Sen. Rand Paul: Congress Has to Borrow from China to Send $40 Billion in Aid to Ukraine

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) told Breitbart News Daily that America has to borrow the money to send $40 billion in aid to Ukraine.

Breitbart News Daily host Alex Marlow spoke with Paul as the Senate remains poised to pass legislation that would send $40 billion in military and economic aid to Ukraine while Americans grapple with inflation and food shortages. Paul has “single handedly” worked to hold up the Ukraine package, contending that the package needs an inspector general to ensure that the billions of dollars are spent wisely.

Paul said that America would have to continue borrowing from China to appropriate the proposed Ukraine aid package.

“I think it’s important to know that we don’t have any money to send, we have to borrow money from China to send it to Ukraine. And I think most people kind of get that, and many Republicans will say that when it’s a new social program, but if it’s military aid to a country, they’re like we can borrow that, that’s a justified borrowing,” Paul explained to Marlow.

Paul served as one of the 11 Senate Republicans to vote against advancing the Ukraine aid package, which included Sens. Hawley, Mike Crapo (R-ID), Bill Hagerty (R-TN), Mike Braun (R-IN), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), John Boozman (R-AR), Roger Marshall (R-KS), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), and Tommy Tuberville (R-AL).

The Ukraine aid procedural vote strikes a contrast between establishment Republican views on foreign policy, which favor more activist intervention abroad, and populist senators such as Paul, who believe that America should not engage in endless wars and conflict abroad.

Paul said that Republicans’ contribution to America’s deficit undermines their argument that President Joe Biden is solely responsible for the rampant inflation under his administration.

The Kentucky senator said, “The problem is that it all leads to inflation, so it kind of hurts the Republican argument that Biden’s spending and Biden’s debt leads to inflation, except for when it’s bipartisan spending and that doesn’t really count.”

Republicans added over $100 billion in new debt with Democrats in providing direct subsidies to semiconductor companies and also by increasing the National Science Foundation, one of the most wasteful organizations in Washington.

Paul lamented in his interview with Breitbart News Daily that many Republicans are now lining up to grant $48 billion in coronavirus relief to restaurants, even though most coronavirus lockdowns have been over for at least a year.

The Kentucky senator noted that many Republicans and Democrats liked the idea of having an inspector general have oversight on the tens of billions of Ukraine aid; however, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) pushed senators away from Paul’s proposal because the inspector general would be “ruthless” with the spending.

Paul said that it is a good idea to have a “zealous guardian” of the taxpayers’ money.

Marlow asked why so many Republicans, even though they sound like Paul in terms of rhetoric, often vote to borrow from China to send money to Ukraine.

Paul said the “bipartisan consensus” is to have Republicans vote for increased military spending, and Democrats boost social welfare spending.

“This is the bipartisan consensus right now on Ukraine. Republican and Democrat leadership are exactly the same. So they get together. But in order to get together to get this, it’s guns and butter, you look at the $40 billion, it’s a lot of guns, but in order to get the gun they had to give out a lot of butter and so there’s a lot of spending going to European countries for food throughout the world,” Paul said.

He added, “What we’ve done is given away the farm to make us weaker.”

Azov commander boasts about gruesome photos of executed civilians

Ukrainian neo-Nazi gloats over brutally killed opposition activists, wishes their fate on all “traitors”

A Ukrainian officer who at one point commanded the notorious neo-Nazi Azov regiment has gloated on social media over graphic photos of dead members of an opposition party. The activists “disappeared” from the Ukrainian-held city of Severodonetsk in early March and appear to have been extrajudicially executed, with Maksim Zhorin implying such a fate awaits all “traitors.”

“This is what the ‘Patriots for Life’ from Severodonetsk look like now,” Zhorin said in a now-deleted Telegram post on Wednesday. “They disappeared on March 7, and now their new photos have appeared. They look like that,” he added with a smirking-face emoji.

“I would not be surprised if the investigation finds out that they shot themselves in the head – when they realized how stupid they were when they went to cooperate with [Ilya] Kiva,” he added, in a reference to the Ukrainian MP who fled to Russia in January.

Prosecutors in Kiev had charged Kiva, an outspoken critic of President Volodymyr Zelensky, with treason on March 6, the day before the activists went missing. He had fled the country after being kicked out by his party, “Opposition Platform — For Life.”

