Biden: Everybody Should Be Concerned About Monkeypox

Joe Biden told reporters Sunday in South Korea that Monkeypox is “something everybody should be concerned about” in response to a question about the outbreak that has seen small numbers of cases in Europe, the U.S., Canada and Australia that has been tied to a gay fetish festival in Belgium earlier this month. Belgium has ordered a 21-day quarantine for infected people.

In his response, Biden reveals yet again that he is a puppet of his staff and knows only what they tell him.

Q & A via White House transcript:

Q Mr. President, quick question: What have your health advisors told you your level of concern should be about monkeypox and the cases that are in the United States and around the world?

THE PRESIDENT: Well, they haven’t told me the level of exposure yet, but it is something that everybody should be concerned about. We’re working on it hard to figure out what we do and what vaccine, if any, may be available for it.

But it is a concern in the sense that if it were to spread, it’s consequential. That’s all they have told me.

Did the Biden Administration Just Give a Boost To the Hunter Biden Defense?

Below is my column in the New York Post on the implications of the recent civil lawsuit against Steve Wynn for allegedly working as an agent for China. The lawsuit was brought under the Foreign Agents Registration Act. The timing of the shift to civil penalties is significant given the ongoing investigation of Hunter Biden for possible FARA violations. The decision of the Biden Administration to move away from criminal charges under FARA could prove highly advantageous for Hunter Biden.

Here is the column:

The Justice Department this week sued former casino mogul Steve Wynn for allegedly working as an agent for China. The lawsuit under the Foreign Agents Registration Act is bad news for Wynn, but it may be a win for another potential target: Hunter Biden.

By bringing this action as a civil lawsuit, the Justice Department may have undercut the ongoing investigation by David Weiss, the US attorney for Delaware, into Hunter Biden’s foreign dealings. This civil suit doesn’t necessarily bar Weiss, but Biden’s team can now argue that criminally charging him with a FARA violation would be inconsistent with contemporary investigations.

I recently testified in Congress on FARA prosecutions and noted that the Justice Department had largely dropped civil actions under the act in favor of criminal charges. Special counsel Robert Mueller targeted various Trump officials with FARA, using the law to investigate, search or charge attorneys from Paul Manafort to Rudy Giuliani to Victoria Toensing.

I testified earlier that “after ramping up prosecutions in the last decade, the Justice Department has created precedent for the criminalization of what were previously treated as administrative violations. From Paul Manafort to the current investigation of Hunter Biden, there remain questions as to whether Justice Department will operate under a single, coherent and predictable standard.”

Some in the administration may be hoping that this charge will compel a consistent approach that would effectively decriminalize any violations under investigation in Delaware.

The feds sued Wynn over his effort to intervene in the case of Chinese businessman Guo Wengui, a billionaire real-estate magnate and critic of the Chinese government. Beijing wanted the businessman back in China and hoped to persuade the US government to deny him a visa.

Wynn spoke to President Donald Trump about the case, a call that carried added weight due to Wynn’s position as the Republican National Committee’s finance chairman.

Wynn has interests in Macau, and his intervention was allegedly appreciated by high-ranking Chinese officials. The Justice Department asked Wynn to register as an agent, but he declined.

What is most striking about this case is how serious it is, particularly compared with past criminal cases like the prosecution of Paul Manafort. Here, Sun Lijun, then the Chinese vice minister for public security, was allegedly organizing the lobbying effort in 2017 and contacted figures like Elliott Broidy, a former RNC finance chairman, and Nickie Lum Davis, a top Trump fundraiser. Both Broidy and Davis later pleaded guilty in prosecutions.

The question is why Broidy was criminally prosecuted in 2020 under FARA, including for work on the Guo matter, yet the Biden administration suddenly decided that the Wynn part of the deals should be treated as a civil matter. This is coming at the very time a grand jury is reportedly considering charges against Hunter Biden that could include FARA violations.

Wynn not only allegedly acted at the request of Chinese officials but was able to make direct contact with Trump to lobby him on the issue. He had no apparent interest in Guo, who would face a dire future if deported to China. But he had major financial interests in China, and the investigation yielded other criminal charges.

A huge high-profile case like Wynn’s is not simply left to local prosecutors. Main Justice is often involved in such investigations and charging decisions. Other agencies can also be involved.

Poland tells Norway to hand over oil revenues

Polish PM Mateusz Morawiecki has accused the Nordic country of making “unjust” oil and gas money amid the Ukraine conflict

Norway should share the “excess” profits it’s been making as oil and gas prices soar amid the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said at the National Youth Dialogue Congress on Saturday.

