Are Four Blood Moons a Sign of End Times?

What is a blood moon? What does the Bible say about them? And, how do recent theories surrounding four blood moons fit with end times signs mentioned in the Bible? A full lunar eclipse can make the moon look orange or red. That's where the term "blood moon" comes from.

"Lunar eclipses occur when Earth's shadow blocks the sun’s light, which otherwise reflects off the moon…The red moon is possible because while the moon is in total shadow, some light from the sun passes through Earth's atmosphere and is bent toward the moon. While other colors in the spectrum are blocked and scattered by Earth’s atmosphere, red light tends to make it through easier."

Blood Moons and Past Events

Four blood moons (a tetrad) occur in 2014-2015, that is, four full lunar eclipses without partial eclipses in between. In 2014 and 2015, blood moons fall on the first day of the Jewish feast of Passover and the first day of Sukkot, or the Feast of Tabernacles.

This rare lunar event in light of Scripture is the topic of two recent books: Four Blood Moons: Something Is About to Change by John Hagee, and Blood Moons: Decoding the Imminent Heavenly Signs by Mark Biltz and Joseph Farah. Biltz began teaching on blood moons in 2008. Hagee's book came out in 2013, and Biltz released his book in March 2014.

Mark Biltz went to NASA's website and compared the dates of past blood moons to Jewish holy days and events in world history. He found four blood moons in a row occurred near the time of the 1492 Alhambra Decree expelling 200,000 Jews from Spain during the Spanish Inquisition, near the founding of the state of Israel in 1948, and near the Six-Day War near Israel in 1967.

Western banks eyeing asset swaps to exit Russia – media

UniCredit and Citigroup are reportedly trying to avoid bulky write-downs related to quitting Russia over Ukraine

In an attempt to escape hefty write-downs on operations in Russia due to their exit from the sanction-hit country, UniCredit and Citigroup are exploring the possibility of swapping assets with Russian banks, FT reports, citing people with knowledge of the matter.

The plan comes amid a mass exodus of foreign lenders from Russia due to Western sanctions imposed on the nation over its military operation in Ukraine. According to estimates revealed last week,European banks took a hit of nearly $10 billionwriting down assets and setting aside cash to protect themselves against the expected economic ramifications of anti-Russia sanctions.

UniCredit is discussing the sale of its Russian business to several financial institutions that haven’t been sanctioned by the West, people briefed on the talks told the media.

The Italian lender, which could lose €5.3 billion ($5.5 billion) due to its exit, reportedly rejected the offer by Interros group, the investment business owned by Vladimir Potanin, one of Russia’s richest men who has not been included on the sanctions list.

Interros has already acquired several businesses, including Rosbank, a subsidiary of French Societe Generale, as well as a 35% stake in highly rated fintech firm TCS from Russian businessman Oleg Tinkov.

Meanwhile, Citigroup is holding “multiple conversations” with medium-sized Russian banks to sell its consumer operations and part of its commercial undertakings in the country, a person familiar with the matter said. A sale to a non-sanctioned entity, rather than an asset swap, is reportedly preferable for American multinational banking groups.

UK waged 'black propaganda' campaign against USSR, China – declassified docs

London for decades sought to drive a wedge between Moscow, Beijing, the Arab world and Africa through fake news, a researcher claims

A secretive unit within the British Foreign Office waged a "black propaganda" campaign against the USSR and China from the 1950s to the 1970s to undermine their global influence, the Guardian has reported, citing a researcher who studied a trove of recently declassified intelligence documents. London did not shy away from stirring up anti-Semitism, racism and Islamist sentiment to achieve its goals, the academic claims.

“These releases are among the most important of the past two decades. It's very clear now that the UK engaged in more black propaganda than historians assume and these efforts were more systemic, ambitious and offensive,” Rory Cormac, a professor of international relations at Nottingham University, told the Guardian.

According to the newspaper, the documents reveal “hundreds of extensive and costly operations” conducted by the Information Research Department (IRD) – a covert unit initially established by the post-WWII Labour government to counter Communist propaganda.The unit “went far beyond merely exposing Soviet disinformation,” Cormac has said, adding that the UK "definitely intended to deceive audiences in order to get the message across."