That did not save the party, and almost a dozen others, from getting temporarily banned by Zelensky on March 20. A law allowing for permanent bans was adopted on May 14.

Zhorin’s post showed the badly disfigured faces of three men and a woman, in body bags. They appear to have been extrajudicially executed in a cruel manner, said the Telegram channel “Witch Hunt,” which first brought attention to the Azov leader’s post.

Ukraine is “not even medieval, it is ISIS,” the channel added, in a reference to Islamic State (IS) terrorist group, known for its savage beheadings of prisoners.

Severodonetsk became the seat of Ukraine’s military administration for the disputed Lugansk region in the east of the country. It is a major stronghold of troops loyal to Kiev and is currently the site of heavy fighting with Russian troops, as well as Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics’ forces.

Zhorin isn’t just any member of Azov, a notorious Ukrainian militia that adopted Nazi iconography. He joined them in 2014, at the very start of the turmoil in Ukraine, and actually commanded the unit from August 2016 to September 2017, though his rank in the National Guard of Ukraine is only first lieutenant.

His official biography says Zhorin took part in the taking of Mariupol and Marinka and survived the 2014 defeat at Ilovaisk. In October 2017, he set up the Kharkov regional branch of Azov’s political wing, the National Corps, and became a member of the party’s central committee in January 2020.

‘I’m wondering when we voted to go to war?’ – US Congressman

Chip Roy accused his fellow lawmakers of waging a “proxy war” so they can “look all fancy with our blue and yellow ribbons”

Congressman Chip Roy (R-Texas) has condemned House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer for stating that the US is “at war,” presumably with Russia. Roy hammered Democrats and Republicans alike for deepening America’s involvement in the Ukraine conflict in order to “feel good about ourselves.”

In a video clip posted by Roy’s press office on Wednesday, the Texas Republican took aim at Hoyer for declaring on Friday that the US is “at war,” and that critics of the Democratic Party should “focus on the enemy” instead of rising energy costs at home.

“When I hear the majority leader of the other party say ‘a time of war’…I’m wondering when we voted to go to war?” Roy said.

“If we're gonna have a proxy war, and we're gonna give $40 billion to Ukraine, because we want to look all fancy with our blue and yellow ribbons and feel good about ourselves, maybe we should actually have a debate in this chamber,” he continued.

Biden’s Labor Chief Urges Congress to Import More Foreign Workers

The nation’s Democratic labor secretary is urging Republicans and Democrats to import more workers for jobs throughout the U.S. economy, even as millions of Americans remain on the sidelines of the U.S. economy.

“Go talk to businesses in your communities, privately, and ask them what they want: Every single company is going to say we need immigration reform,” Labor Secretary Marty Walsh told the House Appropriations subcommittee on May 17, adding:

Big companies need it, small companies need it, people need it. We need more workers in this country. We’re a country that that constantly depends on immigrant workers. We always have. My parents were two of those workers that came to this country. We’re a country that if we want to continue to move forward as a country, we need to figure out some immigration laws and get some reform.

“It’s a complete betrayal of the people that he is supposed to be prioritizing in in that position,” responded Rob Law, regulatory policy chief at the Center for Immigration Studies. He added:

To be a loyal member of the Democrat Party means that you must wholeheartedly endorse amnesty and large-scale immigration, and that the labor concerns of any Americans are are secondary if they are even on on your [legal] radar.

In sharp contrast, President Donald Trump’s last labor secretary implemented plans to prevent blue-collar and white-collar Americans from being replaced by imported visa workers. But the pro-worker reforms adopted by Eugene Scalia were quickly discarded by Biden’s deputies in 2021. Those deputies are also hiding the companies that hire foreign graduates via the open-ended Optional Practical Training program.

Since about 2012, unions have largely abandoned their public efforts to prevent foreign workers from crossing the line into the union of 50 states. Still, there is much closed-door opposition to labor migration in the Democratic Party.

Biden’s workforce of legal, illegal, and quasi-legal migrants is replacing millions of working-age Americans who have dropped out of the labor force since 2000.

At least two million migrants have arrived since January 2020 by legal and illegal routes. Their inflow is helping to reinflate the post-1900 Cheap Labor Bubble and to lower wages by roughly three percent since Biden’s inauguration.

