the3 day kansas wheat tour has just finished

several articles at kswheat.com

some highlights

this years wheat crop is going to be bad

may 15, 2022 kansas winter wheat condition

17% very poor

24% poor

35% fair

22% good

2% excellent

yield estimate of 39.7 bushels per acre, down from 59 last year

93 million fewer bushels this year just from kansas

nebraska, colorado and oklahoma reporting less also

old saying is the wheat crop is lost 5 times before harvest

but not looking good this year

traveled around one county in western kansas this week myself

most wheat around a foot tall

(many wheat heads will be to close to the ground to be cut by the combine)

the tallest field was knee high

could still row many from the road

(if you can see the rows the wheat is thin and weeds can take over)

any wheat planted in corn stalks or continues cropped is never being cut

even with $11 wheat 6 dollar diesel will mean a lot will not be cut

grass is short in the pastures also

looking for cows to be grazing out wheat fields soon

planting corn all over but no moisture in the ground

in about 2 months, after july wheat harvest will know more about how the upcoming corn harvest is looking

tl/dr stock up on food
