They never thought she would lose.

HRC had a private email server in her basement on which she conducted official, classified government business in secrecy and impunity.

The FBI investigated this “matter” and:

Did not impanel a grand jury.

Issued no subpoenas.

Granted immunity to key witnesses.

Interrogated no one under oath.

Produced zero recordings or transcripts.

Targets of the investigation that were granted immunity failed to turn over evidence or intentionally destroyed evidence. The FBI allowed witnesses to get their stories straight by allowing them to sit in while they interviewed HRC.

Comey justified his actions by saying that “you can often do things faster with informal agreements.” Not everyone agreed with him. On October 30, 2016 in an interview given to Lou Dobbs, then Senator Jeff Sessions summed the investigation up this way,

“I am uncomfortable the way the investigation was conducted. I think it should have used a grand jury and people who were given immunity should have been taken before the grand jury and said ‘you have immunity, you tell us everything under oath’ and you grill them because they will be protective of the people they like and they work with so you have to grill them. People will surprise you how sometimes they will spin the beans when they are under oath like that. So I think this was not the kind of investigation that was likely to get to the bottom of it.”

They never thought she would lose and they never imagined that Senator Sessions would become Attorney General and in a position to fire Comey for actions that will soon be labeled as criminal by the FBI/DOJ Inspector General, Michael Horowitz. They never thought Sessions would be in a position to appoint Federal Attorney John Huber to not only reopen the HRC email investigation but to prosecute the law enforcement officials that betrayed their oath of office.

This investigation has taken a long time. Much longer than many of us that witnessed Comey’s fix and cover up operation would have liked, but not all government officials are willing to sacrifice justice for expediency and clearly Sessions and Horowitz are two great examples. Horowitz has made the final draft of his investigation available to his targets so that they can comment and so their comments become a part of the public record. In the next few days or weeks, he will make his report public, testify to Congress and hand it off to Huber for him to conduct the criminal investigation.

In some situations, incremental progress is better than delayed perfection. This is not one of those cases, but the finish line is within sight. Grab some popcorn and prepare to enjoy the show. It’s going to be a good one because they never thought she would lose.
