Some of the worst corruption within LE is in TX - Sabine County being one of the worst.

Mathew Edgar, from a prominent local family, murdered his ex-girlfriend, Livye Lewis, by shooting her in the neck as she sat in her car. He was arrested and given a $50,000 bond. He was tried and convicted, and sentenced, absentia, to 99 yrs. Why absentia? Because the day before he was found guilty, he left the courthouse whistling, and his mother smiling. That night, his ankle monitor went dead and for some "strange reason" (probably accidentally on purpose) the law, who was supposed to be monitoring him, did not check on why his bracelet went dead. He, nor his family, showed up for court the next day. His family gave LE all kinds of conflicting information regarding his whereabouts - sending multiple agencies on a wild goose chase, spanning several counties, the day of his disappearance.

He has not been seen since. His family has not been charged with anything.

And then there's the little matter of the game warden's house which was burnt to the ground via arson, on the very same week that he happened to have cited Mathew Edgar for illegal hunting years ago. Can read that story in Texas Tribune.
