Man caught by security at Reagan National Airport with 23 weapons

A man was apprehended at Reagan National Airport outside of Washington, D.C., and issued a citation after TSA agents found a stash of 23 weapons in his carry-on bag. The items included nine disposable scalpels, a knife, a pair of brass knuckles, and a switchblade.

The officers discovered the stash through the security checkpoint's X-ray machine. They then searched the bag and confiscated the weapons.

"When passengers have prohibited items among their carry-on items, it slows down the screening process," said TSA's Director of Federal Security John Busch. "Travelers play a role in the efficiency of checkpoint screening by knowing what should and should not be packed in a carry-on bag."

In a press release, the agency wrote, "TSA would have had no issue had all 23 of these items been packed in a checked bag, but passengers certainly cannot carry these types of weapons into the cabin of an aircraft."

Busch also said travelers can take full advantage of the myTSA app, or ask the agency a question on social media to check whether the item they want to pack is permitted.

"Even in the sometimes-chaotic environment of the screening checkpoints, the TSA officers at our airport do an amazing job every day by keeping dangerous items out of the aircraft cabin," he also said. "Its important to acknowledge them and the significance of their mission."
