," BMO Capital Markets analyst Evan Seigerman said in a research note on Friday.

Eli Lilly and Co LLY.N, Roche Holding AG ROG.S and Eisai Co Ltd 4523.T, which is partnered with Biogen, also have plaque-clearing drugs in late-stage development.

Biden Regime Still Refusing to Sanction Roman Abramovich, Russian Oligarch Who Fled to Israel

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen unveiled a host of new sanctions targeting Russia on Wednesday but wheeling-and-dealing Russian-Jewish oligarch Roman Abramovich was notably missing from the list.

Yellen said a month ago Abramovich "could" face sanctions and she would "certainly" not take it "off the table" in the future but no sanctions have been forthcoming.

Abramovich was filmed fleeing to Israel on March 14 after the war broke out.

The Chairman of Israel's Holocaust museum Yad Vashem, Dani Dayan, last month personally lobbied US officials to keep Abramovich off the sanctions list by telling them it would hurt donations.

It came out later that Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky himself who has plenty of experience making backroom deals with corrupt Israeli oligarchs quietly lobbied Joe Biden to keep Abramovich off the US's sanctions list by claiming he was helping "facilitate peace talks."

Docs: Spygate Researchers Did Work For Former Special Counsel Robert Mueller

The U.S. Department of Defense and private individuals pumping the Alfa Bank hoax also assisted former Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Donald Trump for supposed collusion with Russia, newly discovered documents suggest.

The Georgia Tech researchers embroiled in the Alfa Bank hoax prepared white papers for the U.S. Department of Defense about the Democratic National Committee hack and created a “Mueller List” on the Russian intelligence agency hackers, the newly obtained documents indicate. The white papers were prepared for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), a section of the U.S. Department of Defense.

A recent dump of documents from Georgia Tech reveals that explosive detail and several other facts connected to the continuing special counsel investigation into Spygate. Here’s a rundown.

White Papers for the U.S. Department of Defense

Last month, The Federalist first reported that Special Counsel John Durham’s team asked lead Georgia Tech researcher Manos Antonakakis: “‘Do you believe that DARPA should be instructing you to investigate the origins of a hacker (Guccifer_2.0) that hacked a political entity (DNC)?’” Antonakakis responded that that was a question for the DARPA director, an implied acknowledgment that yes, DARPA had asked him to investigate the hack.

In response, DARPA’s chief of communications denied any involvement “in efforts to attribute the DNC hack.” “Dr. Antonakakis worked on DARPA’s Enhanced Attribution program, which did not involve analysis of the DNC hack,” DARPA spokesman Jared Adams told the Washington Examiner. Adams further told the Washington Examiner that “DARPA was not involved in efforts to attribute the Guccifer 2.0 persona, nor any involvement in efforts to attribute the origin of leaked emails provided to Wikileaks.”

But now an email obtained by The Federalist indicates Georgia Tech researchers drafted a series of white papers for DARPA, including on the “DNC attack attribution,” and on what they called a “Mueller List” of “domains and indicators related” to DNC hackers.

The email dated July 23, 2021 followed Durham dropping a second subpoena on Georgia Tech for more documents related to its investigation of the Alfa Bank hoax and other related issues. (More on that subpoena below). In that email, a lawyer representing David Dagon, the second Georgia Tech researcher involved in the Alfa Bank hoax who also worked on the DARPA Enhanced Attribution program, shared a list of “documents/data sources” Dagon believed would be responsive to the subpoena of Georgia Tech documents.

Listed under the heading of “DARPA whitepapers” were four documents, including “Whitepaper on DNC attack attribution”; Analysis of attacks of EOP (Executive Office of the President) networks”; “Whitepaper for DOJ on APT-29 related hackers, crypto coin transactions, and analysis that includes Yota-related domains”; and “‘Mueller List’—list of domains and indicator related to APT-28.”

