Member of Biden’s Secret Service Team Arrested in South Korea For Drunken Assault

A member of Joe Biden’s Secret Service team was arrested in Seoul, South Korea Thursday night for a drunken assault.

Two US Secret Service members were involved in the altercation and sent home ahead of Biden’s visit to the region.

“The Secret Service is aware of an off-duty incident involving two employees which may constitute potential policy violations. The individuals will be immediately returned back to their post of duty and placed on administrative leave,” Secret Service spox Anthony Guglielmi said. “There was no impact to the upcoming trip. We have very strict protocols and policies for all employees and we hold ourselves to the highest professional standards. Given this is an active administrative personnel matter, we are not in a position to comment further.”

Other witnesses also lodged complaints about the federal law enforcement officers’ behavior,

One of the employees was investigated by local police, but no charges were filed. The Secret Service is conducting its own investigation.

Massive fire stops arrivals at Swiss airport

All landings at the Geneva Airport have been suspended due to a fire at a nearby building

Thick black smoke from a nearby burning building temporarily stopped all arrivals at the airport in Geneva, Switzerland on Friday afternoon. Departures from the country’s second-busiest airport were left to the pilots’ discretion. The fire broke out at a reception facility for asylum-seekers that was under construction.

“Due to a fire at the edge of the runway, landings and take-offs have been suspended since 5:35 p.m.” tweeted the airport’s official account. “A reopening of the runway, for takeoffs initially, is envisaged around 7 p.m.” local time.

According to airport spokesman Ignace Jeannerat, the “new reception center for asylum-seekers – which was under construction… it is on fire. It is outside the airport perimeter.”

“It is creating a lot of smoke,” Jeannerat added.

It is up to the pilots whether their flights will depart from the airport, he explained, while all the arrivals have been suspended for the time being.

The airport, located next to the Swiss border with France, has a single concrete runway almost 4km long. It is the second-busiest airport in Switzerland, after Zurich. According to reporters on the scene, incoming flights from Lisbon, Barcelona and Madrid have already been diverted, while other arrivals are showing as delayed.

Russia Announces New Military Units On Western Border Over Finland NATO Bid

Russia’s Defense Ministry has for the first time issued details regarding its threatened "military and technical" response two days after Finland and Sweden submitted their applications for NATO membership.

Defense Minister Gen. Sergei Shoigu described in public statements that Russia's military is beefing up its troop presence along its western borders, though without specifying which exact locations. Finland shares an over 800-mile border with Russia. Shoigu outlined that 12 new units will be established under the Western Military District for new border patrols, to include heavy equipment.

"We are taking adequate countermeasures. Under these conditions, we are actively improving the combat composition of the troops. By the end of the year, 12 military units and subunits will be formed in the Western Military District," Shoigu told Russian media outlets.

Russia says it paid its Eurobond coupons in full

The payment was made days ahead of the expiration of a US waiver on Russian bond payments

Russia has made coupon payments in full on two outstanding Eurobonds due on May 26, the country’s Finance Ministry said on Friday. The early disbursements come ahead of a potential US block on Russian debt payments.

“The Ministry of Finance informs that the funds for the payment of external bond loans of the Russian Federation maturing in 2026 in the amount of $71.25 million and in 2036 in the amount of €26.5 million ($28 million) were received by the paying agent for Eurobonds, the National Settlement Depository,” the ministry said in a statement.

According to the ministry, as of April 1, 2022, Russia’s external public debt amounted to $57.143 billion, including debt on Eurobonds ($37.26 billion). In total, Russia has 15 outstanding Eurobonds with maturities ranging from 2022 to 2047.

The National Settlement Depository has received the funds, the ministry said. However, it is unclear whether the depository would be able to channel the funds further so that they reach Russia’s creditors.

In response to the sanctions placed on Russia in connection with its military operation in Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin in March allowed the payment of foreign currency debts in rubles. However, Western analysts claimed this would be a breach of covenants.

Russia has been given the ability to pay off its dollar-denominated debt thanks a waiver provided by Washington. However, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen this week announced that the waiver, which expires on May 25, may be allowed to expire, although no final decision on the matter has been reached. If the waiver expires, Russia will lose the ability to make coupon payments to US investors on its dollar bonds, which would constitute a default, albeit a technical one.

