Transgender woman is accused of 'abuse' after revealing she's breastfeeding her wife's newborn - having taken hormones to stimulate milk production - as critics slam her for doing 'sick experiment' on an infant
The transgender woman explained that she worked with a lactation consultant and took a series of hormones and drugs to grow breasts and stimulate lactation
She revealed that she took estrogen and progesterone throughout her wife's pregnancy, but stopped taking the estrogen six weeks before the baby was due
She also took domperidone - a galactagogue used around the world to produce milk in breastfeeding mothers, which isn't FDA approved in the U.S.
She opened up about it online and it sparked a major debate, with some people branding it 'unnatural' for her to breastfeed the baby - since she was born a male
Others called it 'abuse,' claiming it is 'dangerous' for the baby to breastfeed after she took 'synthetic drugs' and that the milk would be filled with 'chemicals'
However, Tamar Reisman, an endocrinologist, told DailyMail.com that the regimen that the Reddit user took is 'pretty common' and completely safe
She explained that cisgender women use these drugs to induce lactation all the time, including adoptive mothers and birth moms struggling to breastfeed
