Usually a spontaneous abortion happens when there is something wrong with the pregnancy. It is nature's way.

I had a cat who was pregnant with 3 kittens and they all died inside of her before they were born. I brought her to the vet and the vet had to remove the dead kittens in order to save the cat's life.
