Uvalde mayor defends local police, says Lt. Gov. Patrick’s claim that he was lied to is ‘not true’ Uvalde cancels meeting where controversial police chief was to join city council

May 30, 2022

"Uvalde School District police chief Pete Arredondo was the incident commander on scene who made the “wrong decision” not to immediately confront the suspect because he “believed that it had transitioned from an active shooter to a barricaded subject,” Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steven McCraw said. "

"School District Police ChiefPete Arredondo was elected to the council earlier this year — but has remained holed up in his homeunder police protection since he allegedly kept cops from entering a local elementary school for more than an hour last week while a teen shooter lay siege inside. Nineteen fourth-graders and two teachers ended up killed before the murderer was finally shot dead."

Ex-ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul slams Biden for not sending Ukraine missiles

May 30, 2022

"The US ambassador to Russia under President Obama slammed President Biden on Sunday for his refusal to provide Ukraine with an advanced missile system that can reach Moscow.

Ex-ambassador Michael McFaul, who is also an MSNBC analyst, called Biden’s approach “a losing strategy” when asked about a tweet he posted that said, “Not arming Ukraine prolongs the war.”

McFaul told MSNBC anchor Katy Tur that there were tense debates within the Biden administration regarding how to proceed with the deadly conflict.

He suggested signing a formal agreement with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to send more weapons as long as Ukraine pledges not to use them in Russia."

McFaul is currently the Ken Olivier and Angela Nomellini Professor in International Studies in the Department of Political Science atStanford University, where he is the Director of the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies. He is also aPeter and Helen Bing Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution.[2][3][4][5] He is also a contributing columnist at The Washington Post.[6] Prior to his nomination to the ambassadorial position, McFaul worked for the U.S. National Security Council as Special Assistant to the President and senior director of Russian and Eurasian affairs.[7] In that capacity,he was the architect of U.S. President Barack Obama's Russian reset policy.

On July 17, 2018, the Prosecutor General of Russia announced that it was seeking to question McFaul, amongst other Americans, in relation to its investigation of allegations made against Bill Browder.[25][26] This followed a request Vladimir Putin made to President Donald Trump during the summit in Helsinki. In a White House news conference two days later, Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Trump described Putin's suggestion as an "interesting idea" and Trump "wants to work with his team and determine if there is any validity that would be helpful to the process".[27][28] On July 19, shortly before the Senate was to vote on a resolution opposing the idea, Sanders stated that Trump "disagrees" with the Putin proposal.[29] The Senate approved the non-binding "sense of the Senate" resolution on a 98–0 vote; it stated that no current or former diplomat or other government employee should be made available to the Russians for interrogation.[30]

Pelosi challenger Shahid Buttar rips ‘corrupt oligarch’ House speaker after hubby’s DUI

May 30, 2022

"Aleft-wing Democratchallenging House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in the June 7 California House primary blasted the longtime lawmaker Monday as a “corrupt oligarch” who only caters to elites after Pelosi’s husband was busted for alleged drunk driving near the couple’s $5 million Napa Valley vineyard.

“More people are coming to recognize the corruption of the incumbent, which is ultimately why I ran,” Shahid Buttar — who is running to unseat the 18-term Democrat in California’s 12th District — told The Post in an interview.

“You know, I’m not a politician. I’m an accountability agent,” the civil liberties attorney added.

Buttar, one of three Democrats running against Pelosi in the primary, spoke out fewer than 48 hours after 82-year-old Paul Pelosi was charged with one count of driving under the influence and another of driving with a blood alcohol content level of 0.08 or higher after crashing his 2021 Porsche, according to police documents"

“As important as it is to prosecute drunk driving, the Pelosi family’s continuing history of insider trading — and Nancy’s refusal to debate any challengers since 1987 — are frankly even more scandalous,” Buttar alleged.

Nancy and Paul Pelosi’s stock trades have come under significant scrutiny the past year.

In December, the speaker disclosed that the couple had scooped up millions in bullish call options for stocks including Google, Salesforce, Micron Technology and Roblox. At the same time, insiders told The Post, she slow-walked efforts to rein in Big Tech. That month, Pelosi defended the right of lawmakers to get rich from the market, telling reporters, “We are a free market economy. They should be able to participate in that.”

Then in March, Paul Pelosi bought $2.2 million in Tesla stock even as some in Congress proposed banning lawmakers and their spouses from stock trading.

Critics on both sides of the aisle think trades like Pelosi’s present a conflict of interest, given that she and other lawmakers have access to sensitive information and are responsible for enacting laws regulating businesses.

The Pelosis are estimated to be worth well north of $100 million, and Paul Pelosi owns tens of millions in stocks and options. The Speaker does not own stock herself.

Jan. 6 rioter with ‘Hitler mustache’ claims ignorance about Capitol, convicted anyway

May 30, 2022

"The Jan. 6 rioter who openly wore a “Hitler mustache” to his job at a Navy base was convicted on all counts Friday after testifying that he didn’t know Congress met inside the Capitol — and blamed his ignorance on growing up in New Jersey.

Timothy Hale-Cusanelli made the astounding claim after taking the witness stand in his own defense at his trial in Washington, DC, federal court last week.

“I know this sounds idiotic, but I’m from New Jersey,” Hale-Cusanelli said, according to WUSA-TV.

“In all my studies, I didn’t know there was an actual building that was called the ‘Capitol.’It’s embarrassing and idiotic.”

Following the verdict, federal Judge Trevor McFadden called the testimony “highly dubious” and suggested he’d consider imposing a tougher sentence because of it.

Hale-Cusanelli held a “secret” security clearance to work at Naval Weapons Station Earle in Colts Neck, NJ, and served as an Army reservist before his arrest for storming the Capitol to disrupt the certification of President Joe Biden’s electoral victory over former President Donald Trump."

He was caught on camera shouting profanities at cops and screaming, “The revolution will be televised!

Prosecution court papers also portrayed him as a white supremacist and Nazi sympathizer who dreams of a second American civil war, and whose cellphone held photos of him sporting an Adolf Hitler-style mustache and haircut while smirking for the camera on the job in April 2020 and also while scowling and holding his hand over his heart.

McFadden barred prosecutors from using the photos as evidence, but jurors learned about text messages in which Hale-Cusanelli told his friends how the 2020 election results could be overturned and made racist, anti-Semitic and homophobic slurs against Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and other Democrats."

"Jurors also saw a video of him attempting to wave other rioters inside the Capitol through a skylight and heard an incriminating, post-riot conversation secretly recorded by his NWS Earle roommate, who reported him to the Naval Criminal Investigation Service.

During his testimony, Hale-Cusanelli identified himself as half-Jewish and half-Puerto Rican, and defense lawyer Jonathan Crisp described him as someone who made “extreme statements to get attention.”"
