BABY FORMULA SHORTAGE - CRISIS OR OPPORTUNITY

A few years back, in 2018, Ecuador attempted to sponsor a common-sense resolution in the U.N. centered around unhealthy reliance on baby formula, and the documented harmful effects it can have on children.

It was expected to have widespread global support.

Instead, the U.S. threatened Ecuador and denied the legislation a foothold, choosing instead to protect business interests of manufacturers like Abbott Laboratories, who make billions off the sales globally in 160 different countries.

It was the lone voice of dissent.

The result was that multiple countries, afraid of economic reprisal, were unable to support the resolution.

It was only thanks to Russia, who in defiance of US threats, put forward the measurement designed to save infant lives, that the rest of the world has not been crippled by the current US supply line failures.

Pittsburgh Public Schools to require masks again, starting Friday

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Public Schools are requiring masks again on Friday, the district announced late Thursday night.

According to a Facebook post, the change is in response to COVID-19 infection levels rising in Allegheny County. The county is now at a medium community level.

All students, employees, and visitors will be required to wear a mask inside Pittsburgh Public Schools facilities beginning May 13.

Students and staff had a choice as to whether or not wear masks for two weeks before the reinforced mandate.

CAPA and Colfax, two Pittsburgh Public Schools, were closed this week due to COVID-19 case numbers.

It’s not clear if the district will reevaluate this decision at any point.
