Just adding background that many may already know if familiar with Jesuits.
Part of the Jesuit rules of order, vows/promises, is that they can NOT be Pope. If found to be in the position that the Cardinals want them to serve in that role, they can but they can no longer be considered a Jesuit. I don't remember the name for it, the specific word, but effectively they are expected to resign from the Jesuit order. They are still a priest but no longer associated with Jesuits.
That was another red flag with Francis. He never stepped down from the order.
