Seven people were shot overnight across multiple locations around the city of Winston-Salem in North Carolina in a series of connected attacks, according to investigators.
The shootings happened on Sunday night (May 15) at the end of a bloody weekend elsewhere in America too. All seven victims in North Carolina were wounded, but reports suggest the injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
Sources from Winston-Salem Police Department said the incidents are not considered to be random acts of violence, according to local news station WSCO. Instead, the shootings are believed to be part of a string of linked attacks.

The violence broke out just before 7:50 p.m. when officers were called to reports of gunfire near Fairview Park on the 900 block of Bethlehem Lane, Fox 8 reported.
Investigators discovered more than 50 shell casings at the scene, then found two victims with gunshot wounds on U.S. 52, south of the exit for 25th Street and 28th Street. A further four victims were found on the 2000 block of 25th Street, while a seventh victim, also injured in the 25th Street shooting, was later found already receiving treatment at a local hospital, the station added.
The violence across the city came at the tail end of a weekend marked by a string of mass shootings in the U.S.
Some 21 people were shot in three separate gun attacks near an entertainment district where thousands had gathered for an NBA game in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Friday night.
The next day, 13 victims were shot, 10 of them killed, in a supermarket in Buffalo, New York. Teenager Payton Gendron, 18, has been accused of murder, with police describing the atrocity on Saturday as "racially motivated violent extremism."
On Sunday, two people were killed and three others were injured when gunfire erupted at a flea market at around 1:00 p.m. in Harris County in Houston, Texas.
Just half an hour later, across the country, one person was killed and four others were critically injured in a shooting at a church in Laguna Woods, California. Parishioners of the Irvine Taiwanese Presbyterian Church managed to overpower the gunman and hog-tie him before police arrived.
Tweeting a Fox 8 news report about the Winston-Salem shootings, Anthony York— a senior communications adviser for California Governor Gavin Newsom — wrote: "Buffalo, Milwaukee, Laguna Woods, Harris County, Winston-Salem. A bloody, bloody weekend in America. I'm so sick of this sh*t."