“But should we be paying Norway gigantic money for gas – four or five times more than we paid a year ago? This is sick,” he said, claiming that the excess of the annual average gas and oil profit “will exceed €100 billion” this year for a country of five million people like Norway.

“They should share these excess profits. It’s not normal, it’s unjust. This is an indirect preying on the war started by Putin,” the PM said.

Morawiecki also urged young Poles to go and shame their Norwegian “friends” over the fat gas profits online to push the country into sharing the wealth.

“Write to your young friends in Norway,” he said. “They should share it immediately,” Morawiecki stated, adding that it shouldn’t necessarily be shared with Poland, but with Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Poland’s main gas company, state-controlled PGNiG SA, saw its Ebitda (or earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) profits almost double in the first quarter, reaching some $2.19 billion, writes Bloomberg. The profit was primarily generated by the Norwegian unit of the state-owned Polish company, which accounted for almost half of the massive figure.

Moreover, Poland was actively stocking up on gas before getting cut off by Russia, with German Gascade reporting a major spike in reverse gas flow in late April. Moscow stopped the gas supply to the country last month following Warsaw’s refusal to pay for fuel in rubles under a new scheme rolled out by Russia in response to the European sanctions.

Poland has seen its demand for gas steadily grow in recent past years as the country strives to phase-out old coal-fired equipment. Warsaw is expected to complete a gas pipeline from Norway later this year, a major project expected to help Poland to reduce its reliance on Russian gas.

Pentagon Reportedly Considering Sending US Special Forces Personnel to Kiev Embassy

At the start of Russia's special military operation in Ukraine, the US embassy in Kiev had already been shuttered for several weeks, with its diplomatic staff relocated to Poland. A small number of officials made short journeys to a makeshift diplomatic post in Lvov, just inside the Ukraine border.

US military and diplomatic officials are debating whether to send special forces troops to Kiev to guard the reopened embassy, summing up proposals that would force the Biden administration to choose between escalating the military presence in the conflict zone and concerns about the safety of the US diplomats, the Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday.

According to US insiders who spoke to the Journal on the condition of anonymity, the finalized plan has yet to be submitted to President Joe Biden.

If the president signs it, troops will reportedly only be deployed for the defense and protection of the embassy, which is within Russian missile range. The move would make their presence in Ukraine a departure from Biden's earlier assurance that no American troops would be dispatched within the nation.

The report further detailed that the White House is trying to strike a balance between the need to deter a potential attack on American personnel, and having sufficient forces to extract them if fighting breaks out in Kiev; and concerns within the State Department that a robust, visible security posture at the embassy might provoke some form of retaliation from Moscow.

Officials are reportedly considering reinstalling a Marine security guard detachment, similar to those that regularly provide protection to US embassies across the world, in addition to utilizing special forces troops to provide security.

For the near future, the State Department is reportedly meant to provide security for the Kiev-based embassy using a guard corps from the Diplomatic Security Service. The Journal reported that the Pentagon and State Department are still in the midst of preliminary planning for dozens of special forces troops who might either supplement security at the embassy or be ready to deploy if needed.

As of yet, no formal suggestions have been forwarded to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Army Gen. Mark Milley, or the American president.

"We are in close touch with our colleagues at the State Department about potential security requirements now that they have resumed operations at the embassy in Kiev,” Pentagon press secretary John Kirby said in a statement. “But no decisions have been made, and no specific proposals have been debated at senior levels of the department about the return of US military members to Ukraine for that or any other purpose."

US officials reportedly anticipate a stronger presence for the US in the future, depending on how the crisis in Ukraine's east plays out. In addition, some US military officials want special forces and other personnel that were training and advising the Ukrainian military to return to Ukraine, per the WSJ.

Ukrainian leaders rule out a ceasefire and will not cede territory to Russia to end fighting

Ukrainian leadership has ruled out the possibility of a ceasefire or granting any concessions of land or policy to Russia.

The decision not to grant either a ceasefire or concessions to end Russian President Vladimir Putin’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine came as Russian forces intensified their attack in the eastern Donbas region of Ukraine, and the Russian government decided to stop exports of gas to Finland, the New York Post reported.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, “The situation in Donbas is extremely difficult.” He made clear to his constituents that while the Russian army is trying to take the cities of Sloviansk and Sievierodonetsk, Ukrainian forces will dig in and work to hold off the Russian advance.

