It looks like a nato spec platform for the 5.56 calls for 1:7 twist which may help explain the slower velocity over a .223 with a 1:8 or 1:9 twist. The claim for reason of 1:7 ratio for 5.56 is because that is the optimal ratio for tracer rounds. I can’t see that being the only reason for the desired rifling ratio and will look more into the stopping power of 1:7 vs 1:9.
