40% chance of rain enters San Francisco forecast due to unusual June storm
Sunny skies will bring warm weather to the San Francisco Bay Area through the first half of the work week, but a significant shift is expected as the weekend approaches, with temperatures cooling and a chance of light rain entering the forecast.
The rain is likely to be extremely light and focused over the North Bay, but Brian Garcia, a forecaster with the National Weather Service, said any precipitation is helpful with peak wildfire season around the corner.
"This is really good if we can squeeze this out," said Garcia, who works out of the weather service's Bay Area office. "It would continue to blunt the tip of the fire season for North Bay."
With high pressure over the region, warm weather is forecast Tuesday and Wednesday. Tomorrow will be the hottest day of the week, with afternoon highs in the high 80s in inland areas and coastal locations in the high 60s.
Temperatures are expected to slowly cool back to near normal Thursday and Friday, with afternoon highs in inland locations dropping into the low 80s to high 70s. More cooling is expected through the weekend as a storm system off the coast of British Columbia will cause the ridge of high pressure to weaken and allow a couple of weak fronts to push into Northern California.
The highest chance for rain in the San Francisco Bay Area is overnight Saturday into Sunday, Garcia said. The North Bay has a 50% chance of precipitation, the highest in the region.