Of these DARPA whitepapers, the first and fourth both relate to the DNC hack, with the final paper also connecting to the Mueller investigation. APT-28 is the more formal name for the Russian intelligence group of hackers known colloquially as Fancy Bear. As part of his investigation, Mueller charged 12 Russian intelligence agents allegedly working as Fancy Bear with crimes related to the DNC hack.

This email represents the latest evidence suggesting Georgia Tech and DARPA assisted in the DNC hack investigation and Mueller’s investigation, notwithstanding DARPA’s strident denials.

Yota-Related Domains

The above email raises a second question worth probing, namely whether tech executive Rodney Joffe used the whitepaper Georgia Tech researchers prepared for DARPA on “Yota-related domains” in his continued attempt to frame Trump as colluding with Russia.

As I explained earlier this week, in February 2017, Michael Sussmann, allegedly on behalf of Joffe, presented the CIA four files of data purporting to show the use of the Russian-made Yotaphone near Trump. The Yotaphone supposedly traveled with Trump to Michigan and later to the Executive Office of the President during the presidential transition period.

The Georgia Tech documents also reveal that this subpoena is the second served on the university by the special counsel’s office, with the first issued in fall 2020, according to another email. (One wonders what the original subpoena sought and what put the investigators onto the Alfa Bank and Yotaphone trail.) Emails released also indicate that the special counsel’s office subpoenaed documents from Dagon.

Immunity for Dagon

Emails included in the Right-to-Know release from Georgia Tech also provide more texture to the Durham case against Sussmann, who is currently awaiting trial next month on a charge that he lied to the now-former FBI General Counsel James Baker in providing Baker data and white papers purporting to establish the Trump-Alfa Bank secret communication network.

Last Friday, in response to Sussmann’s claim that Durham should be required to provide Joffe immunity so the tech executive would testify on Susssmann’s behalf, the special counsel noted that to date it had only immunized one witness—Dagon. The special counsel noted that it granted Dagon immunity on July 28, 2021, “because, among other reasons, at least five other witnesses who conducted work relating to the [Alfa Bank] allegations invoked (or indicated their intent to invoke) their right against self-incrimination.”

The documents reviewed by The Federalist show that, as of July 26, 2021, Dagon was “en route to DC for his meeting with the Special Counsel and testimony with the Grand Jury,” meaning the immunity grant came late in the day for Dagon. Another email from Dagon’s attorney to Georgia Tech noted that “David Dagon was given full statutory immunity by the Special Counsel in its investigation.”

“He has been cooperating and working with the Special Counsel’s team and testified before the Grand Jury on three days,” Dagon’s attorney Jody Westby told the Georgia Tech legal team, in the context of requesting payment from the university for the legal services Westby and her team performed on behalf of Dagon.

That Dagon testified for three days before the grand jury suggests the special counsel’s team had quite a few questions to ask the cyber researcher. From another email, it seems likely that, whatever Dagon said, he convinced the special counsel’s office that Antonakakis was not involved in any criminal activity. On July 29, 2021, Antonakakis’ attorney Mark Schamel emailed DeFilippis, noting that now that the special counsel has “appropriately categorized Dr. Antonakakis as a witness,” they would happily discuss a follow-up meeting with Durham’s team.

Georgia Tech Entered a Joint Defense Agreement—Until It Didn’t

Another fascinating detail contained in the Georgia Tech dump concerned the apparent joint defense agreement the individuals ensnared in the Alfa Bank hoax initially entered into with each other. A “joint-defense agreement” is where parties agree to exchange confidential information and work together, typically, but not always, in relation to a criminal investigation. When parties have entered a joint-defense agreement, they may share information and communications with each other, without the communications losing the protection of attorney-client privilege.

