Unvaccinated People Will Be Barred From This, Starting May 31

It’s hard not to feel like the worst of COVID is behind us, as even Anthony Fauci, MD, one of the nation’s top COVID advisers, is now saying the U.S. is out of the “pandemic phase.” But despite the U.S. seeing a consistent and significant decline in virus infections throughout February and March, cases are climbing back up again thanks to the BA.2 variant—an even faster-spreading subvariant of Omicron. According to the Centers for Disease and Control Prevention (CDC), new infections have increased by more than 35 percent in just the last week alone.

Despite all that, one major city is now getting ready to implement a new COVID vaccine requirement for certain workers. On April 26, Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney announced that its long-delayed mandate for unionized city workers would finally take effect next month, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported. According to a statement from the City of a Philadelphia, employees covered by the requirement will need to have proof of at least their first dose of a COVID vaccine by May 31.

Workers who have not submitted an exemption request by this date will be placed on unvaccinated leave starting June 6. This leave will either utilize accumulated paid vacation and holiday time or be unpaid for a maximum of 30 calendar days, after which workers could be up for termination if they remain unvaccinated. It wouldn’t be a first for the administration, as The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that 13 non-unionized city employees were fired for failing to comply with a Dec. 2021 vaccine mandate.

A panel for the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 22 is set to meet with the city on May 4 to discuss the vaccine mandate. But Joy Huertas, the spokesperson for Mayor Kenney, told The Philadelphia Inquirer that the administration intends to implement the May deadline for all unionized city workers no matter what happens with the fire union. “The safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines remain the best way to protect Philadelphians and save lives in the ongoing struggle to fight this pandemic,” Kenney said in his April 26 statement.

Kenney had first announced plans to require proof of COVID vaccination for city workers in Nov. 2021. The requirement was put in place for the administration’s 2,000 non-unionized employees in December, and the requirement for unionized city workers was originally supposed to take effect in January of this year. But this part of the vaccine mandate has been delayed, as the city has struggled to reach agreements with four major municipal unions in the city, which represent around 24,000 unionized city employees.

D.C. attorney general sues Mark Zuckerberg over Facebook privacy violations

The attorney general said the lawsuit is "necessary" and will show corporate leaders they "will be held accountable"

Washington, D.C., Attorney General Karl Racine (D) on Monday filed a lawsuit against Mark Zuckerberg for not protecting the privacy of Facebook users during the 2016 election's Cambridge Analytica scandal.

In his 33-page filing, Racine accused Zuckerburg, who is the CEO of Facebook's parent company Meta, of failing to protect users from "ambiguous, misleading, and deceptive" privacy practices since 2012.

Racine said his office found "extensive evidence that Zuckerberg was personally involved in failures that led to the Cambridge Analytica incident," where more than 70 million U.S. Facebook users' personal data was used to influence the 2016 election outcome. Facebook already paid a record-breaking $5 billion fine to the Federal Trade Commission for its role in the privacy scandal.

The AG noted, "This lawsuit is not only warranted, but necessary. Misleading consumers, exposing their data, and violating the law come with consequences, not only for companies that breach that trust, but also corporate executives."

The lawsuit charges Zuckerberg with violating D.C.'s Consumer Protection Act by not informing users about how their data was used. He said 852 D.C. consumers downloaded an app used to harvest their data during the Cambridge Analytica scandal. Because the app also tapped into the data of user's Facebook friends, Racine said it took personal information from more than half of all D.C. residents.

Racine is calling for a jury trial and for Zuckerberg to pay restitution and civil penalties for the alleged violations, among other things.

"This unprecedented security breach exposed tens of millions of Americans’ personal information, and Mr. Zuckerberg’s policies enabled a multi-year effort to mislead users about the extent of Facebook's wrongful conduct," he wrote in a press release.

The attorney general said the lawsuit will show corporate leaders that they "will be held accountable for their actions."

Facebook will likely move to dismiss the lawsuit, Politico reported.

Snapchat owner sends $190b shudder through Wall Street

Snap plunged 43 per cent, posting its biggest-ever one-day drop and dragging down social media peers, after the company cut its revenue and profit forecasts, blaming the weaker economic outlook for a sudden slowdown of its advertising business.

“We continue to face rising inflation and interest rates, supply chain shortages and labour disruptions, platform policy changes, the impact of the war in Ukraine, and more,” chief executive Officer Evan Spiegel said in a note to staff on Monday. The company will also slow hiring.

The gloomy forecast was a sharp pivot from the tone struck last month in Snap’s first-quarter earnings report, when the company beat projections for user growth and said it planned to keep investing through the economic headwinds to keep up its business momentum.

