$50 Million Of Cocaine Found At Nespresso Factory

Employees at a Swiss Nespresso factory were shocked after discovering about a half-ton of cocaine in a shipment of coffee beans delivered to the plant from Brazil.

According to AFP, workers at the Nespresso plant in Romont, in western Switzerland, notified authorities on Monday after discovering mysterious white powder inside mounds of coffee sacks in shipping containers.

Local police seized more than 500 kilos (1,103 pounds) of cocaine from five containers.

The shipment originated from Brazil, police said, adding the seized cocaine was 80% pure and had a street value of $50 million (48 million euros).

"It appears that all of the drugs were destined for the European market," police said.

The Nespresso plant is a subsidiary of the multinational food and drinks processing conglomerate Nestlé. The Romont plant specializes in producing single-serve coffee capsules.

Bloomberg's top commodity expert Javier Blas recently told Joe Weisenthal and Tracy Alloway in an Odd Lots podcast that in physical trading of commodities, such as agricultural, metals, and energy, traders "don't have to disclose anything."

Several years ago, a much larger shipment of cocaine was seized on a containership owned by JP Morgan Chase. U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized 20 tons from the ship, worth an estimated street value of $1.3 billion.

If it's Nestlé or a JP Morgan ship, drug cartels have somehow tapped large supply chains owned by large Western companies to smuggle drugs into the developed world.

“Baby factories” in the Ukraine exposed

Damning reports have emerged of systemic exploitation in Ukrainian surrogacy businesses, with one expert labelling some of the worst clinics “baby factories”.

An Al Jazeera feature article published this week details the harrowing story of several surrogates and clients of the Ukraine’s largest surrogacy company, BioTexCom.

The company, which employs thousands of surrogates and accounts for over half of the surrogate births in the country each year, has been accused of grossly mistreating women and providing surrogates with substandard medical care.

According to Al Jazeera, the BioTexCom offers women generous remuneration (around US$11,000 plus a monthly stipend). Yet it provides “employees” with terrible accommodation during pregnancy, threatens fines if women break strict rules imposed during pregnancy, and fails to provide adequate medical attention through the nine months of child-bearing.

“We were treated like cattle and mocked by doctors”, said one woman who bore a child for a client of BioTexCom in 2017. That particular woman fell seriously ill after giving birth due to a retained placenta — an emergency condition that should be treated by doctors within hours. Yet the placenta was only removed five days later after woman started bleeding heavily and had to be rushed to intensive care.

The owner of BioTexCom, Albert Tochilovsky, was charged earlier this year with human trafficking, document forgery and tax evasion in Ukraine. If convicted, they could face up to 15 years in prison.

The Ukrainian surrogacy market also made the news recently after scores of Spanish couples who had commissioned surrogates in the country were unable to obtain Spanish passports for their newborn children.

Vaccine misinformation has spread like wildfire on social media during the Covid-19 pandemic, with some wrongly claiming that Gates was somehow using vaccines to implant 5G chips into people so that he could track their location.

“That’s so unexpected and almost so bizarre,” Gates said. “Now that I’m back in the physical world … people come up and yell and protest.”

He said it’s “dangerous” when people “cast out” on the key tool that’s being used to save people’s lives and he believes those who own social media platforms have a role to play when it comes to ensuring the truth gets shared effectively.

“When you don’t have the trusted leaders speaking out about vaccines, it’s pretty hard for the platform to work against that,” he admitted. “So I think we have a leadership problem and we have a platform problem.”

“The way that you make those platforms spread truth and not crazy stuff, there’s some real invention required there,” Gates said.

“It’s a huge problem in terms of legitimacy of elections or medical innovations … any sort of collective behavior,” he added.

The fact that information on the efficacy of drugs can move quickly and cheaply should be a blessing to mankind, Gates said, before going on to call the hydroxychloroquine saga “insane.”

“I can’t explain that,” he said. “I don’t think digital is responsible for that obsession with drugs that don’t work.”

Gates said he plans to set up a 3,000-person social media unit to help propagate accurate vaccine information in the future. He stressed that “good messages” need to be carried forward by people of trust in the community, such as political and ethnic leaders.

The Biden administration’s decision to step up aid to Ukraine is paying real-world dividends, providing not only the weapons to battle Russian forces but also the intelligence that’s helped Ukraine kill a stunning number of Russian generals and sink Moscow’s flagship vessel in the Baltic Sea.

While U.S. military and intelligence officials have denied their direct involvement in those deadly strikes, the assistance has been crucial to Ukraine’s recent battlefield successes.

The developments highlight the delicate dance being attempted by the Biden administration and its NATO allies, as they intensify the fight against Russian President Vladimir Putin while being careful not to provoke an escalatory response from a figure who controls the world’s largest nuclear arsenal.