Russia has been eager to avoid default, which is seen as risking reputational damage. Russia’s Finance Minister Anton Siluanov repeated earlier this week that Russia has enough money to service its Eurobonds and would make payments in rubles if Washington blocks other options.

After May 25, Russia will still have nearly $2 billion worth of external bond payments due before the end of the year.

Oz, who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump, led McCormick by 1,240 votes, or 0.09 percentage points, out of 1,334,376 ballots counted as of midday Thursday. The race remained close enough to trigger Pennsylvania’s automatic recount law, with the separation between the candidates inside the law’s 0.5% margin.

Oz’s margin has narrowed in the past day, as county election officials continue to count mail ballots, but election workers still have thousands of ballots left to count in the exceptionally close race. Pennsylvania’s Department of State, which oversees elections, said Thursday that there are about 51,000 mail-in and absentee ballots — 17,000 in the Republican primary — left to be counted…

…Statewide, McCormick was doing better than Oz among mail ballots, while Oz was doing better among votes cast on election day. Counties also must still count provisional, overseas and military absentee ballots before they certify their results to the state by next Tuesday’s deadline.

Another Study Confirms Wearing Masks Increases Infection COVID

While people across the globe have been coerced to wear germ-ridden fabrics across their faces to enter indoor venues or travel throughout the pandemic in the name of “safety,” new research confirms wearing face coverings increases the likelihood of getting sick or contracting a deadly infection.

After examining the correlation between morbidity and mask usage using data collected from 35 European countries over a six-month span throughout the 2020-2021 winter, Associate Professor Beny Spira at the University of São Paulo found wearing masks not only useless in preventing the transmission of COVID or airborne viruses but a “moderate positive correlation between mask usage and deaths.”

According to Spira’s peer reviewed study published in Cureus Journal of Medical Science on April 19 , face masks do nothing to prevent transmission of disease and, in fact, increase te risk of dying from COVID-19 and respiratory illnesses.

“The findings presented in this short communication suggest that countries with high levels of mask compliance did not perform better than those with low mask usage in the six-month period that encompassed the second European wave of COVID-19,” Spira notes in the study titled Correlation Between Mask Compliance and COVID-19 Outcomes in Europe.

“The lack of negative correlations between mask usage and COVID-19 cases and deaths suggest that the widespread use of masks at a time when an effective intervention was most needed, i.e., during the strong 2020-2021 autumn-winter peak, was not able to reduce COVID-19 transmission,” he continues.

Spiral, who primarily investigates the molecular genetics of microorganisms, found a “moderate positive correlation” between mask usage and COVID-19 related deaths.

“The positive correlation between mask usage and cases was not statistically significant (rho = 0.136, p = 0.436), while the correlation between mask usage and deaths was positive and significant (rho = 0.351, p = 0.039),” the study reveals. “The Spearman’s correlation between masks and deaths was considerably higher in the West than in East European countries: 0.627 (p = 0.007) and 0.164 (p = 0.514), respectively.”

This is not the first study to find these results on masking.

The Latest & Greatest in Censorship: Twitter Will Hide Tweets Sharing ‘False Info’ During a ‘Crisis’

Twitter recently announced a new policy to prevent alleged “misinformation,” stating that tweets containing what it considers false information during an active crisis will be hidden on the platform.

The Verge reports that Twitter announced a new policy on Thursday aiming to fight what it labels misinformation on the platform during an active crisis. The company has established new standards for blocking or hiding certain tweets if they are believed to contain misinformation.

Yoel Roth, Twitter’s left-wing head of safety and integrity, said in a blog post detailing the policy: “Content moderation is more than just leaving up or taking down content and we’ve expanded the range of actions we may take to ensure they’re proportionate to the severity of the potential harm.”

The new policy will put larger scrutiny on false reporting of events, false allegations relating to weapons or use of force, and broader misinformation relating to atrocities and international responses. It is not uncommon for hoax tweets and misinformation to go viral during emergencies as users attempt to share unverified information.

The new policy states that tweets classified as misinformation will not be deleted or banned but will have a warning label attached requiring users to click a button to see the tweet. The tweets will also be blocked from promotion in Twitter’s newsfeed algorithm, drastically reducing their reach.