“The macroeconomic environment has deteriorated further and faster than anticipated,” Snap said late Monday in a filing. “As a result, we believe it is likely that we will report revenue and adjusted Ebitda below the low end of our Q2 2022 guidance range.” The company’s second-quarter revenue forecast, for 20 per cent to 25 per cent year-over-year growth, was already below analysts’ estimates.

Snap fell to $US12.79 at the close in New York on Tuesday, well below its initial public offering price of $US17 a share in 2017. The collapse in the stock spread to other internet and social networking stocks, with Meta falling 7.6 per cent, Google parent Alphabet slipping 5 per cent and Twitter dropping 5.6 per cent. In total, social media stocks shed more than $US135 billion ($190 billion) in market value following Snap’s dour forecast.

Snap had benefited from a surge in usage of its Snapchat app during the pandemic, when people were looking for entertainment and connection from their homes. Now, as people return to offices and schools, the company is reeling from the same combination of economic pressures that are also beleaguering its competitors.

“Enough is Enough!” – Kamala Harris Calls For Gun Control Following Deadly Mass Shooting at Texas Elementary School

Kamala Harris on Tuesday evening called for gun control after a teenager fatally shot at least 18 students and 1 adult at a Texas elementary school.

18 students and 1 adult were killed in a mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, Tuesday.

Texas Governor Abbott said the alleged shooter, 18-year-old Salvador Romas, a Uvalde resident, was killed by responding officers.

“Enough is enough. As a nation, we have to have the courage to take action!” Harris said. “And understand the nexus between what makes for reasonable and sensible public policy to entrust something like this never happens again.”

Joe Biden will address the nation on the deadly Texas school shooting upon his return to the White House from Japan Tuesday evening.

“Unfit for Leadership of this Country – I’m in Shock!” – Tucker Carlson GOES OFF on Joe Biden after His Grotesque, Partisan Speech Following Texas School Shooting

Joe Biden delivered a hateful, partisan, disgusting statement following the mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas.

Joe Biden: “Deer aren’t running through the forest with kevlar vest on, for God’s sake… Most Americans support common-sense gun laws… These kind of mass shootings rarely happen anywhere else in the world. These kinds of mass shootings rarely happen… Where in God’s name is our backbone… It’s time to turn the pain into action. It’s time to act… It’s time to let people know who block common-sense gun laws we won’t forget.

Following Joe Biden’s grotesque, partisan speech Tucker Carlson WENT OFF!

Tucker Carlson: “The President of the United States, frail, confused, bitterly partisan, desecrating on the memory of recently murdered children with tired talking points from the Democratic Party. Dividing the country in a moment of deep pain rather than uniting. His voice rising, amplified only as he is repeating the talking points from over 35 years in the United States Senate. Personal politics being the only thing that amplifies him. Unfit for leadership of this country… I’m in shock.”

Appeals Court Rules ‘Insurrectionist’ Members of Congress May be Barred from Office in Cawthorn Case

The US 4th Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday overturned a lower court judge’s decision and ruled ‘insurrectionist’ members of Congress may be barred from office.

A three-judge panel on the appeals court made the decision in a lawsuit against GOP North Carolina Congressman Madison Cawthorn.

Last week Madison Cawthorn lost a tight primary race in North Carolina after a relentless smear campaign.

But the Democrat-DC Swamp is still trying to destroy him and other ‘America First’ GOP members of Congress through lawfare.

Tuesday’s appeals court ruling legally binds only the states in the 4th circuit: Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina – however it could set a precedent for lawsuits against GOP lawmakers in other states.

The Democrats are trying to block Arizona Reps. Gosar and Biggs from running for re-election.

Democrat lawyers are also trying to block Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia from running for office again.

Bloomberg reported:

Candidates who take part in an insurrection may be barred from holding public office under the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution, a federal appeals court ruled, overturning a lower court judge’s decision.

The US 4th Circuit Court of Appeals issued the ruling Tuesday in a challenge to former North Carolina Representative Madison Cawthorn’s candidacy for the House of Representatives. Cawthorn lost his bid for a second term in the Republican primary race last week.

One is Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, who this month was cleared to run for re-election when a state judge concluded voters seeking to keep her off the ballot didn’t prove Greene supported an insurrection. The advocacy group that led the court challenge vowed to appeal in state court.

Circuit Judge Toby Heytens, nominated by President Joe Biden last year, framed the issue as whether legislation from 1872 lifted a “constitutional disqualification for all future rebels or insurrectionists, no matter their conduct.”

