Updated: 2:17 PM PDT May 26, 2022

Police have arrested the armed man who barricaded himself on the balcony of his apartment unit on San Pablo Avenue in Seaside.

According to police, the man fired at least two shots at Monterey County sheriff's deputies who were there to serve him an eviction notice around 9:30 a.m.

The deputies were not injured, police said.

The man, who investigators have not identified, barricaded himself on the balcony for nearly five hours and refused to come down.

Crisis negotiators were called in to talk to the man. The man surrendered peacefully around 1:45 p.m., according to the KSBW 8 crew on the scene.

The standoff triggered a shelter in place order for an area that stretched between La Salle Ave. and Echo Ave. and Fremont Blvd. and Noche Buena St. The area includes a mix of commercial and residential neighborhoods.