The new policy is meant to only apply to specific events, with Twitter initially applying the policy to content relating to the ongoing war in Ukraine, but Twitter expects the rules to apply to all crises going forward.

The company defines a crisis as “situations in which there is a widespread threat to life, physical safety, health, or basic subsistence.”

Pro-transgender video for kindergarteners says a doctor can make a 'mistake' about a baby's gender. Clip just got removed from Maine's Dept. of Education website.

A pro-transgender, pro-LGBTQ video for kindergarteners — which says a doctor can sometimes make a "mistake" about a baby's gender — has been removed from Maine's Department of Education website over "age appropriateness" issues.

What does the video say?

The "Freedom Holidays" video in question is one of about 400 optional instruction clips developed by teachers during the COVID-19 pandemic to help teachers engage remote learners, the Portland Press-Herald reported.

The video, which speaks directly to kindergarteners, begins with a teacher discussing holidays such as July 4 that celebrate freedom. But soon the teacher in the clip begins talking about "LGBT+" people and adds, "We're not free."

The teacher then defines the words "lesbian," "gay," "bisexual," and "transgender," noting that lesbians are "women who love other women," gay men "love other men," and bisexual people are men and women who "love both men and women."

Then the teacher tells the kindergarteners a "transgender person is someone who the doctors made a mistake about when they were born." Here's the breakdown:

"When a baby is born, the doctors will tell the parents what gender they think that baby is … but some people when they get a little bit older realize what the doctors said was not right. They might say that 'the doctors told me I was a man, but I'm really a woman,' or they might say 'the doctors told me I'm a woman, but I'm really a man.' And so when they grow up and … tell people that the doctors made a mistake about their gender, then they can transition to be the gender that they actually are."

Here's the continued explanation for the kindergartener audience:

"So transgender men are people who the doctors thought was a woman when they were born, but when they grew up, they could tell people that they're actually a man, and so they transition to be a man. And transgender women are people who when they were born the doctors thought they were a man, but when they grow up, they tell people, 'No, I'm actually a woman,' and so they transition to be a women. And so that is who transgender people are."

The teacher then tells the kindergarteners that the "plus sign" at the end of LGBT stands for "a lot of other people who love in ways that society hasn't always allowed." She says such restrictions were "wrong because there are lots of men who love other men and lots of women who love women, and there are lots of people who are transgender."

The clip concludes with the teacher saying the kindergarteners would learn about three famous LGBTQ activists who "fought" for the right to "love who they wanted to love."

The European Union is reportedly threatening to target areas represented by government ministers and Brexiteers with Russia-like sanctions to pressure them not to scrap the Northern Ireland Protocol which gives it continuing power over the British province.

Northern Ireland — despite being an integral part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland — was left partly under EU control for the purposes of customs and regulations in the 175 Boris Johnson agreed with Brussels.

However, the Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary Liz Truss are now claiming that the British government may legislate to abrogate parts of this Northern Ireland Protocol unilaterally, as it is being used to disrupt internal trade and has caused British unionists in the Province to refuse to form a regional government alongside Irish nationalists — a requirement under the Good Friday peace deal between them.

The EU, as punishment, is threatening to impose almost Russia-like tariffs specifically calculated to damage British decision-makers and Brexit supporters, according to reports.

“It is a longstanding practice of the [European] Commission to target its trade defence policy to avoid contingent effects and to support political objectives,” a source described as a “senior EU diplomat” told The Telegraph, a notionally right-leaning outlet which supported Brexit and is close to Britain’s governing Conservative Party.

The newspaper said it was suggested to them that businesses in so-called ‘Red Wall’ constituencies — former strongholds of the left-wing Labour party, whose traditional colour is red, in Britain’s post-industrial heartlands, which flipped Conservative to “get Brexit done” in the 2019 general election en masse — would be among the first to be targeted by the EU, in order to harm the electoral prospects of their generally eurosceptic new MPs.

“It was part of the conversation with the U.S. and has been on the table multiple times over the past couple of years whenever the UK threatened to blow up the [Brexit] deal,” said their diplomatic source, referring to the EU having previously targeted U.S. exports including Levi’s jeans, Harley-Davidson motorcycles, Florida orange juice, and bourbon whiskey, in order to damage then-President Donald Trump in key swing states.

