Biden Admits U.S. Gas Prices Driven by Incredible Transition Away from Fossil Fuels

During a joint press conference held in Tokyo, Japan, held by Joe Biden and Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Biden was asked about the financial pain Americans are feeling with massive increases in gasoline prices.

Outlining how his energy policy is directly related to the gasoline price, Joe Biden said: “Here’s the situation. And when it comes to the gas prices, we’re going through an incredible transition that is taking place that, God willing, when it’s over, we’ll be stronger and the world will be stronger and less reliant on fossil fuels when this is over.” Yet again proving the intent of the administration is to implement the ‘Green New Deal’ through executive action.

This admission is akin to former President Obama saying, “energy prices would necessarily skyrocket” in order to achieve the goals of the administration.

Muslim soccer player faces possible sanctions after refusing to wear LGBT rainbow jersey

PARIS (LifeSiteNews) — A player for the prestigious French soccer team Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has been making headlines around the world following his decision not to participate in a game where players were asked to wear LGBT-colored jerseys.

Senegalese midfielder for PSG Idrissa Gana Gueye missed a May 14 game against Montpellier during which his teammates were asked to wear jerseys with rainbow-colored numbers to show their support for the LGBT movement on the so-called International Day Against Homophobia.

Mauricio Pochettino, PSG’s coach cited “personal reasons” for the player’s absence, but the French media have since then been widely reporting that Gueye, a devout Muslim, did not want to wear the rainbow-colored shirt.

Gueye was already absent on that same occasion last year and at the time cited a case of gastro-enteritis.

This year, the Senegalese player is now facing major backlash for his decision not to play in the game.

“He was already absent last year. That leaves no doubt as to his intentions,” commented Bertrand Lambert, President of French soccer club Panam Boyz and Girlz.

“Homophobia is not an opinion but a crime,” tweeted Rouge Direct, a French advocacy group for proponents of LGBT ideology in sport. The group asked Gueye to explain himself and suggested that he be sanctioned by the PSG and the French professional football league (LPF) for his absence.

The controversy took an even bigger political turn when French politician and recent presidential candidate Valérie Pécresse took to Twitter to condemn Gueye, and also demanded that the Senegalese player be sanctioned for boycotting the game.

“The players of a football club, and those of PSG in particular, are role models for our young people. They have a duty to set an example,” she wrote.

“A refusal by Idrissa Gana Gueye to join the fight against homophobia could not remain without sanction!”

Supreme Court Rules To Limit Access To Federal Court Review In Death Penalty Case

A divided Supreme Court ruled on Monday that federal judges cannot hear new evidence from death row inmates who argue that their state-appointed lawyers were constitutionally ineffective during state trials.

In a 6-3 ruling, Justice Clarence Thomas argued in the court’s opinion that two death row inmates in Arizona can’t raise evidence of ineffective counsel during their federal habeas appeal given they had not presented the argument in state court.

“To respect our system of dual sovereignty … the availability of habeas relief is narrowly circumscribed,” Thomas wrote for the majority in Shinn v. Ramirez.

“Only rarely may a federal habeas court hear a claim or consider evidence that a prisoner did not previously present to the state courts in compliance with state procedural rules,” Thomas added.

The court’s three liberals — Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Stephen Breyer, and Elena Kagan — wrote for the dissent that the ruling “effectively ends” Sixth Amendment rights to counsel for people who might have been wrongfully convicted.

“This decision is perverse. It is illogical: It makes no sense to excuse a habeas petitioner’s counsel’s failure to raise a claim altogether because of ineffective assistance in postconviction proceedings,” the three liberal justices wrote for the dissent.

Sotomayor claimed the majority overruled previous precedents “that recognized a critical exception to the general rule that federal courts may not consider claims on habeas review that were not raised in state court.”

The ruling comes as the Supreme Court will soon deliver the official ruling on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the highly anticipated abortion case that could overrule Roe v. Wade.

Supreme Court To Review Dispute Over North Carolina Voter ID Law

The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to review a dispute over voter ID laws in North Carolina.

The nation’s highest court announced in a brief that it will hear a case over whether Republican lawmakers in North Carolina can intervene to defend the state’s voter ID law from lawsuits.

Republican lawmakers say the state’s Democratic Attorney General John Stein is not properly defending the law from legal challenges brought by the NAACP and other groups who claim it violates the Constitution and the Voting Rights Act.

“High court oral arguments will be sometime next year, with a ruling expected by July,” Fox News added.

Back in September, a North Carolina three-judge panel blocked the state’s photo voter ID law, ruling that it “was motivated at least in part by an unconstitutional intent to target African American voters.”

The law, S.B. 824, requires voters to present a photo ID in order to vote.

In a 2-1 ruling, two Wake County Superior Court judges held that the law violates the state’s constitution “because it was adopted with a discriminatory purpose.”

“North Carolina’s Voter ID law was enacted with the unconstitutional intent to discriminate against African American voters,” the majority wrote.

The two judges cited a 2015 study by Sen. Van Duyn that found at least 5.9% of registered voters lacked identification and that 9.6% of black voters “lacked acceptable ID” compared to just 4.5% of registered white voters under a previous election bill.

The majority also said the law was discriminatory because “since a greater percentage of Black voters live in poverty, Black voters face greater hurdles to acquiring photo ID.”

S.B. 824 required voters in North Carolina to present photo ID, including driver’s licenses, military IDs, and other forms of identification.
