Compton Election Results Overturned Due To Voter Fraud – Councilman Rigged the Votes

Last Friday, A Compton city council election was overturned after a judge ruled that the incumbent councilman rigged votes to secure his victory.

Councilman Isaac Galvan will be replaced by his challenger Andre Spicer. Superior Court Judge Michelle Williams Court determined that four of the votes cast for Galvan during a June 2021 runoff election were submitted by people who were not legal residents of the district.

The judge ruled that his challenger Spicer was the winner, with a verified vote count of 854 to Galvan’s 851.

Spicer has contested the results of the election for the last year after losing to Galvan by just a single vote. Spicer told NBC LA that he is pleased with last week’s ruling.

“I’m grateful to the judicial system,” said Spicer. He told the outlet that he had “been fighting hard for -for the last 11 months.”

Spicer said there had been rumors of voter fraud for years in Compton. He noted that he was concerned the community had lost faith in the voting system.

“I think this helps to get us engaged again,” he said. “It’s just a relief for the entire city to expose it, and hopefully, rid ourselves of it.”

It was not immediately clear how soon the judge’s decision would allow Spicer to take office.

The ruling comes after the LA County District Attorney’s Office charged Galvan and five others with conspiracy to commit election fraud last August. Despite living outside the district, the four others charged are accused of registering and casting votes in Compton.

Prosecutors also charged Galvan with bribery with the intent to influence an election for allegedly attempting to bribe an LA Country registrar employee on election night.

Galvan has been embroiled in several controversies since he first took office in 2013, including illegal practices surrounding marijuana, conspiracy against the mayor, and staff members who are entangled in a murder case.

Insanity: California State Senate Passes Bill that Ends Mandatory Reporting of Threats Made by Students

The California State Senate on Thursday passed a bill that ends mandatory reporting on students who threaten violence against the school to law enforcement. According to the language of the bill endorsed by the ACLU, “once students make contact with law enforcement, they are less likely to graduate high school and more likely to wind up in jail or prison.”

The law was authored by Senator Steve Bradford and was endorsed by ACLU California Action calling it a win for racial equality.

The co-sponsors are: Alliance for Boys and Men of Color, ACLU California Action, Black Organizing Project, Black Parallel School Board, Coleman Advocates for Children and Youth, Disability Rights California, Dolores Huerta Foundation, East Bay Community Law Center, PolicyLink, and Public Counsel.

SB 1273 also called “Eliminating Law Enforcement Mandate in Schools” would repeal the existing law that “whenever any employee of a school district or county superintendent of schools is attacked, assaulted, or physically threatened by any pupil, the employee and any person under whose direction or supervision the employee is employed who has knowledge of the incident are required to promptly report the incident to specified law enforcement authorities.”

More from far-left ACLU:

Decades of research show the long-term harm to young people of even minimal contact with the juvenile or criminal legal systems. Once students make contact with law enforcement, they are less likely to graduate high school and more likely to wind up in jail or prison. These harms fall disproportionately on students from marginalized groups: Black, Indigenous, and Latinx students, as well as students with disabilities, are disproportionately referred to law enforcement, cited, and arrested.

SB 1273 (Bradford) empowers educators, protects students, and restores educator discretion by:

Eliminating state mandates for school notification of law enforcement of many types of incidents, thereby empowering schools to adopt non-punitive, supportive, trauma-informed and health-based approaches to school related behaviors.

Increasing educator discretion in determining when to notify law enforcement about a student’s school related behaviors.

Eliminating prosecution of school staff who fail to report incidents of alleged assaults or physical threats against school employees.

Eliminating the criminal penalty for students for the “willful disturbance” of public schools and public school meetings.

By restoring flexibility to educators to decide when law enforcement should be notified, SB 1273 will protect students from unnecessary contact with the criminal legal system, decrease school related law enforcement referrals and arrests, and keep students in school.

Uvalde ISD Police Chief Stops Cooperating, Sworn In As City Council Member Days After Botched Shooting Response

Uvalde school district police chief Pete Arredondo has stopped cooperating with state investigators and has stopped responding to requests for information for several days, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Arredondo was in command during last week's mass shooting that left 19 fourth-graders and two teachers dead, and has received harsh criticism for ordering officers not to breach the classroom and neutralize the 18-year-old gunman Salvador Ramos for over an hour because Arredondo "believed that it had transitioned from an active shooter to a barricaded subject" and that children were not at risk.

