Vermillion is red though.
In caked form it's orange?
but in a dye it gives an red shade.
Maybe monitor is mis-calibrated?
anyway, the name is given to more than one shade

Older definition says it's Red.
Yet hard to say what "Red" was 400 years ago. ?
Merriam says it's not one color; maybe because no one gets the dye from the insects anymore?
Also, different treatments, different batches would show different shades.
Some say orange was called "red" at one time; so it's hard to say.
People hadn't classified "orange" as different from red at one point?