“To ask such a question is nearly to answer it,” Heytens wrote in Tuesday’s ruling. The 19th century law shielding candidates from the eligibility bar only applies to acts that occurred before it was enacted, he said.

The opinion from the Richmond, Virginia-based appeals court sends the case back to lower court in Raleigh, North Carolina, to be reconsidered.

Two other judges on the panel wrote concurring opinions: Julius N. Richardson, appointed by Trump, and James Wynn, appointed by Barack Obama.

Hollywood Celebrities Capitalize on Texas School Shooting: ‘F**k the GOP and Their Obsession with Guns’

Hollywood celebrities wasted little time capitalizing on the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, on Tuesday, urging voters and lawmakers to support more gun control while also blaming the shooting on Republicans and other supporters of Second Amendment rights.

Celebrities including Alyssa Milano, Rob Reiner, Elizabeth Banks, Bette Midler, Piper Perabo, and Stephen King all took advantage of the incident as a way to push familiar Democratic refrains.

“Fuck the GOP and their obsession with guns,” Milano tweeted.

“When you step into the voting booth this fall, VOTE GUN CONTROL,” King wrote.

“Lawmakers must act to restrict gun ownership in sensible ways. Action. Laws,” Perabo urged.

As Breitbart News reported, a shooter left 18 students one teacher and two more adults dead at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, on Tuesday. Authorities identified the shooter as Salvador Ramos, an 18-year-old male who resided in Uvalde. They said Ramos is now dead and is believed to have been killed by responding officers.

“Texans across the state are grieving for the victims of this senseless crime and for the community of Uvalde,” Gov. Gregg Abbott (R) said in a statement. “Cecilia and I mourn this horrific loss and we urge all Texans to come together to show our unwavering support to all who are suffering.”

Hollywood stars instead took advantage of the incident to score political points.

Actress Alyssa Milano blamed the shooting on Republicans, as did actor-director Rob Reiner.

CNN’s Wolf Blitzer: ‘Weapons of Mass Destruction’ Too Easy to Get

While covering the heinous attack on Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, on Tuesday, CNN’s Wolf Blitzer suggested “weapons of mass destruction” are too easy to get in America.

Blitzer was covering the school shooting and highlighting the gun control push Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) launched shortly after news of the shooting broke.

Blitzer then said, “Every time there is an incident like this you hear about efforts to deal with mentally unstable people who can certainly go out there and buy a weapon of mass destruction, go out there and buy a gun or rifle or some sort of assault-type weapon and go to there and eventually start killing wonderful, wonderful, people.”

The attack on Robb Elementary School occurred around 11:32 a.m, when an 18-year-old from Uvalde started shooting, Breitbart News reported.

“The suspected shooter…might have had a handgun and rifle,” NBC News noted.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) responded to news of the shooting by pushing gun control before basic facts about the attacker’s motive, how he got his gun(s), and whether he used one of the guns or both were even known.

Biden Calls for Action After Texas Shooting: ‘When Are We Gonna Stand Up to the Gun Lobby?’

Earlier on Tuesday, purported gunman Salvador Romas, 18, went into Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas, and shot to death at least 20 people, including 18 children, per the reports. The motives for what happened remain unclear.

US President Joe Biden addressed the nation on Tuesday following the horrific mass shooting in Texas, calling to finally challenge the gun lobby and enact some "common sense" gun control laws.

"As a nation, we have to ask, when in God's name are we gonna stand up to the gun lobby?" he said at a press conference from the White House. "The idea that an 18-year-old can walk into a gun store and buy two assault weapons - it's just wrong. What in god's name do you need it for except to kill someone?"

He expressed his grief by noting that when he assumed office in January 2021, Biden hoped that he "would not have to do this, again," meaning press conferences on such tragic incidents, such as the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, which happened almost ten years ago when he was Vice President in the Obama administration.

Biden went on to say that he is "sick and tired' of mass shootings and that the US must act now.

"It's time to turn this pain into action for every parent, for every citizen of this country. We have to make it clear to every elected official in this country: it's time to act," the president emphasized.

Then, the president, who just came back from a trip to South Korea and Japan, wondered why the US has most school shootings in the world.

"These kinds of mass shooting rarely happen anywhere else in the world. Why?" he asked rhetorically. "They have mental health problems. They have domestic disputes in other countries […] why are we willing to live with this carnage? […] it's time to turn this pain into action."

Biden, who has lost both a son and a daughter, was joined at the White House by first lady Jill Biden.

"Why are are willing to live with this carnage? Why do we keep letting this happen? Where in God's name is our backbone?'' Biden said, adding later, "to lose a child is like having a piece of your soul ripped away."