The Texas Tribune reports that Texas Rangers have attempted to continue talking to Arredondo, chief of police for the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District, however he hasn't answered a request made three days ago for a follow-up interview, according to two spokespeople for DPS.

The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District’s police department and the Uvalde Police Department have otherwise been cooperating with the Rangers’ investigation, DPS spokesperson Travis Considine said.

Amid the turmoil, Texas’ largest police union — the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas, or CLEAT — urged its members Tuesday in a statement to “cooperate fully” with investigations into the police response to the Uvalde massacre — though they didn’t name Arredondo. -Texas Tribune

The news comes as Arredondo, 50, was quietly sworn in as a city council member Tuesday night after being elected earlier this month before the shooting.

Europol Warns Weapons Shipped To Ukraine Could Be Used By "Criminal Groups" For Years

In a weekend German media interview the head of the European police agency Europol has issued a dire warning about the huge amount of weapons being pumped from the West into Ukraine.

Europol Director Catherine De Bolle told the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag that the flood of weapons on the Ukraine-Russia battlefield could end up in the hands of criminal groups for years to come. "At some point the war will be over. We want to avoid a situation like the one that followed the war in the Balkans 30 years ago," she said to the publication in reference to conflicts in the wake of Yugoslavia's collapse.

"The weapons from this war are still being used by criminal groups today," De Bolle emphasized in speaking of Balkan conflicts, and what's looking to be a similar situation emerging in Ukraine.

"The situation is highly dynamic and fragmented and we're receiving different figures from our European partners," De Bolle said. She stressed that in response her agency is seeking to "find a way in which we will deal with the situation after a possible end to the war." She described that this will involve Europol "assembling an international task force that will address this issue."

The Ukraine conflict has attracted a reported tens of thousands of foreign volunteers after the government in Kiev established a foreign legion. This has also included American and British military veterans and mercenaries. On this, she explained as cited in Deutsche Welle:

People traveling to Ukraine have different experiences and ideologies. But she said that even those who become disillusioned by the violence they witness there will be under observation.

Russia, for its part, has long highlighted far-right and neo-Nazi groups and the danger of arming them. Azov Battalion in particular had been on the front lines in what is now Russian-controlled Mariupol, and is believed to be a main Ukrainian fighting force in Donbass.

The Kremlin has especially complained about Stinger missiles from the US flooding the Ukrainian battlefield. Stingers don't only pose a severe threat to military aircraft, but to civilian aviation as well.

Brooklyn subway shooting victim sues Glock for ‘recklessly’ marketing guns

A victim of the Brooklyn subway shooting that injured 29 has sued gun maker Glock after one of their firearms was allegedly used in the attack, new court papers show.

Ilene Steur, 49, was shot once when accused gunman Frank James shot off 33 bullets onboard a Manhattan-bound N train in Sunset Park on April 12.

James, 62, allegedly used a Glock 17 9mm gun he bought from an Ohio pawn shop when he shot 10 people. Another 19 were injured during the melee.

Steur – of Brooklyn – claims that Glock has contributed to gun violence through marketing and sales including pushing for its weapons to be in movies and rap music, advertising their high capacity and easy to conceal firearms and flooding the market with guns so that they overflow into illegal secondary markets, the Brooklyn Federal court lawsuit from Tuesday alleges.

Glock also doesn’t train dealers to avoid straw sales — when someone buys a gun for another person — and other illegal transactions and it refuses to end contracts with distributors whose guns frequently are linked to crime scenes, the filing claims.

“The defendants select and develop distribution channels they know regularly provide guns to purchasers with a criminal intent, such as James,” the court papers allege.

And Glock knows that their guns allows people to “inflict unparalleled civilian carnage,” the suit claims.

Steur is asking a judge to stop Glock from continuing its “unlawful marketing and distribution practices,” the filing says. She is also seeking unspecified damages for her injuries.

“This lawsuit seeks to hold the gun industry accountable for recklessly marketing their guns in a fashion that unreasonably creates a public nuisance,” Steur’s lawyer said in a statement.

Russia Holds Nuclear Forces Drill As Biden Unveils $700M More In Arms For Ukraine

Russia's nuclear forces have launched fresh drills northeast of Moscow, in the Ivanovo province, according to new Russian defense ministry statements Wednesday.

Reuters cited Interfax news agency to report that "Some 1,000 servicemen are exercising in intense maneuvers using over 100 vehicles including Yars intercontinental ballistic missile launchers," based on the Russian MoD statement.