After the special counsel dropped its second subpoena on Georgia Tech, Dagon’s attorney emailed a lawyer at Georgia Tech, noting that Dagon would not be responding to the subpoena served on Georgia Tech—that was solely Georgia Tech’s responsibility. Dagon’s attorney then added: “We have never seen the first subpoena Georgia Tech produced or your production; nor have we seen this second subpoena. Although Georgia Tech agreed to an informal joint defense agreement, after we produced our subpoena and relevant documents, Georgia Tech pulled back from that and refused to share any information, . . . We are also not privy to your discussions with the Special Counsel office.”

World Bank Chief Warns Of Food Crisis Due To Russia-Ukraine Conflict

The World Bank has warned of a “human catastrophe” from a food crisis that could see millions forced into poverty due to the full-scale invasion launched by Russian forces in Ukraine.

World Bank president David Malpass told the BBC at the IMF-World Bank spring meetings in Washington that record food prices could see hundreds of millions of people forced into poverty if the conflict in Ukraine does not come to an end.

“It’s a human catastrophe, meaning nutrition goes down. But then it also becomes a political challenge for governments who can’t do anything about it, they didn’t cause it and they see the prices going up,” Malpass said.

The World Bank calculates there could be a “huge” 37 percent jump in food prices which will hit the poor the hardest and see them “eat less and have less money for anything else such as schooling,” Malpass continued. “And so that means that it’s really an unfair kind of crisis. It hits the poorest the hardest. That was true also of COVID.”

Regarding the “broad and deep” price hikes, the World Bank chief said it was “affecting food of all different kinds of oils, grains, and then it gets into other crops, corn crops because they go up when wheat goes up.”

Both Russia and Ukraine are key exporters of grain and supply nearly 30 percent of wheat and nearly 20 percent of corn in the global market.

Food prices were up nearly 13 percent in March, the highest on record since 1990, according to the United Nations’ FAO Food Price Index.

Meanwhile, the U.N. has previously warned that Ukraine’s food supply chain is “falling apart” due to Russia’s invasion.

While Malpass noted that there is enough food globally to feed everyone, and stockpiles throughout the world continue to remain large by historical standards, the World Bank president said there would need to be a sharing or sales process to ensure that the food goes where it is needed.

He also said there needs to be more of a focus on boosting supplies of fertilizers and food across the world and assisting the poorest of people while discouraging countries from subsidizing production or capping prices.

The World Bank chief also warned of a knock-on “crisis within a crisis” that could occur due to developing countries being unable to service their large debts from the COVID-19 pandemic as they struggle with rising food and energy costs.

California Parents Allege Teacher, Admin Conspired To Teach Eight-Year-Olds About Gender, Sex

Some parents in Glendale, California, reprimanded a public school board after emails uncovered a third-grade teacher allegedly conspired with district officials to teach eight-year-olds about gender and sexual identity, according to videos from the meeting.

Emails obtained via a parent’s public records request reportedly found that a third-grade teacher in Glendale Unified School District subjected students to videos on LGBTQ ideology and comments about nudity. During an April 19 Board of Education meeting, parents identified the teacher as Tammy Tiber.

Tiber reportedly sent an email to the district’s Teaching and Learning Department after a parent pulled her child from a Zoom session on LGBTQ Pride month.

“Today I talked to my class about LGBTQ pride month and played 2 short videos from YouTube that were geared towards kids,” the email read. “A parent who heard the lesson and discussion made her daughter leave Zoom and texted me asking me when I was done discussing sexual orientation so that she could let her kids back into Zoom. I was planning on doing more lessons tomorrow and Wednesday, but now I’m afraid to.”

Tiber allegedly listed YouTube video links that discussed LGBTQ ideology, including one that talked about being attracted to nudity in film.

District officials responded to Tiber’s request by quelling her fear and offering strategies to discuss the ideology under the radar, according to the emails.

One parent called the emails “appalling.”

Another Glendale Unified School District mother, who spoke at the April 19 school board meeting, excoriated the board for allowing this teacher to continue teaching such lessons.

