EAST LOS ANGELES (KABC) – A suspect who fled after being involved in a shootout with a California Highway Patrol officer earlier this week has been arrested.
On Tuesday, a California Highway Patrol officer and L.A. County sheriff's deputies "came under fire" in what authorities described as an ambush in East Los Angeles.
The CHP officer was driving a patrol cruiser about 9 a.m. when he "came under fire" at the intersection of Third Street and Ford Boulevard, authorities said.
One of the suspects was shot and remains hospitalized, though his condition remains unknown. The second suspect fled the location, but was found on Thursday.
According to an update issued by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department on Friday, the second suspect - who was identified only as a Hispanic man - was taken into custody in Montebello.
His name wasn't released.
LASD deputies who were in the area were also shot at by the gunman, and they along with the Highway Patrol officer returned fire, Thomas said.
No law enforcement personnel were injured. A handgun was recovered at the scene, according to authorities.
Video from AIR7 HD showed the rear window of a Highway Patrol car was completely shattered.
Bystander video captured the moment a barrage of bullets were fired during the shooting.

Encompassing the land east of the Los Angeles River, East Los Angeles is a central historical area of the City that has for many years has been anchored by communities such as Boyle Heights and Lincoln Heights. This area was home to the Gabrielino Indians since the 1st Century, but the area fell to the hands of the Spanish in the late eighteenth century, with Mexican and American ranchers taking control of the land for much of the nineteenth century.
East Los Angeles became a popular immigrant destination during the early 1900s for Russians, Jews, Japanese, and Mexicans. Living east of the river and working in nearby factories, or traveling by electric rail into downtown Los Angeles, immigrants and their children helped fuel the prosperity of the growing City. By the onset of World War II, East Los Angeles was a nearly exclusively Latino community, soon reinforced by Mexican workers who arrived to man the machines in the area?s burgeoning war industries. Remnants of Jewish influence still remain in the form of street names and an old synagogue, but this primary Latino community is one of the most popular in the Country.
This area also includes the northern section of City Terrace. It is the largest Mexican-American community in the United States and home to over 1 million people in an area bigger than Manhattan or Washington D.C. Barrios west of Indiana are in Boyle Heights, which is actually part of the City of Los Angeles policed by the Hollenbeck division of the LAPD. The East Los Angeles area is policed by the LA County Sheriff’s Department.
