Thursday, after only a few hours of deliberation a jury in Iowa City (IA) acquitted Brian Dykstra of all charges in the death of his Russian adopted son Isaac Jonathan Dykstra (no original name known.) The 21-month old was admitted to the hospital on August 2005, with severe head trauma and died the next day after being taken off of life support.

“This devastating brain injury was not accidental — it was a malicious act,” Beglin said. “And the only person who could have and did inflict that injury was the defendant, Brian Dykstra.”

Several medical officials testified Thursday in the Brian Dykstra second-degree murder trial that the death of his 20-month-old adopted child was due to “non-accidental trauma.”…

Evans, a former registered nurse for University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, testified that she told Dykstra that only blunt force trauma — like being in a car accident — could cause injuries of that magnitude.

Javal Davis

A former Abu Ghraib guard pleaded guilty Tuesday to battery and two other charges in the Iraqi prison abuse scandal as part of a deal with prosecutors on the eve of his trial.

Sgt. Javal Davis, 27, also pleaded guilty to dereliction of duty and making a false official statement to Army investigators after photographs of naked and abused prisoners became public last spring. Davis, from Roselle, N.J., will not be tried on two other charges he had faced: conspiracy and maltreating prisoners.

On February 4, 2005, Davis was sentenced after pleading guilty to charges of dereliction of duty, making false official statements, and battery. He was given the following sentence: six months in a military prison, reduction in rank to private (E-1); and a bad conduct discharge.

Kimberly Emelyantseva

There are multiple US citizens accused (and/or convicted) of child abuse/murdering an adopted Russian child. This one was convicted for murdering a 17-month old in 2008. I've seen several similar people called out for this on the blacklist.

Apparently, people in the government took notice and called for stopping adoption of Russian children to the US in 2010. At least someone was keeping track and recording the names.

Timothy and Jane Cochran

Another case of child abuse on an adopted Russian child.

4-year-old boy from Taganrog, Rostov, Russia, adopted by Jane and Timothy Cochran. The boy had severe bruising, cuts from head to toe. He'd been beaten by hand and with a wooden spoon and had been cut with scissors. Allegedly he was beaten because he couldn't say his prayers properly. Jane confessed her crimes to her Catholic priest prior to being arrested.