Discussion among exercise participants led to the following key findings:

To address these findings, the authors developed the following 5 recommendations.

Develop and institute national-level triggers for early, proactive pandemic response

Establish an international entity dedicated to reducing emerging biological risks associated with rapid technology advances

Develop a catalytic global health security fund to accelerate pandemic preparedness capacity building in countries around the world

What is especially interesting about these recommendations is the role the UN, WHO and Banks will have to play (all are mentioned in the report). This seems like a direct nod to the WHO Pandemic treaty which is being discussed at the World Health Assembly May 22-28.

Isn’t it interesting as well that the World Economic Forum 2022 meeting is also taking place from May 22-26.

FEC Rejects Complaint Against Hillary Clinton’s 2016 Presidential Campaign

The Federal Election Commission has dismissed a complaint alleging that Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign broke the law by soliciting favorable media coverage.

In a 6-0 vote, the commission tossed the complaint that relied primarily on WikiLeaks emails from Guccifer 2.0.

“Several prominent reporters and media personalities were mentioned in the complaint, including Maggie Haberman of The New York Times, John Harwood of CNN (formerly of CNBC, where he was during the 2016 campaign), as well as outlets such as The Boston Globe, Politico, NBC, and Univision,” Business Insider reported.

“Haberman, a Pulitzer Prize winner who revealed some of the Trump administration’s most embarrassing and politically costly scandals through her reporting, was mentioned in a Clinton campaign email obtained by The Intercept in October 2016 during the WikiLeaks saga,” the Business Insider report added.

Although former Intercept editor Glenn Greenwald wrote that “Haberman’s stories were more sophisticated, nuanced, and even somewhat more critical than what the Clinton memo envisioned,” the complaint from Tony Dane of Virginia used the article to support broader accusations of illegal donations.

Tony Dane of Virginia, who filed the complaint on his own behalf prior to the 2016 presidential election, alleged that the Clinton campaign was breaking campaign finance laws by using favorable media coverage as an unpaid or “in-kind” donation.

Dane also included emails from WikiLeaks in his complaint, which showed Clinton campaign staff planning off the record parties for media personalities.

Clinton is also engulfed in Special Counsel John Durham’s investigation.

U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper ruled that GPS Fusion, the research firm Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign hired to dig up dirt on Donald Trump’s alleged ties to Russia, must turn over nearly two dozen emails to Durham’s team.

“Those emails – which are largely exchanges between Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussman and Fusion GPS – are part of a batch that prosecutors subpoenaed last year. U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper blocked prosecutors from getting 16 of those emails but allowed Durham to obtain 22,” Fox News reported.

“Cooper ruled that the 16 emails in question were protected by attorney-client privilege and attorney-work-product while the remaining 22 were not. Still, the judge ruled that those emails will not be admissible in the impending trial of Sussman – who is charged with lying to the FBI during a September 2016 meeting – because of the untimeliness of Durham’s request,” the report added.

Durham has indicted a prominent lawyer who worked for the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign.

FDA Dumps More Pfizer Documents: Why Were So Many Adverse Events Reported as ‘Unrelated’ to Vaccine?

The latest release of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine documents raises questions about how frequently adverse events experienced by clinical trial participants were reported as “unrelated” to the vaccine.

The 80,000-page document cache released May 2 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) includes an extensive set of Case Report Forms (CRFs) from Pfizer trials conducted at various locations in the U.S.

The documents also include the “third interim report” from BioNTech’s trials conducted in Germany (accompanied by a synopsis of this report and a database of adverse events from this particular set of trials).

The FDA released the documents, which pertain to the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) of the vaccine, as part of a court-ordered disclosure schedule stemming from an expedited Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request filed in August 2021.

Public Health and Medical Professionals for Transparency, a group of doctors and public health professionals, submitted the FOIA request.

Adverse events during Pfizer vaccine trials in the U.S. usually reported as ‘unrelated’ to vaccination

Pfizer conducted a series of vaccine trials at various locations in the U.S., including the New York University Langone Health Center, Rochester Clinical Research and Rochester General Hospital (Rochester, New York) and the J. Lewis Research, Inc. Foothill Family Clinic (Salt Lake City, Utah).