Thousands of Rabbis slam Tlaib resolution as 'openly antisemitic,' 'an indelible stain on Congress'

Tlaib's resolution commemorates the "catastrophe" that occurred during the founding of Israel

Thousands of rabbis condemned a resolution Palestinian Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) introduced calling for the commemoration of "the Nakba," translated from Arabic as "the catastrophe," which activists say happened with Israel's founding.

Tlaib's resolution is "openly antisemitic" and "an indelible stain on Congress," the Coalition for Jewish Values (CJV), a group representing more than 2,000 rabbis, wrote in a press release.

"Arab armies responded to Israel’s founding with a call for genocide," CJV Israel Regional Vice President Rabbi Steven Pruzansky said, "and have continued with repeated wars and horrific acts of terrorism for the sole purpose of killing Jews and destroying the world’s only Jewish state. They proclaimed their intent in 1948 as a 'momentous massacre,' to kill all Jews in Israel as Hitler did in Germany, and what they call a 'Nakba' is that they fell 99% short of that obscene goal."

Nakba Day is observed on May 15, one day after Israel declared independence.

"The Israeli apartheid government’s ongoing ethnic cleansing seeks to degrade Palestinian humanity and break the will of the people to be free," Tlaib said in a press release.

Israel has rejected these accusations. Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Gilad Erdan said they promote "hate, incitement, violence, and terror," during an interview with The Associated Press. He also claimed rights groups promoting the claims are launching "a jihad war against the only vibrant democracy in the Middle East."

CJV noted Tlaib has a "history of antisemitic remarks" in Congress.

The organization's President Rabbi Yoel Schonfeld said "that the real catastrophe is that we have reached the point that this was introduced.

"This indelible stain on Congress is a direct result of the failure of its leaders to act against antisemitism as it festered over the past three years, and it is long overdue for the Speaker of the House of Representatives to not merely issue platitudes about antisemitism, but to lead the House in censuring those who voice it," he concluded.

Tesla removed from S&P 500 ESG Index over autopilot and racial discrimination claims

S&P Dow Jones Indices has removed electric carmaker Tesla Inc from its widely-followed S&P 500 ESG Index, citing issues including racial discrimination claims against the company and its handling of a government investigation after crashes linked to its autopilot vehicles.

S&P Dow Jones Indices removed the electric carmaker from the S&P 500 ESG index on May 2, the company announced in a blog post on Wednesday, according to the Daily Mail.

It appears the S&P 500® ESG Index has undergone its fourth annual rebalance. This was explained in the blog post, “The (Re)Balancing Act of the S&P 500 ESG Index,”

The “ESG” stands for environmental, social, and governance, criteria used by ‘socially conscious’ investors when deciding where to put their money, according to Investopedia.

Keep in mind that Tesla is still listed on the regular S&P 500 index, which measures the largest companies in the US by market capitalization. However, the index provider cited various issues at Tesla that significantly lowered its ESG score, including racial discrimination claims, poor working conditions, and its handling of a government investigation after crashes linked to its self-driving cars.

Reuters points out that internal issues and a lack of disclosures relative to industry peers should raise concerns for investors looking to judge the company across environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria.

And while a representative from the electric car company did not immediately respond to the story, Elen Musk rook to Twitter on Wednesday, saying that “ESG is a scam. It has been weaponized by phony social justice warriors.”

The removal of Tesla was among a group of changes made to the S&P 500 ESG Index dating from April 22, according to the announcement. Among the additions to the index at the same time was Twitter Inc, the social media platform which Musk has an agreement to purchase.

At the same time, Tesla’s stock has fallen by nearly 29 percent in the past month, after founder and CEO Elon Musk announced plans to buy Twitter for $44 billion.

NSW's voluntary assisted dying laws pass after marathon debate in parliament

Voluntary assisted dying has been made legal in New South Wales.

The legislation passed the Lower House of parliament, after a vote to accept the amendments from the Upper House.

The Upper House spent 10 hours debating amendments before a final vote of support 23 to 15.

All MPs were given a conscience vote.

MPs debated nearly 100 amendments on Wednesday in a sitting that lasted until midnight.

The government requested for the house to sit past its mandated 12am shutdown, but Robert Borsak, from the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party — who is also an opponent of the bill — objected.

The majority of the amendments were voted down during the debate, including the push to give aged and residential homes the power to block voluntary assisted dying taking place in their facilities.

Debate resumed this morning before the bill passed through the Legislative Council about midday.

It was then approved by the lower house just before 1pm.

NSW is the last state to legalise voluntary assisted dying.