Some Western media reports are seeing the drill as a response and warning to Washington over the White House approving yet more military aid and weapons to Ukraine, particularly longer range rockets.

Newsweek, for example, writes that "The report follows the announcement that the U.S. has approved a $700m package of security assistance to be sent to Kyiv, which will include helicopters, anti-tank weapon systems and medium-range high mobility artillery rocket systems."

The Kremlin is meanwhile issuing new warnings over the US violating its stated "red lines"…

RUSSIAN FOREIGN MINISTER LAVROV SAYS THERE ARE RISKS THAT A THIRD COUNTRY COULD BECOME INVOLVED IN UKRAINE CONFLICT DUE TO SUPPLIES OF ROCKET LAUNCHERS

Lavrov Accuses Ukraine Of Drawing Outside Countries Into War - US Missiles A 'Direct Provocation'

In some of the Kremlin's strongest words yet denouncing Western arms shipments, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned Ukraine that newly ramped up arms transfers including US missile systems being sent to Kiev risks drawing a third country into the war.

In the Wednesday statements, he accused Ukraine of seeking to involve outside countries, and slammed the missile transfer as marking a 'direct provocation'. His words come on the heels of Biden on Tuesday night announcing longer range missile systems for Ukraine, which however likely can't reach Russian territory, given they are short to "medium range" systems. Moscow previously called the White House's expressed desire to avoid direct confrontation with Russia a "rational" policy.

The blistering attack also seemed aimed a Germany, which just announced new anti-air radar and defense systems for Ukraine:

Germany will supply Ukraine with the IRIS-T modern air defence and radar systems, Chancellor Olaf Scholz has said, stepping up arms deliveries amid criticism that Berlin is not doing enough to help Kyiv in its fight against Russia.

“The government has decided that we will send the IRIS-T system – the most modern system that Germany currently possesses,” the German chancellor told parliament.

In separate statements on the same day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Russia "does not believe Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s claims that Kiev will not attack Russian territory, should it obtain US-made long-range multiple launch rocket systems."

Already there have been multiple cross-border incidents in which Russian towns or villages were shelled. According to TASS, Peskov said:

"No," the spokesman said, answering a question whether the Kremlin trusts Zelensky’s words. "In order to trust, there must be previous experience when such promises were fulfilled. Unfortunately, such experience is completely nonexistent," Peskov explained.

"On the contrary, the entire history of events proves that, starting with Zelensky’s main campaign promise to end the war in Ukraine’s southeast once and for all, [the promise] was not fulfilled, and the Minsk Agreements were not implemented, they sunk into oblivion, and by Ukraine’s fault at that," the spokesman pointed out.

"So we don’t really have any trust credit for the Ukrainian side," he emphasized in follow-up.

Russia is now warning of 'worst case scenarios' regarding the missile transfer…

Turkey accuses NATO members of supporting terrorism

Recep Tayyip Erdogan claims Germany and France are among states supporting terrorists

Finland and Sweden aren’t the only countries in Europe that support terrorists, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has claimed during an address to parliament on Wednesday.

The Turkish leader accused France, Germany and the Netherlands of aiding organizations that are deemed by Ankara to be terrorists, such as the Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) and FETO, which is suspected of attempting a coup in Turkey in 2016.

Commenting on the possibility of Finland and Sweden joining NATO, Erdogan stated that the bloc is “a security organization, not a support for terrorist organizations,” adding that there are other NATO members guilty of aiding extremists.

“They protect these terrorist organizations together with the police of Sweden, Finland, Germany, France and the Netherlands,” said Erdogan, apparently referring to the recent PKK ‘Long March’ demonstrations that have been taking place in those countries.

Yesterday, Turkey’s Foreign Ministry officially summoned the ambassadors from Germany and France to hand them a note of protest for allowing the PKK’s unhindered activity in their countries.

“How can Turkey approve of Swedish, and Finnish NATO bids, given that terror affiliates freely roam, hold rallies there?” asked Erdogan, adding that Ankara has still not received any indication or any written guarantee from the two Nordic countries that they will fulfill any of Turkey’s demands.

He also accused the two countries of trying to manipulate public perception of the PKK group by changing the spelling of the organization and rebranding it as the PYD/YPG. Erdogan insisted that these countries were only fooling themselves.