The Pfizer documents released this month by the FDA included a series of CRFs for patients who suffered some type of adverse event during their participation in the COVID-19 vaccine trials.

As the documents reveal, despite the occurrence of a wide range of symptoms, including serious cardiovascular events, almost none were identified as being “related” to the vaccine.

Such serious yet “unrelated” adverse events included:

Acute asthma exacerbation

Aortic aneurysm (listed as a pre-existing condition)

Appendicitis (requiring hospitalization)

Atrial defibrillation

Cardiac arrest and acute respiratory failure, requiring hospitalization, sustained by a patient who then was “lost” (could not be located for continued participation in the trial)

Chest pain (requiring hospitalization, later listed as cardiac ischemia)

Coronary artery occlusion (listed as both serious and life-threatening)

Injuries sustained from a fall

Intermittent non-cardiac chest pain (requiring hospitalization)

Left breast cancer (listed as a pre-existing occult malignancy)

Neuritis (peripheral nerve Injury), listed as “unrelated” to the vaccine but related to the blood draw during vaccination

Pulmonary embolism and bilateral deep venous thrombosis

Respiratory failure (requiring hospitalization)

The Polish authorities are in favor of building military bases to permanently station NATO forces, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawicki said at a conference Thursday.

Senate Democrats Introduce Bill Requiring A Federal Firearms License To Buy And Own A Gun

Democratic Senators have introduced new gun control legislation that would, among other things, institute a federal license requirement to buy a gun.

Democratic New Jersey Senators Bod Menendez and Cory Booker, and Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal introduced the “Federal Firearm Licensing Act” Thursday. The bill would institute a requirement for gun purchasers to obtain a firearms license through the Department of Justice before buying or receiving a gun.

The text of the bill states in part:

[It] shall be unlawful for any individual to purchase or receive a firearm unless the individual has a valid Federal firearm license.

The bill then outlines the procedure for establishing the license under the Department of Justice, directing the attorney general to establish a system for issuing them. In order to be eligible to obtain the license itself, a prospective licensee must first complete a firearms safety course, which includes “a written test, to demonstrate knowledge of applicable firearms laws; and hands-on testing, including firing testing, to demonstrate safe use and sufficient accuracy of a firearm.” After that, the licensee must pass a federal background check and a criminal history; submit proof of identification; fingerprints; and information about the firearm the licensee intends to buy or obtain, including “make, model, and serial number, and the identity of the firearm seller or transferor.”

As Booker noted in a press release, the federal background check and ID check would require the licensee to be at least 21 years old, effectively raising the legal age of gun ownership to 21.

Under the law, the attorney general would have to approve or deny applications within 30 days, and notify state and local officials of every application. If approved, licenses would be made available at a “designated local office.” Each individual license would be valid to buy one firearm, to be purchased within 30 days of issuance. The licenses would expire five years after the issuance date. The law would also allow the attorney general to deny or revoke the license of anyone he deems “poses a significant danger of bodily injury to self or others by possessing, purchasing, or receiving a firearm.” The bill also includes a provision in which the law would not apply in states that have licensing processes “with substantially similar requirements.”

In addition, the bill makes it illegal to transfer a gun to any person without first being transferred to a licensed importer, manufacturer, or dealer. It also makes it illegal to sell or transfer a gun to an unlicensed person.

Taiwan Combines Vaccine Passport with Digital ID Number

Taiwan’s digital COVID-19 certificate, used to verify testing and vaccination status, will now include the individual’s national ID number, reported the Taipei Times.

The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) said that the digital vaccine certificates, rolled out on January 1 this year, will now include the national ID number, and it will require insurance companies to allow residents to use Covid certificates to make claims.

Insurance companies criticized the move, noting it will be difficult to verify claims because Covid certificates do not include the doctor’s information, which is required in case of disputes.

The Covid certificates only show the agency that provided the tests. But policy requires the name of the doctor who made the diagnosis.

To address their concerns, the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC), the agency that regulates insurers, met with insurance companies.

