US airlines are once again grappling with the pilot shortage as travel demand skyrockets.

Regional carrier Republic Airways is considering reducing training requirements from 1,500 to 750 hours.

Senator Lindsay Graham reportedly could propose legislation that would increase the mandatory pilot retirement age from 65 to 67.

As the pilot shortage continues to rock the airline industry, carriers are struggling to fulfill their flight schedules, and some are even trying to reduce required training hours to get more pilots in the air.

On May 13, Alaska Airlines CEO Ben Minicucci apologized in a YouTube video for continued flight cancellations that have been plaguing the carrier. Minicucci blamed the pilot shortage, saying "we had 63 fewer pilots than what we planned for when we built our scheduled," which caused a "ripple effect."

"By the time we caught this error, April and May schedules were bid on by our pilots and flight attendants, making it impossible to sufficiently adjust schedules to avoid cancellations," he continued.

The Seattle-based carrier is just one example of airlines struggling to find enough pilots to handle the busy post-pandemic travel surge. According to Bloomberg, Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, and United Airlines have all cut regional flying in recent months due to the shortage, with United grounding 100 regional planes over the issue.

"The pilot shortage for the industry is real, and most airlines are simply not going to be able to realize their capacity plans because there simply aren't enough pilots, at least not for the next five-plus years," United CEO Scott Kirby said in a quarterly earnings call in April, per CNBC.

Because of the lack of pilots, carriers are considering changing long-standing requirements to get more pilots flying sooner, like nixing degree requirements, dropping the mandatory number of flight hours needed to be hired, and increasing the pilot retirement age.

Mike Pence IS OPEN to Running Against Trump in 2024 – Laying Groundwork for 2024 Run – Will Campaign with Brian Kemp Today in Georgia

Mike Pence is campaigning today with Governor Brian Kemp in Georgia. Pence is flying in for a final rally of the RINOs before Tuesday’s election.

Governor Kemp certified the fraudulent 2020 Georgia election. We now know that ballot traffickers working for Democrats stole the presidential election from Donald Trump in the red state and then stole the two senate seats in the runoff elections.

Kemp fought against election integrity investigators following the election.

After four years of service bordering on subservience, the increasingly emboldened Mr. Pence is seeking to reintroduce himself to Republican voters ahead of a potential presidential bid by setting himself apart from what many in the G.O.P. see as the worst impulses of Mr. Trump. He’s among a small group in his party considering a run in 2024 no matter what Mr. Trump decides.

Mr. Pence first used high-profile speeches to criticize the former president’s push to overturn the 2020 election results, stating flatly that Mr. Trump was “wrong” in his assertion that Mr. Pence could have blocked the Electoral College ratification on Jan. 6, 2021. Mr. Pence then unsubtly visited the Charlottesville, Va., memorial to Heather Heyer, who was killed in the 2017 white supremacist riot there that Mr. Trump sought to rationalize by faulting “both sides.”

Now, on Monday outside Atlanta, Mr. Pence is taking his boldest and most unambiguous step toward confronting his former political patron. On the eve of Georgia’s primary, the former vice president will stump with Gov. Brian Kemp, perhaps the top target of Mr. Trump’s 2022 vengeance campaign against Republicans who didn’t bow to his election lies.

Mr. Pence grew close with Mr. Kemp during the pandemic and 2020 campaign, and now he is lining up against Mr. Trump’s handpicked candidate, former Senator David Perdue. But more than that, Mr. Pence is seeking to claim a share of credit in what’s expected to be the starkest repudiation yet of Mr. Trump’s attempt to consolidate power, with Mr. Kemp widely expected to prevail.

SF Examiner editorial board demands Pope remove archbishop who barred Pelosi from communion over abortion

The San Francisco Examiner's editorial board wrote a scathing rebuke of the city’s archbishop, Salvatore Cordileone, after he announced he would deny Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., Holy Communion, over her staunch support for abortion.

Cordileone wrote to Pelosi on Friday, warning her that she cannot receive Communion while vowing to codify Roe v. Wade.

"You are not to present yourself for Holy Communion and, should you do so, you are not to be admitted to Holy Communion," he wrote.

In response, the liberal editorial board blasted the Catholic leader for "punishing" Pelosi, instead of "right-wing politicians" who "[vote] against health care or funding for the poor."

They defended Pelosi as a leader who has "consistently fought on the morally right side of these issues," and praised her as a role model for women.

The editorial board argued that by denying Pelosi Holy Communion, the archbishop wasn’t being loyal to Christ.

EXCLUSIVE: Partner of Goldman Sachs researcher, 48, shot dead in random attack on subway reveals he only took train that day because Uber was surge pricing due to record hot weather: Suspect is identified as Andrew Abdullah with NINETEEN priors

The Goldman Sachs employee shot dead in a random subway attack on Sunday was only on the train because Uber was too expensive and ordinarily avoided it because it is so dangerous, his grief-stricken partner has revealed.

Daniel Enriquez, 48, 'never' took the subway in crime-ridden New York City and would have taken an Uber to have brunch with his brother yesterday had it not been so expensive.

His partner Adam Pollack told DailyMail.com on Monday morning that he only went for the train because an Uber to and from Williamsburg would have cost $80.

Uber prices across the city surged thanks in part to the heat - it was close to 90F yesterday.

'He never took the subway, it wasn't his thing,' he said from the couple's home in Park Slope.

The three mile journey from his home in Park Slope to Williamsburg would have cost $23 on an ordinary day. On Sunday, it was $40 each way.

Instead of the 20 minute Uber, he opted for two subway trains. The first would have taken him to Union Square in Manhattan, but he was shot dead before he made it over Manhattan Bridge.

The gunman fled the train as it pulled into Canal Street station shortly after 11.42am and he remains at large.

DailyMail.com can reveal exclusively that the suspect now being hunted by police is Andrew Abdullah.

While he remains on-the-run and while the victim's family grieves, Mayor Eric Adams is said to be considering a presidential campaign after less than six months into his job.

'The View' hosts rail against Catholics who support death penalty: 'Hypocrisy is in the church too'

The co-hosts of ABC's "The View" criticized Gov. Greg Abbott, R-Texas, and former U.S. Attorney General William Barr on Monday for supporting the death penalty and capital punishment as practicing Catholics.

San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone wrote Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi a letter on Friday explaining that she should not receive communion during Mass due to her pro-choice stance on abortion.

The hosts of "The View" quickly came to Pelosi's defense, as Whoopi Goldberg said, "how dare you."

Host Joy Behar said that Pope Francis is not pro-choice, but that he's also "against capital punishment." She then pointed to Abbott, who she said "executed many people," and said that he was not denied communion.

"The hypocrisy is in the church too," she said.

Behar later clarified her previous statement and noted that he "did not himself pull the switch on executions," but rather oversaw them.

Co-host Sunny Hostin also criticized Catholics who are pro-life in their abortion stance but not when it comes to the death penalty or capital punishment as hypocritical.
