Just like the Air force was a division of the Army before it was decided that it deserved to be its own thing, so it is with Space Force.
Space Force has been a sub division of the Air Force for decades under the name "Air Force Space Command." It finally got too big and its mission so divorced from what the Air Force does they decided to make it its own branch.