Finland and Sweden both decided to break with their history of neutrality on May 15, citing Russia’s military offensive against Ukraine as motivation for them to join NATO. Their membership bids were welcomed by Washington and its European NATO allies, however, Turkey and Croatia have threatened to obstruct the applications unless their national security concerns are addressed.

Ankara has demanded that both Sweden and Finland immediately cease support for what it describes as an anti-Turkish terrorist organization, and extradite their members to face trial. It also demands the lifting of sanctions that the two Nordic countries have imposed on it.

President Erdogan has insisted that unless these conditions are fulfilled there is no way that Ankara will give the green light for the two countries to join the US-led military alliance. On Sunday, he even stated that as long as he is the president of Turkey, he will never allow a nation supporting terrorism to joint NATO.

Director Cary Fukunaga accused of ‘grooming’ on sets: ‘He needs to be stopped’

Anonymous sources from the production of the upcoming AppleTV+ miniseries “Masters of the Air” told Rolling Stone that the director has engaged in “absolute, clear-cut abuse of power” when interacting with young female actors and crew members.

His goal, they alleged, is to engage in romantic relationships. One unidentified woman who reportedly dated him after they met on set said a “heavy weight” was “lifted” after they parted ways, according to Rolling Stone. “When I thought about him, I just wanted to vomit,” she said.

The 44-year-old “True Detective” director’s attorney, Michael Plonsker, denied the claims to Rolling Stone, saying in a statement: “There is nothing salacious about pursuing friendships or consensual romantic relationships with women.”

He also noted that “no one ever — not once — voiced such sentiments” of the claims to Fukunaga.

“He creates a work environment that is creative, collaborative and welcoming to all,” Plonsker added in the statement.

The Post has reached out for comment from Fukunaga’s representatives, as well as Apple TV+.

The accusations come after 23-year-old actress and skateboarder Rachelle Vinberg recently alleged on Instagram that Fukunaga groomed her when he approached her at a skate park and asked her to audition for a Samsung commercial he was directing. She was 18 at the time, according to Rolling Stone.

Plonsker released a statement, saying Fukunaga “had a very brief and consensual romantic relationship with [Vinberg] that has ended” and suggested the skateboarder “clearly was not happy” with him since the split.

“I spent years being scared of him,” Vinberg captioned a selfie with Vinberg on Instagram. “Man’s a groomer and has been doing this s–t for years. Beware, women.”

Pentagon reports high levels of ‘forever chemicals’ in drinking water near bases

The Defense Department is reporting high levels of toxic perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in drinking water near several of its bases, according to new data released by the department.

Drinking water testing near bases in Washington state, Pennsylvania, Florida and Michigan found levels of the chemicals well above a health threshold set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

PFAS is the name for a group of thousands of chemicals, some of which have been linked to health issues such as kidney and testicular cancer and liver damage.

The substances have been used in products such as firefighting foam, which is used by the military. For this reason, PFAS can be found near military bases and can contaminate nearby water.

They are often referred to as “forever chemicals” because they build up in the human body and environment instead of breaking down over time.

While it has long been known that PFAS have leached into groundwater near military installations, the new data provides an official glimpse into how it is impacting nearby drinking water.

While the EPA has said that levels of two types of PFAS called PFOA and PFOS should not exceed 70 parts per trillion (ppt) — and states have called for even lower levels — findings at some of the bases far exceed that.

One assessment from October found a sample of drinking water near the Naval Air Station at Washington State’s Whidbey Island contained 4,720 ppt of PFOS. In September, a sample containing 208 ppt of PFOA was detected.

Meanwhile, a drinking water sample near Washington state’s Joint Base Lewis-McChord Yakima Training Center was found to have 800 ppt of PFOS in January. A separate sample from January at the base was found to have 130 ppt of PFOA.

A sample from near Pennsylvania’s Willow Grove base was found to have 864 ppt of PFOS in October.

Meanwhile an August sample from around Florida’s Naval Air Station Whiting Field was found to have 206 ppt of PFOA in August. A sample from December was found to have 130 ppt of PFOS.

A November sample from Michigan’s Camp Grayling Army Airfield was found to have 119 ppt of PFOA.

“These levels are extremely high,” Jared Hayes, policy analyst at the Environmental Working Group, said in a statement.

Supreme Court pauses counting of challenged Pennsylvania mail-in ballots

The temporary block could impact the ongoing GOP Senate primary battle between David McCormick and Dr. Mehmet Oz.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday paused the count of some mail-in ballots that could impact the Pennsylvania Senate GOP primary race.

