President Joe Biden's Education Secretary Michael Cardona said biological males should be able to compete against girls in school sports and that schools should not have to tell parents about their child's gender transition.

During a House Education and Labor Committee hearing on Thursday, Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) asked Cardona how his department could adhere to Title IX, which is meant to protect women and stop sex-based discrimination, while his agency is "currently pushing a rule to force every school in America to add 'non-binary' as a sex characteristic."

Cardona said the administration is not encouraging the non-binary category but is "allowing states to report whatever classifications they have in their states."

"Mr. Secretary, do you believe that biological male athletes competing in women's sports are in conflict with Title IX protections for female athletes?" Banks followed up.

Cardona responded that he wants to talk about the budget and he is "proud of the Title IX regulations."

When pressed further by Banks, the secretary responded, "I believe all children should have an opportunity to engage in extracurricular activities."

The Indiana Republican said the Biden administration has "decimated Title IX" and asked whether it is "fair or not for biological boys to compete against girls in sports."

"I believe all students should have access to sport[s]," Cardona replied, as the exchange heated up.

The United States has lost the advantage of deterrence when dealing with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and must keep in mind that "the world is watching" American actions overall, says former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

"People around the world see that if the American leaders can't be trusted, not just in the things that they say, but in the actions that they take," Pompeo said during an appearance on the "Just the News, Not Noise" television show.

Attention particularly is being directed toward America's actions and words regarding Russia, Pompeo said. Noting that Putin has made clear that his end game revolves around power, Pompeo stressed the importance of addressing the situation properly.

"This is about credibility," Pompeo said. "When the Trump administration spoke, we were careful, we were restrained. We didn't run around saying we were going to send the 82nd airborne or the 101st Airborne Division everywhere. But when we said we were going to do something, we committed to it, we lived up to it, our deeds matched our rhetoric, our words."

Under President Joe Biden, America has lost credibility, Pompeo suggested โ€” and with it, the ability to fend off aggressive behavior from other nations.

"We lost deterrence," Pompeo said. "And when you lose deterrence, it is a nightmare to get it back."

SILVER IN MEDICINE

Even before people fully understood how silver worked as an antibiotic, the metal was used to prevent the growth of dangerous germs. On long ocean voyages, for example, silver coins were dropped into water and wine casks to keep the liquids fresh. For decades, physicians placed several drops of silver nitrate into newbornsโ€™ eyes to prevent infection.

During World War I, battlefields wounds were wrapped in silver foil and silver sutures were used to close deep wounds.

More recently, silver coatings are being placed on medical devices such as breathing tubes and catheters to help fight infections. Itโ€™s also being applied to artificial bones and scaffolding used to keep bones in place while they mend. Silver is found in bandages and ointments because it keeps bacteria at bay, allowing the body to heal faster.

Silver has also been shown to be effective against bacteria that are becoming resistant because of the overuse of chemical antibiotics. For example, a life-threatening Staph germ called MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus), often referred to as a โ€œsuperbugโ€ and found in healthcare facilities, is resistant to almost all chemical antibiotics. To fight back, many facilities are employing silver-imbedded equipment including surgical tools, needles, stethoscopes, furniture, door handles, furniture, linens and even paper files.

Only during the past few years have scientist learned how silver works as a biocide. Silver ions can penetrate the cell walls of bacteria โ€“ without injuring mammalian cells โ€“ thus destroying the chemical and structural bonds essential for the bacteriaโ€™s survival and growth.