“I think what it says is that the United States is involved in this war in virtually every way except direct fighting against the Russians,” Richard Fontaine, CEO of the Center for a New American Security, said of the intelligence sharing with the Ukrainians.

At the same time, Fontaine criticized U.S. officials for talking to the media about the contributions intelligence sharing has made to Ukraine’s fight, saying that the disclosures help fuel a false Russian narrative about the war being about NATO enlargement and a provocative West.

“By trying to get public credit in the press for helping to kill Russian generals and sink Russian ships, I am afraid that that aids that narrative in a way that is not productive,” Fontaine said.

Ukraine has fought back the Russian assault for 70 days and counting, bolstered by billions of dollars in weaponry from the U.S. and its allies that include light missile launchers, assault drones and, more recently, heavy artillery like Howitzers and tanks.

Biden administration officials have been open that they are sharing battlefield intelligence with the Ukrainians but have stressed that Kyiv is responsible for deciding what it targets and when.

“We have consistently been sharing intelligence that includes information the Ukrainians can use to inform and develop their military response to Russia’s invasion,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki said on March 3.

Funds raised by Jared Kushner from Saudi Arabia will soon be invested directly in Israeli hi-tech firms, the Wall Street Journal reported Saturday in an exclusive report.

Kushner, former U.S. President Donald Trump's top aide and son-in-law, set up private equity fund Affinity Partners after leaving the White House. The firm has raised up to $3 billion – some $2 billion from Saudi Arabia’s sovereign-wealth fund, among the largest sovereign funds in the world.

Kushner’s firm has already selected two Israeli hi-tech firms to invest in, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing “people familiar with the investment plan.”

The investment, the WSJ said, was “the first known instance that the Saudi Public Investment Fund’s cash will be directed to Israel, a sign of the kingdom’s increasing willingness to do business with the country, even though they have no diplomatic relations.”

It is unknown who the two firms are or what sector they are active in.

On Sunday, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said a hangar with weapons and ammunition delivered to Ukraine from the United States and Europe was destroyed at a military airfield near the Ukrainian city of Odessa by Russian high-precision Oniks missiles.

Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine in February, amid intensifying attacks of Kiev's troops against the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR). President Putin stressed that the op was started to stop the eight-year-long war in Donbass, noting that Russia's goal is "demilitarization and denazification".

The LAPD Internet Crimes Against Children task force arrested a Torrence police officer on suspicion of possessing child pornography.

A 23-year-old former Torrance police officer is scheduled to appear in Los Angeles Superior Court on June 3 following his arrest for allegedly possessing child sex abuse material.

Evan Robert Dahl was arrested at 11:15 a.m. Friday at the Torrance Police Station on suspicion of felony possession of the material following a Los Angeles Police Department investigation.

He was released at 3:45 p.m. Friday, police said.

"The city of Torrance and its police department are aware of the troubling allegations leading to Evan Dahl's arrest. Evan Dahl no longer works for the Torrance Police Department," said Sgt. Mark Ponegalek of the Torrance Police Department.

"Chief Jay Hart remains committed to transparency and accountability," the statement added.

The LAPD Internet Crimes Against Children task force learned in March that the unlawful material was uploaded to a social media platform from an unknown address in Torrance, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Investigators then served search warrants at several locations throughout the city, including Dahl's residence, "where evidence was seized," according to the LAPD.

"We have and will continue to cooperate with LAPD's investigation," Ponegalek said. "Because this matter involves an ongoing criminal investigation, we must refer any additional questions to LAPD,"

CDC Investigating 109 Mysterious Hepatitis Cases In Children, Including 5 Deaths

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is investigating more than 100 cases of a mysterious form of hepatitis in children, saying that five have died so far.

Dr. Jay Butler, the CDC’s deputy director of infectious diseases, said during a briefing said the agency is investigating 109 cases of acute hepatitis, or liver inflammation, in 24 U.S. states and Puerto Rico. The cause of the outbreak is not yet clear, he stressed, adding that about half of the children had adenovirus infections, although Butler said the CDC doesn’t know yet if adenovirus is the actual cause.

Approximately 90 percent of the children required hospitalization, Butler said. Five have died so far, and more have required liver transplants, he added in the briefing.

Last month, the CDC issued a nationwide alert after nine acute hepatitis cases were discovered among children in Georgia. Since then, a number of state agencies have reported cases and several deaths.

Several days ago, the CDC issued a report saying that it found no evidence that COVID-19 vaccines caused the outbreak of hepatitis among children. None of the initial children in Abalama, the agency said, received the vaccine.

Meanwhile, other countries have reported similar outbreaks of hepatitis among children. On Friday, the UK Health Security Agency reported that (pdf) the country’s case count had risen to 163, dating back to early January, adding that 11 children have received liver transplants so far.

