PHOENIX, Ariz. — Last week, results from an undercover operation dubbed “April Fools” aimed at targeting alleged sexual predators was announced by local law enforcement in partnership with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).
HSI joined the Phoenix Police Department Human Exploitation and Trafficking (HEaT) along with the Mesa, Chandler, Scottsdale, Glendale and Surprise Police Departments, Arizona Department of Public Safety, FBI, and the Arizona Attorney General’s Office for Operation April Fools. The undercover operation targeting the demand for child sex crimes and human trafficking netted 29 male arrests. Throughout the operational period, undercover detectives placed ads on websites commonly sought out by suspects seeking illegal sex acts with minors. The suspects allegedly solicited and/or brokered deals for various sex acts and were subsequently arrested.

Unvaccinated people are much more likely to develop broad antibody immunity after Covid infections than people who have received mRNA shots, a new study shows.
The gap remains large whether people had mild, moderate, or severe Covid infections, the study showed - undercutting a crucial argument that vaccine advocates have made to defend the shots.
The research draws on data from Moderna’s 30,000-person clinical trial for its mRNA shots. It may help explain why so many Americans now suffer multiple Covid infections, sometimes within months.
Researchers already knew that many vaccinated people do not gain antibodies to the entire coronavirus after they are infected with Covid.
Unvaccinated people nearly always gain antibodies to the nucleocapsid protein, which covers the virus’s core of RNA, as well as its spike protein, which allows the virus to attack our cells. Vaccinated people often lack those anti-nucleocapsid antibodies and only have spike protein antibodies.

Vaccine advocates claim the lack of nucleocapsid antibodies may occur because the mRNA shots prime people to fight off the Covid infections more quickly and have lower viral loads. In this view, the narrow immune response is a feature, not a bug - vaccinated people are less seriously infected and so do not need to generate anti-nucleocapsid antibodies.
This study essentially demolishes that theory.
Scientists from the National Institutes of Health and Moderna quietly posted the paper a month ago as a pre-print, but it has received little attention despite its import.
The researchers examined the development of anti-nucleocapsid antibodies in people who had been part of Moderna’s clinical trial and were infected with Covid. As they expected, the scientists found that the vaccinated people were far less likely to develop the anti-nucleocapsid antibodies. Only 40 percent of people who received the shots had antibodies, compared to 93 percent of those who did not.
But they then went a step further. Because the infected people had been in the trial, their viral loads had been precisely measured when they were found to have Covid. So the researchers were able to compare vaccinated and unvaccinated people who had the same amounts of virus in their blood.

US to send anti-ship missiles to Ukraine – Reuters
Washington is reportedly looking to provide powerful missiles to help break a Russian naval blockade of Ukrainian ports
President Joe Biden’s administration is reportedly maneuvering to send more advanced anti-ship missiles to Ukraine to help the former Soviet republic break a Russian naval blockade of its Black Sea ports.
The missiles in question are the Harpoon, made by Boeing, and the Naval Strike Missile (NSM), made by Kongsberg and Raytheon Technologies, Reuters reported on Thursday, citing three unidentified administration officials and two congressional sources. Talks are active on whether to ship the missiles directly to Kiev or to transfer them through a European ally.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been lobbying since at least April for his Western backers to provide Harpoons or other missiles with similar capabilities. However, as Reuters noted, countries have avoided being the first nation or the only nation providing such weaponry to Kiev, “fearing Russian reprisals if a ship is sunk with a Harpoon from their stockpile.”
One “well stocked” country is now considering becoming the first to ship such missiles to Ukraine, while others might follow, according to the report. The NSM can be launched relatively easily from the coast and has a maximum range of 250 kilometers. NATO allies have mobile ground-based NSM launchers available to loan, Reuters said, and the warheads would come from Norway.
The Harpoon can destroy targets from nearly 300 kilometers away, but it’s typically used as a ship-to-ship missile, and there are few platforms available for launching it from shore. The US may try to solve that issue by pulling a launcher off an American warship, Reuters said. The Harpoon cruises in a low, sea-skimming trajectory and has active radar guidance.
Ukraine has also requested Multiple Rocket Launcher Systems (MRLS), such as Lockheed Martin’s M270, which now can reportedly be considered for shipment after Thursday’s passage of a $40 billion aid bill by the US Senate. The M270 can hit a target upward of 70 kilometers away, a far longer range than is offered by Ukraine’s existing howitzer rounds.

