LIVE: DHS Secretary Mayorkas Testifies In Senate
Senator Paul: Do you think the Steele dossier included Russian disinformation?
Mayorkas: That's not a question I'm equipped to answer.
Mayorkas: We [DHS] become involved when disinformation poses a threat to the security of our country.
Paul to Mayorkas: I think you've got no idea what disinformation is, and I don't think the government is capable of it. Do you know who the greatest propagator of disinformation in the history of the world is? The U.S. Government. Are you familiar with McNamara, the Pentagon Papers? Are you familiar with George W. Bush and the weapons of mass destruction? Are you familiar with Iran Contra?
Lankford says it took eight months to get answers to questions he submitted in writing to the DHS. Some were yes/no.
Reporter: Does the White House explicitly condemn this leak [Supreme Court]?
Psaki: I don't think we have a particular view on that, other than to say that we certainly note the unprecedented nature of it.
Reporters want to know what Biden can do if the Supreme Court decides to strike down Roe. kek
Psaki says it's been 'several days' [won't say how many] since Blinken was with Biden; claims there was no 'close contact'.
[Biden has been near many people recently 'testing positive']
Psaki: [MAGA] is at war with Mickey Mouse.
Reporter: Does the president think the leaker [Supreme Court] should be punished?
Psaki: That's up for the Department of Justice, and others to determine…what is most important to people across the country…not the leak, but the fact that women's health care is at risk for millions of people across the country.
Psaki: The Russians have already lost, by their definition. They have not taken over Ukraine. President Putin will not be marching down the streets of Kiev. They will not own the territorial integrity and sovereignty of this country. They have not divided NATO.
Portman: Can you tell the committee if any of these 42 individuals on the terrorist watch list were actually released into the United States?
Mayorkas: Those individuals…I would like to provide information…in a classified setting.
Portman: So you can't tell us today whether any of them were released into the United States?
Mayorkas: Some of them very well might have been 'U.S. persons'.
Lankford just said in the hearing that he was told by the Border Patrol the last time he visited the border, that they had detained individuals wearing camouflage and claiming to be in the Nicaraguan Military. Within 24 hours they were released into the United States.
Hawley, [quoting Jankowicz from 2020] "The president's [Trump] supporters in congress are homegrown purveyors of disinformation." Does this sound like somebody who is neutral to you?
Mayorkas: Um..senator…um….lemme share with you that I am not focused on her past comments.
Hawley: Wait a minute- why in the world would you not be focused on her past comments?
Mayorkas: Because I am focused on the mission upon us, and ahead of us.
Hawley: You hired her for this job and you've not looked ar her record and you're not concerned about it?
Mayorkas: That's not what I said…I am focused on the mission ahead, and accomplishing that mission.