The country’s digital health pass system was already facing criticism over data privacy, with experts warning about fraud even before it was announced that the health pass will now include the bearer’s national ID number.

Joint List MK Sami Abou Shahadeh announced on Friday that he would submit legislation to begin the process of dissolving the Knesset next week, following the resignation of a Meretz lawmaker from the coalition, forcing the government to circle the wagons if it wants to prevent a fifth election in less than three years.

Speculation spiked that the bill to dissolve parliament would be submitted next Wednesday almost immediately after Ghaida Rinawie Zoabi announced she was quitting on Thursday morning, though most suspected the opposition-leading Likud party would be the one to move it forward. But as Benjamin Netanyahu’s party mulled on whether and when to make the announcement, it was one-upped by Abou Shahadeh, who heads the nationalist Balad faction within the six-seat, majority-Arab Joint List.

“I will submit the Knesset Dispersal Law [for a vote] next Wednesday. This bad government must fall,” he announced.

While Meretz MK Rinawie Zoabi’s resignation leaves the coalition with just 59 MKs, and a preliminary reading of a bill to disperse the Knesset for new elections needs only a simple majority, it would need an absolute majority of at least 61 MKs to clear its subsequent three readings, and it is not clear that the opposition could muster those 61 votes. Rinawie Zoabi said Thursday evening that she still hasn’t decided how she would vote if the bill is presented next week.

Moreover, while Abou Shahadeh made clear he would vote with the rest of the Likud-led opposition — which is made up of right-wing and religious parties — to dissolve parliament, there has been speculation that other members of the Joint List might be willing to throw the coalition a lifeline.

Azovstal Is Under Full Control Of Russian Armed Forces

On May 20, the Russian Ministry of Defence confirmed that all the Ukrainian militants surrendered from the territory of the Azovstal Metallurgical plant in Mariupol.

” The territory of the Azovstal Metallurgical plant in Mariupol, where a group of Ukrainian militants of the Nazi formation “Azov” has been blocked since April 21 this year, has been completely liberated.

The underground structures of the enterprise, in which the militants were hiding, came under the full control of the Russian armed forces. In total, since May 16, during the operation, 2,439 Azov Nazis and AFU servicemen blocked on the territory of the plant have laid down their arms and surrendered.

Today, on May 20, the last group of the 531 militants surrendered.

The so-called “commander” of the Nazis “Azov” was taken out of the territory of the combine in a special armored car, because of the hatred of Mariupol residents and the desire of the citizens to punish him for numerous atrocities.

The House on Wednesday voted 420-1 in favor of a bill that "promoted internet censorship and violations of the First Amendment" in the name of "combatting anti-Semitism."

Republican Kentucky Rep Thomas Massie was the lone vote against the bill.

"I don’t hate anyone based on his or her ethnicity or religion. Legitimate government exists, in part, to punish those who commit unprovoked violence against others, but government can’t legislate thought," Massie said Thursday after getting attacked by the media. "This bill promoted internet censorship and violations of the 1st amendment."

Don’t Talk About Abortion, Meta Tells Employees In Anticipation Of Supreme Court Ruling

Meta's Vice President of Human Resources Janelle Gale reminded employees on Thursday that they cannot discuss abortion in the workplace. The executive fears those discussions could contribute to a toxic culture.

The Verge first reported the news, also mentioning that Meta did not recently create the policy. It began in 2019 and sits under its "Respectful Communication Policy" guidelines. The policy also governs employee discussions about Black Lives Matter, immigration and transgender rights.

In the abortion section of the policy, it states that employees cannot discuss "opinions or debate about abortion being right or wrong." They also cannot discuss "availability or rights of abortion, and political, religious and humanitarian views on the topic."

Gale's comments acknowledged that the debate is "the most divisive and reported topic" among Meta employees.

"Even if people are respectful, and they’re attempting to be respectful about their view on abortion, it can still leave people feeling like they’re being targeted based on their gender or religion," Gale added.

She also said that abortion is a "unique topic that kind of trips that line on a protected class pretty much in every instance."

According to The Verge, while some employees like the policy, others reported feeling upset by it. One employee reported she felt a "strong sense of silence and isolation" because of the company's approach.

