Have we seriously not had laser weapons yet? They use them for removing pubes, getting rid of wrinkles…and apparently in “secret space projects” but we are only just now figuring out how to attach them to boats, here on earth? Why wouldn’t you play with laser weaponry right here on the usual plane, instead of adding complications by tinkering with them way up near the firmament - especially when these asshats find it tricky to get a big telescope up there, or drop in on the moon again, what with those pesky Van Allen Belts.
