I looked into the truth of the book about 6 or 8 years ago. Animal Mother was a real person who survived Vietnam and became a Drill Instructor.

I do purchasing and inventory for a +100 employee factory. EVERYTHING went through the roof. I got the numbers that prove it. I add almost 30% from order to order on my P/O's. Some things have tripled in price in 2 years.
Inflation numbers are 101% horseshit and now a 1000' roll of brown paper towels for a bathroom is 700' and 50% more monies. They hid a lot of inflation in making everything smaller.