The order temporarily blocks a lower court's ruling that instructed election officials to count mail-in ballots that arrived on time but were undated.

The dispute in involves a contested 2021 judicial election but may have a broader impact on the state's ongoing Senate GOP primary between one-time TV doctor Mehmet Oz and former hedgefunder David McCormick.

The primary battle headed to an automatic recount last week after tallies showed Oz leading McCormick by fewer than 1,000 votes. McCormick's campaign, meanwhile, filed a suit asking the state court to order that approximately 860 mail-in ballots with missing handwritten dates be counted.

The high court's Tuesday order came from Justice Samuel Alito, who handles emergency issues out of Pennsylvania. He issued an administrative stay, which will allow the court a limited amount of additional time to consider the case.

The court's decision effectively halts a decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, which, last week, ruled that the undated mail-in ballots should be counted.

Former Louvre director charged with money laundering and antiquities trafficking

A scandal ripped through the halls of Paris’ most famous museum when authorities charged the former director of the Louvre with money laundering and organized fraud in connection to antiquities trafficking.

This prompted the art museum to launch on Monday a civil action so that it could take part in the investigation as a civil party.

“The Musée du Louvre would like to emphasize the utmost, unwavering and ongoing commitment of its scientific experts in the struggle against illicit artwork trafficking,” the museum said in a statement. “The work accomplished at both a national and an international level remains a priority in order to thwart ever more active and increasingly organized crime.”

Jean-Luc Martinez, who, after his tenure at the Louvre ended in 2021, became France’s special ambassador for cooperation on cultural heritage and is accused of overseeing the Louvre Abu Dhabi’s acquisition of smuggled Egyptian antiquities.

The piece in question was a pink granite stele, depicting pharaoh Tutankhamun – aka King Tut – purchased for over U.S. $9 million in 2016, according to f24news.

Roben Dib, the German-Lebanese art dealer who helped broker the sale was arrested in Germany, and extradited to Paris in March.

According to the Art Newspaper, Martinez is accused of dismissing out-of-hand concerns of smuggling from egyptologists.

The stele was sold to the Louvre Abu Dhabi by Christophe Kunicki, an art dealer who has since been charged with widespread trafficking of looted antiquities.

Mathew Bagdnanos, head of the Manhattan District Attorney's anti-antiquities trafficking unit, has said that Kunicki and Dib constitute “an international antiquities trafficking ring,” the Art newspaper reported.

The Louvre is far from the only museum to be accused of involvement in antiquities trafficking.

Israel Is Back in the Gas Business. Thanks, Putin

Out goes climate change, in comes fill’er-up: Energy Minister Karine Elharrar abruptly reverses Israel’s freeze on oil and gas exploration

I have to admit that when Energy Minister Karine Elharrar makes a U-turn, she does so with incredible finesse.

Just six months ago Elharrar had ordered a one-year freeze on new exploration for natural gas in Israeli waters in order to focus the ministry’s efforts on renewables. Fears of climate change and gas’ contribution to it were behind the decision, and many assumed the suspension would become permanent. On Monday, however, Elharrar announced she had approved a new auction for gas exploration licenses.

If your entire knowledge of the issue was confined to the official press statement, you wouldn’t know she had just changed direction at all.

Elharrar never mentioned that she ordered a freeze; nor did she engage in the “drill, baby, drill” ranting of fossil fuel enthusiasts. Rather, Elharrar spoke about a “genuine and sincere concern about the events taking place in Europe,” Israel’s “energy security” and of “diversification of our sources of energy” and tipped her hat to “investment in renewable energies.”

So what caused Elharrar to change mind so quickly? The answer, of course, is the war in Ukraine, which has upended global energy markets and caused the world to reconsider all the energy calculations it had made prior to February 24, including the urgency of saving the planet from climate change apocalypse.

For Israel, the relevant part of all this upheaval is that Europe is determined to wean itself off Russian gas and oil. But to do that, it has to find alternative sources, and there aren’t a whole lot of them.

Israel isn’t going to save Europe with its gas any more than it can save Ukraine with Iron Dome or by impounding oligarch’s yachts. But Israel can be helpful to Europe, in partnership with the other East Mediterranean gas producers, Egypt and Cyprus.

For its part, the European Union is interested: Within a couple of weeks of the Russian invasion, Elharrar was meeting with EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson. The idea is to establish a political framework to provide official backing to the private-sector Israeli-Egyptian gas exporters that will actually will make the deals.
