Correct. It is impossible for a created "thing" to become conscious. Doesn't matter how much quantum algorithmic ju-ju you throw at a machine, that hunk of rock ain't coming to life.
I remain unconvinced that Turing test is a reliable indicator. Machines can (or presumably will) be programmed to simulate any and all human behavior. Keyword simulate, because a machine will never be able to perceive beauty in a sunrise.
