The Khazarians were known as 'name stealers'. Today we might call them imposters and identity thieves. Back in the day there were no IDs or blood or DNA tests. If you were an obstacle or otherwise important to them, they would simply eliminate you and your family then become you for purposes of trade, regulation, taxation, or ownership.
