The goal is not to repeal the second amendment - yet. Democrats know it won't be possible; the goal is to chip away at the public's emotions until they demand that the second amendment is repealed. They will keep creating new gun legisliation that doesn't hinder the second amendment, then new mass shootings will occur after each bill is signed into law proving that "gun legislation isn't working so we need to exmaine repealing the second amendment" because - as Joe Potato said: "the second amendment is not absolute".