The IRD had a separate highly secretive Special Editorial Unit responsible for so-called “black propaganda,” a special type of fake news designed to look as if it’s produced by a nation or organization that the actual creator wants to discredit.

Some of the “reports” sent to Western governments and media included analysis supposedly coming from independent institutions, which were secretly run by the IRD, and warned Western nations about alleged “Soviet subversion.” The British unit also forged at least 11 reports supposedly released by Soviet state-run news agencies, according to the Guardian.

London particularly sought to drive a wedge between Moscow and its allies in the Arab world by both producing fake news discrediting the Soviet Union in the eyes of Arabs, and stirring up Islamist sentiment among them, the paper said. One such report, presented as coming from the USSR, blasted Soviet military aid to Egypt during the 1967 Six-Day War with Israel as a “waste.” The British operatives also forged pro-Islamist literature, including that of the Muslim Brotherhood – a group that had significant influence in the Arab world at that time….

The British unit reportedly did not shy away from stirring up anti-Semitic sentiment as well. One of its leaflets incited Egyptians to attack Israel by asking them: “why don't they direct their armies against the Jews?”

The IRD was similarly active in Africa, where it repeatedly sought to convey an image of the Soviet Union seeing Africans as uncivilized….

Documents declassified back in 2021 and seen by the Guardian also showed that the British propaganda campaign had had a role in the mass slaughter of Communists in Indonesia in the 1960s. Between 500,000 and three million supporters of the Communist Party were killed at that time, according to various estimates.

These efforts had the full support of several consecutive British governments, according to Cormac. In 1964, the Conservative Prime Minister, Alec Douglas-Home, ordered the IRD to target Ghana over its supposed leanings to Moscow. Months later, the Labour Foreign Secretary, Patrick Gordon Walker, called on the unit to produce black propaganda “from time to time” and particularly stir up racial tensions between the Africans and Chinese.

Although the unit was officially disbanded in 1977, similar efforts allegedly continued for almost another decade, the Guardian says. Now, the British government is still engaged in an “information war,” according to Cormac.

In February, just days before the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss revealed that the UK was creating a new unit to combat “disinformation” from Moscow. In March, the Telegraph reported that the unit dubbed the Government Information Cell was reaching Russian social media to disseminate London’s view on the conflict in Ukraine.

“Liz Truss has a ‘government information cell,’ and defense intelligence sends out daily tweets to ‘pre-but’ Russian plots and gain the upper hand in the information war, but for much of the cold war the UK used far more devious means," the researcher said, adding that the declassified papers are “particularly significant as a precursor to more modern efforts of putting intelligence into the public domain.”

Serbian president doubles down on Russian sanctions

Belgrade will stick to its policy of not imposing restrictions on Moscow, Aleksandar Vucic vows

Despite suffering “enormous damage,” Belgrade will fight to maintain its policy of not joining the drastic international sanctions introduced against Moscow over the conflict in Ukraine, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has said.

“We've lasted eighty days” without restricting Russia and "the price we pay is huge," Vucic told local broadcaster Prva on Sunday. Serbia lacks access to the capital market and can't service its foreign loans, which affects the well-being of the population, he complained.

"They say: 'Vucic is announcing the introduction of Russian sanctions.' No, we will fight as long as we can. We suffered enormous damage, but we aren't looking for 'a thank you'," the president insisted.

Serbia is acting this way because it is "a sovereign and independent country" that is well aware of "how unfair and unnecessary" the sanctions are, he said.

The issue of restrictions against Moscow is also closely linked to the supply of Russian gas and oil, on which Serbia is entirely dependent, Vucic said, expressing hope that Belgrade will be able to agree a "good price" on energy at the upcoming talks between the sides.

Last month, the Serbian president claimed that he was blackmailed into placing restrictions on his country's ally Russia, with Belgrade being threatened with energy sanctions of its own if it refused.

The US, the EU and some other countries have slapped numerous sanctions on Moscow after it launched its military operation in Ukraine in late February. The restrictions saw the foreign assets of the Russian Central Bank and various other entities and individuals being frozen, effectively cutting Russia off from the dollar- and euro-dominated money markets, and also saw a wide array of major international firms stopping doing business with the country. These and other moves have made Russia the most sanctioned country in the world.