Russia will not export food to the detriment of its own market, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council and former president Dmitry Medvedev said, adding that the West has to blame its own “cosmic cretinism” for the looming crisis.
In a lengthy Telegram post, Medvedev commented on recent statements by Western leaders about food security. As Russia and Ukraine are major wheat suppliers, accounting for some 30% of global exports, the prices have significantly grown since the launch of the Russian military offensive in the neighboring state and the subsequent sanctions imposed on Moscow by the US, the EU, the UK and some other Western nations. On Wednesday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that fertilizers and food products from Russia should be available to the world markets without obstacles.
Medvedev agreed that without wheat and other food supplies from Russia, the importing countries would “have a very difficult time,” especially, he noted, because, without Russian fertilizers, “only juicy weeds [would] grow” on their fields.
“Well … that’s sad. They’ve got themselves to blame,” he wrote.
In Medvedev’s opinion, the West is now “backing up” because “all these hellish sanctions are worthless when it comes to vital things,” such as food or energy.
Sanctions interfere with everyone’s desire to live a normal, prosperous life, the former Russian president argued. The expansion of NATO and the “mess with the calculations of debts, payments and other things” have aggravated the situation, he said.
“And what interferes the most is [the West’s] own cosmic cretinism,” he claimed.
According to Medvedev, Russia is ready to fulfill all of its obligations, but it has the right to expect some assistance from trading partners. Otherwise, he emphasized, there would be no logic to it: “On the one hand, insane sanctions are being imposed on us, and, on the other hand, [the West] is demanding food supplies.”
“It will not happen, we’re not idiots,” he said, adding that there would be no export deliveries to the detriment of the Russian market.

Biden Meets With Finnish, Swedish Leaders, Offers Support for NATO Bids
President Joe Biden on May 19 wholeheartedly backed the bids of Finland and Sweden for North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) membership, saying the two countries meet every requirement for joining the alliance.
“Sweden and Finland have strong democratic institutions, strong militaries, and strong and transparent economies, and a strong moral sense of what is right,” Biden said in prepared remarks in the White House’s Rose Garden.
Having two new members in northern Europe “will enhance the security of our alliance and deepen our security cooperation across the board,” he added.
Biden was speaking after meeting with Finland’s President Sauli Niinistö and Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson in Washington. He said both countries “have the full, total complete backing of the United States of America.” The White House was planning to submit on Thursday reports on NATO accession for the countries to the Senate so senators could quickly greenlight the bids, which were lodged this week.
A bipartisan majority of senators have already signaled support.
Niinistö told the crowd that joining NATO has drawn strong support in his country following the Russian invasion of Ukraine and called the United States a key backer during the process.

DeSantis Signs Fentanyl, Meth Bill That Enhances Penalties for Trafficking
Gov. Ron DeSantis signed HB 95 on May 19, making it a capital offense for the drug dealer when a death results from the sale of fentanyl and methamphetamine and increasing penalties for trafficking.
“Someone dealing fentanyl is murdering people and they are going to go to prison in the state of Florida and that’s appropriate,” DeSantis said. With fentanyl, unlike some other drugs, “you don’t get a second chance.”
DeSantis said the leading cause of death for people 18 to 45 years of age in the United States is fentanyl. Preliminary data from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 2021 indicates that fentanyl was involved in 77 percent of overdose deaths.
HB 95 will also make the distribution of methamphetamine which causes the death of a person to be felony murder, the Republican governor said at a press conference in Lakeland.
According to a press statement from the governor’s office, “HB 95 implements recommendations of the Statewide Task Force on Opioid Abuse, which was created by Governor DeSantis in 2019 to develop a statewide strategy and identify best practices to combat the opioid epidemic through education, treatment, prevention, recovery, and law enforcement.”
“One of my first actions as governor was to create the statewide Task Force on Opioid Abuse to develop a statewide strategy to combat the opioid epidemic through education, treatment prevention, recovery, and law enforcement,” he said. “This bill enhances the penalties for selling controlled substances within 1,000 feet of a substance abuse treatment facility, increases the mandatory minimum sentence for trafficking fentanyl and analogues which has impacted communities across Florida and the U.S.”
