Also, there are some that try but just can't make it work. Either their nipples are too short and the baby can't latch on or the baby's pallet is too small/short so the baby latches on but then isn't able to maintain it. I know people that had this problem. They were adamant about breastfeeding, read many books on it, even swore they would never use baby formula, but in the end had to because their baby was actually losing weight in the first week of life because they were not getting the nutrition they needed.