The comments come amid the leak of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito's majority draft opinion that would overturn Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey. The overturning of both precedents risks setting off total abortion bans in over half of the U.S. states.

After the leak, some big companies reassured employees that, in terms of healthcare, they would remain protected. Meta stayed quiet about the debate, instead repeatedly reminding its employees to observe its policy regarding politically and personally sensitive topics.

Tech executive receives federal sentence for illegally exporting equipment to Pakistan

CHICAGO — A technology executive has been sentenced to a year in federal prison for illegally exporting computer equipment from the United States to a nuclear research agency of the Pakistani government, following a Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Chicago-led investigation in conjunction with the Defense Criminal Investigative Service and U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of Industry and Security-Office of Export Enforcement.

“This federal sentencing is a significant victory for HSI in our continuous efforts to prevent the illicit networks behind attempted thefts of our nation’s military assets and sensitive controlled technology,” said Angie Salazar, HSI special agent in charge in Chicago. “Let this be a reminder to our adversaries that the United States will stop at nothing to protect and defend our national security.”

Obaidullah Syed, 67, of Northbrook, pleaded guilty last year to conspiring to export goods from the U.S. without a license from the Department of Commerce and to submit false export information. U.S. District Judge Mary M. Rowland on Tuesday sentenced Syed to a year and a day in federal prison. Prior to sentencing, Syed forfeited $247,000 of criminally derived funds to the U.S. government.

Syed owned Pakistan-based Business System International PVT. LTD., and Chicago-based BSI USA. The companies provided high-performance computing platforms, servers, and software application solutions. Syed admitted in a plea agreement that from 2006 to 2015 he conspired with his company’s employees in Pakistan to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act by exporting computer equipment from the U.S. to the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) without obtaining the required authorization from the U.S. Department of Commerce. The PAEC is a Pakistani government agency designated by the U.S. government as an entity which may pose an unusual or extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy, or economy of the United States.

Syed further admitted that he and the other conspirators falsely represented to U.S.-based computer manufacturers that the illegal shipments were intended for Pakistan-based universities or Syed’s businesses, when, in fact, the conspirators knew that the true end user of each shipment was either the PAEC or a research institute that trained the agency’s engineers and scientists. In so doing, Syed and his company caused the U.S.-based computer manufacturers to submit to the U.S. government shipping documents that listed false end-users for the U.S.-origin goods, thereby undermining the U.S. government’s ability to stop the illegal shipments.

Business System International Pvt. Ltd. was charged in the conspiracy as a corporate defendant. The company has yet to respond to the charges.

US Military Clears Itself of Blame in Syria Strike That Killed ‘Piles’ of Women and Children

No U.S. personnel will be held accountable for a March 2019 airstrike that killed scores of Syrian civilians including women and children, the Pentagon said Tuesday in announcing that an internal investigation into the massacre found that no laws of war were broken and that there was no cover-up of the incident as alleged in a New York Times exposé.

An executive summary of a classified investigation led by U.S. Army Gen. Michael Garrett stated that “no rules of engagement (ROE) or law of war (LOW) violations occurred” in connection with the March 18, 2019 strike near the Syrian town of Baghuz that, according to an initial battle assessment, killed around 70 people.

While finding that “policy compliance deficiencies at multiple levels of command led directly to numerous delays in reporting” the civilian casualties, and that “administrative deficiencies contributed to the impression” that the Pentagon did not take the incident seriously, the probe concluded there was “no malicious or wrongful intent” by the military, and that there was “no evidence” to support allegations of a cover-up.

However, a former evaluator in the Defense Department inspector general’s office who attempted to investigate the Baghuz strike said he personally witnessed Pentagon brass trying to bury reports of the bombing.

Clive Palmer has left countless Australians frustrated on the eve of the federal election, sending out a controversial spam text message about the World Health Organisation.

The mining billionaire and leader of United Australia Party inferred the country would be giving up control of it's healthcare system to the WHO and that it must be stopped.

The false conspiracy theory message shared a link to a video of UAP leader Craig Kelly where he says 'Australians cannot surrender the sovereignty of our nation and our medical decisions to the WHO'.

'Australia transferring all AU hospital & health to World Health Org immediately. Stop them. Vote 1 United Australia Party,' the unsolicited text said.