“Adenovirus remains the most frequently detected potential pathogen. Amongst 163 UK cases, 126 have been tested for adenovirus of which 91 had adenovirus detected,” said the agency.

“Amongst cases the adenovirus has primarily been detected in blood.”

UK officials also ruled out the COVID-19 vaccine as a potential cause.

“There are fewer than five older case-patients recorded as having had a COVID-19 vaccination prior to hepatitis onset,” the report said, adding that most of the impacted children are too young to receive the shot.

“There is no evidence of a link between COVID-19 vaccination and the acute hepatic syndrome.”

Report: FBI, DHS Officials Eye Violent ‘Abortion-Related Extremism’ but Do Nothing

The National Fusion Center Association on Thursday reportedly held a call to strategize about the metastasizing threats of violence after the Supreme Court leak that revealed Roe v. Wade may be overturned.

Those on the call were FBI and DHS officials, among “dozens of intelligence-sharing hubs around the country,” according to Politico. The call focused on how law enforcement might protect the federal judiciary from attacks, “including both the Supreme Court’s nine justices and the hundreds of federal judges around the country — as a potential increasing target of violence.”

The virtual rendezvous reportedly did not result in any determination of actions to be taken against the violence perpetrated by radical left after the Court’s leak. The call did not specifically focus on the radical left extremism at all. Instead, the focus was to “maximize information-sharing on the topic among law enforcement agencies around the country, hoping to identify threat trends in real-time.”

Since the Supreme Court leak, attacks have been carried out against the pro-life community by radicals. Antifa reportedly attacked a pregnancy center in Portland and allegedly wrote “Fuck CPCs” (Crisis Pregnancy Center) and “bashed the windows” of the facility.

On Wednesday, a church in Denver, Colorado, was vandalized “with smashed windows and spray-painted pro-abortion messages,” the Washington Times reported. The vandals reportedly desecrated the church with far-left slogans, like “my body, my choice” and “keep your religion off our bodies.” They also broke several church windows.

Another far-left group, dubbed “Ruth Sent Us,” has published the justices’ supposed home addresses online for the radical protestors to locate. The group has also reportedly threatened to storm churches on Mother’s Day in protest. The protests may occur in Washington, DC.

The left’s political violence follows the 2020 destruction, which cost the nation $1 billion to $2 billion, according to Axios. The cost of the violence exceeded that of any previous social unrest in the nation’s history.

Actor and director Fred Savage has been terminated from “The Wonder Years” reboot on ABC, a spokesman from 20th Television has confirmed.

Savage was dismissed from the series following an investigation into unspecified “allegations of inappropriate conduct,” the company spokesman told CNN in an email.

“Recently, we were made aware of allegations of inappropriate conduct by Fred Savage, and as is policy, an investigation was launched,” 20th Television said in a statement. “Upon its completion, the decision was made to terminate his employment as an executive producer and director of ‘The Wonder Years’.”

Savage, who starred in the show’s original series when it aired in the late 1980s, served as an executive producer and director for the show’s revival, according to ABC.

20th Television is a subsidiary of Disney Television Studios and produces the series, ABC said.

Savage did not respond to CNN’s request for comment.

The revival follows a Black middle-class family in 1960s Montgomery, Alabama, and first aired in September of 2021, according to ABC.

Facebook aware of mass pages closure despite saying it was ‘inadvertent’

The report points the finger at Facebook for shutting down the pages of hospitals, government agencies and charities.

A bombshell report has revealed that Facebook was aware of its impact when it ‘inadvertently’ closed pages of Australian hospitals, emergency services and charities in 2021.

In February last year, Facebook blocked news websites in Australia in response to potential legislation that would make platforms pay publishers for content. When the blackout occurred, hundreds of other pages that were not news outlets were also hamstrung.

At the time of the chaos, Facebook said the closure of pages related to the Australian government, hospitals and charities was “inadvertent”.

However, a report from the Wall Street Journal has revealed that the blackout was hailed as a strategic masterstroke.

“Facebook documents and testimony filed to US and Australian authorities by whistleblowers allege that the social-media giant deliberately created an overly broad and sloppy process to take down pages – allowing swathes of the Australian government and health services to be caught in its web just as the country was launching Covid vaccinations,” the story published on May 6 read.

The publication alleges, according to whistleblowers and documents, the move to close these other pages was to exert maximum negotiating pressure over the Australian parliament. It was about to vote on the world’s first law that would require platforms such as Google and Facebook to pay news outlets for content.

“Despite saying it was targeting only news outlets, the company deployed an algorithm for deciding what pages to take down that it knew was certain to affect more than publishers, according to the documents and people familiar with the matter,” the report added.

Authorities who managed these Facebook pages were not told about the block in advance or provided a system of appeal once they were barred from using the platform.

Facebook has denied the moves were a negotiating tactic.
