Veteran civil rights lawyer Michael Sussman has argued more than 20 cases before U.S. Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor, and if there’s one thing he’s learned, it’s this:

“Is she someone who will be reliably on the liberal side of a case? No,” he said Tuesday morning, minutes after President Barack Obama announced his nomination of Sotomayor.