“These are eight-year-old children that she’s trying to hold a sexual orientation class with,” the mother said. “You guys want us to believe that this isn’t a propaganda, that no agenda is being held. This wasn’t just any sexuality class, this was specifically designed. Three days a week she taught LGBTQ curriculum in her class.”

Truckers Shutdown LA Freeway In Protest Of Biden’s Fuel Prices

With signs airing complaints about the impact of rising fuel costs and freight brokerage companies ‘ripping off’ both customers and carriers, a group of about ten big-rigs ground traffic to a halt in Glendale, California.

Stu Mandel, an Aerial photojournalist with FoxLA, was the first to report on the protest that took place just outside of Los Angeles.

From his SkyFox vantage point, he captured pictures and video of the gridlock traffic. In a tweet posted to his account, he stated that the truckers were shutting down lanes in protest of fuel prices.

The nationwide quarantines of the COVID-19 pandemic have seemingly alerted truckers to the critical role they play as the backbone of interstate commerce and how they are often left out of the minds of those that depend on them. Earlier this year, The People’s Convoy of truckers fed up with vaccination mandates left parts of the Maryland, Virginia, and D.C. highways in gridlock traffic for weeks after being inspired by a Canadian protest called the Freedom Convoy.

NBC Los Angeles reports:

Big rigs, some with banners demanding lower diesel fuel prices, were stopped on the southbound 5 Freeway near the 134 Freeway interchange. Traffic was crawling past in one last of the 5 Freeway.

The California Highway Patrol incident log indicated some drivers were out of their vehicles and walking on the freeway with banners.

Some of the big rigs pulled to the side of the road later Friday morning, allowing traffic to resume.

Still, questions remain. Will this show of discontent and desperation inspire other truckers to take similar action? How long had this protest been planned? Have the truckers appointed a spokesperson to further elaborate on their grievances?

The Gateway Pundit will keep you apprised of any developments.

UN refuses to back Ukraine 'genocide' claims

The international body says it hasn’t documented such patterns during the Ukrainian crisis

The UN has declined to support accusations by Kiev and Washington that Russia’s actions during its military offensive in Ukraine have amounted to genocide.

Ravina Shamdasani, the spokesperson for UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), was addressed on the issue by journalists on Friday.

“No, we have not documented patterns that could amount to [genocide]," she responded.

Shamdasani pointed out there were “a lot of these legal qualifications - crimes against humanity and genocide - at the end of the day would be for a court of law to determine.”

According to the UN’s own definition, ‘genocide’ includes “acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Moscow of “genocide” after the events in the Kiev suburb of Bucha, where numerous bodies with signs of execution were discovered on April 1, shortly after the withdrawal of Russian troops from the area.

Russia, which insists that it doesn’t target civilian populations in Ukraine and only hits military targets, has rejected the claim and in turn has blamed Kiev of organizing a staged provocation in order to smear its forces.

However, US President Joe Biden has decided to follow Zelensky’s lead and has also accused Moscow of “genocide,” and of “trying to wipe out the idea of even being Ukrainian.”

In 2018, Kiev's former Foreign Minister, Pavel Klimkin, admitted that 3 million Ukrainians live in Russia.

The harsh comments have raised eyebrows in Washington, with NBC reporting that US intelligence agencies didn’t have information to support Biden's assertion. Two State Department officials also complained to the broadcaster that the president's words “made it harder for the agency to credibly do its job” as it is up to the department to formally determine war crimes.

Russia attacked the neighboring state in late February, following Ukraine’s failure to implement the terms of the Minsk agreements, first signed in 2014, and Moscow’s eventual recognition of the Donbass republics of Donetsk and Lugansk. The German and French brokered protocols were designed to give the breakaway regions special status within the Ukrainian state.

The Kremlin has since demanded that Ukraine officially declare itself a neutral country that will never join the US-led NATO military bloc. Kiev insists the Russian offensive was completely unprovoked and has denied claims it was planning to retake the two republics by force.