Russian forces were able to outlast the weekslong resistance by Ukrainian fighters in the southeastern city of Mariupol. Whoever controls Mariupol has strategic access to crucial waterways.

With full control of Mariupol, Russia will also have command of land routes linking the Crimean Peninsula with mainland Russia and other areas of eastern Ukraine that are of interest to the Russian government.

Russian forces are now waging a major offensive in Luhansk in the Donbas region. Russian-backed separatists already controlled large swathes of territory in Luhansk and the neighboring Donetsk. Reportedly, the Russian government wants to seize the last remaining Ukrainian-controlled territories in Donbas and forcibly annex the region.

Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to Zelenskyy, ruled out the possibility of Ukrainian officials agreeing to a ceasefire with Russia and said that the Ukrainian government would not accept any deal with Russia that involves the transfer of territory. Podolyak theorized that making any concessions to Russia would result in Russia renewing attacks on Ukraine shortly after the fighting breaks.

In a recent interview, Podolyak said, “The war will not stop (after concessions). It will just be put on pause for some time. They’ll start a new offensive, even more bloody and large-scale.”

Podolyak’s statements contradict calls for a ceasefire made by U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi.

Heightening tensions with Western nations, Russia’s state-owned gas company said it would be halting all gas exports to Finland in response to the Finns refusing to pay for Russian oil with rubles.

Last Wednesday, Finland and Sweden applied for membership in the NATO military alliance which will likely exacerbate Russian frustrations.

How Penny Wong hopes to create friendly relations with China as she secures a top role in Anthony Albanese's government

Penny Wong is set to become the new foreign minister following Labor's victory

Ms Wong is hoping to repair the relationship between Australia and China

She has urged the government to 'stop playing of domestic politics' on Beijing

The ALP emerged victorious, with Anthony Albanese named 31st Prime Minister

Penny Wong will be looking to repair Australia's damaged relationship with China when she becomes the foreign minister after Labor's historic election win.

The ALP emerged victorious in a captivating contest on Saturday night, with Anthony Albanese named as Australia's 31st Prime Minister.

Mr Albanese and Ms Wong, along with Richard Marles, Katy Gallagher and Jim Chalmers, are set to be the first ministers sworn in under the new government when they take the affirmation of allegiance at Government House on Monday.

Mr Albanese will then fly over to Tokyo with Ms Wong for a crucial meeting with the Quad leaders from Japan, the U.S. and India to discuss international matters.

China will likely be a point of discussion during the leaders meeting, as Penny Wong aims to repair relations with Australia's largest trading partner.

Ms Wong has previously admitted the task of getting back on Beijing's good side will be 'difficult' amid an ongoing trade spat, as well as a whirlwind of threats by diplomats and communist party-run newspapers.

But the senator has argued that it is possible for the bitter feud to simmer down if the government stops 'playing on domestic politics' with the external issue.

Pope Francis Says Nothing as the CCP Arrests Catholic Leaders in China and Hong Kong

Pope Francis remains silent as the CCP arrests and imprisons Catholic leaders in China and Hong Kong.

Where is Pope Francis? Why is he not leading the efforts to implement and support religious freedom in China and Hong Kong?

Last week the Cardinal in Hong Kong was arrested by the new head of the country who is a CCP plant. Pope Francis said nothing.

Also, over the past year, the bishop in China was taken by the CCP and kept in solitary confinement for months. No one knows where he is. According to Breitbart:

As Breitbart News reported, officials of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) arrested the bishop of Xinxiang on May 21, 2021, along with 10 priests and 10 seminarians, in an effort to apply further pressure to the illegal underground Catholic Church.

Police originally took the bishop and priests to a hotel where they were kept in solitary confinement and subjected to “political sessions” to indoctrinate them with the CCP’s understanding of religious freedom, according to a report by AsiaNews, the official press agency of the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions.

The seminarians were released after three days and the priests followed several days later, yet Bishop Zhang is still in police custody, illegally held without charges or trial at an unknown location. Chinese law stipulates that no one can be detained in solitary confinement without charges for more than three months.

Two family members were allowed to see the bishop for a few minutes during Lunar New Year celebrations, but no one is aware of where he is being held and priests are not permitted to visit or call him.

AsiaNews reported that the Catholic community in Xinxiang still hopes for their bishop’s release, while also growing worried about his physical and mental health.

The Vatican has apparently made no appeal for Bishop Zhang’s liberation.

Again, the Pope says nothing. Now as sovereign nations hand over their healthcare freedoms to the WHO, the Pope again remains silent.
