Iranian scientist found dead in unclear circumstances — reports

Ayoob Entezari said to have worked on developing missiles, drones at R&D center before dying this week, with some saying food poisoning was the cause

A scientist died in Iran this week under mysterious circumstances, according to Iranian reports cited by Hebrew media on Saturday.

Ayoob Entezari, who held a PhD in aerospace engineering from Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, died on Tuesday, the reports said.

He was reportedly employed at a research and development center in the city of Yazd, where he worked on developing missiles and drones.

Some reports said Entezari died of food poisoning.

The reports came a day after Iran announced the death of another colonel from the elite Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the second in two weeks from the unit which oversees Iran’s military operations abroad.

Quoting an unknown official, the early morning report by the official IRNA news agency said Col. Ali Esmailzadeh died during an “incident in his residence” days ago in the city of Karaj, some 35 kilometers (19 miles) northwest of the capital Tehran.

It did not elaborate but denied reports that the colonel was assassinated.

In May, two unidentified gunmen on a motorbike shot Col. Hassan Sayyad Khodaei five times in a car in front of his residence in Tehran. Iran blamed his slaying on Israel. Iran often blames Israel for such targeted killings, including those on nuclear scientists over the past years.

Iran International claimed that Esmailzadeh was killed over suspicions he provided information to Iran’s enemies that was used in Khodaei’s assassination.

The report said he was close to Khodaei, who was gunned down in Tehran on May 22. Both he and Esmailzadeh were members of the IRGC’s so-called Unit 840, a shadowy division within the IRGC’s expeditionary Quds Force that carries out kidnappings and assassinations outside of Iran.

The report said that after Khodaei’s killing, the IRGC began hunting for security leaks and became suspicious of Esmailzadeh. He was then thrown from his roof, but the IRGC told his family he died by suicide because he was distraught over his separation from his wife, Iran International said, citing “sources in Iran.”

False QAnon Conspiracies Keep Emerging in Politics: What to Watch Out For

What's happening

Even with Donald Trump not in office, QAnon beliefs continue to infect politics.

Why it matters

The debunked conspiracy will be in play during the upcoming midterm elections, but that doesn't mean you have to fall for it.

QAnon, a fringe right-wing conspiracy theory centered on former President Donald Trump, didn't fade away when he left office. Instead, belief in the wild conspiracy persists and continues to play a part in the political discourse, whether Americans realize it or not.

The QAnon conspiracy, which first surfaced in October 2017, falsely purports that Trump was fighting a hidden war against a cabal of Satanist pedophiles in Hollywood and the Democratic Party. The nonpartisan Public Religion Research Institute a nonprofit that researches the intersection of religion, culture and public policy released a study in February showing that nearly 16% of Americans believe the core QAnon conspiracy.

"QAnon has evolved from a movement centered around Trump leading a secret military intelligence operation to save the world, into a movement that not only doesn't need Trump but doesn't even need the iconography it developed over the past four years," said Mike Rothschild, conspiracy researcher and author of The Storm Is Upon Us, which provides a history of the QAnon conspiracy theory.

Conspiracy theories can be dangerous and even deadly as seen during the COVID-19 pandemic, with vaccine misinformation playing a role in some people succumbing to the virus. Despite being repeatedly debunked, belief in the QAnon conspiracy continues to infect areas of politics beyond Trump. So far this year, aspects of the conspiracy have seeped into protests, a Supreme Court hearing and legislation.

"Its mythology of secret pedophile rings suppressed cures and technology, massive corruption and fraud propelling a [purportedly] decrepit Joe Biden into office, and COVID being a hoax, have infected every aspect of mainstream conservative politics and culture," Rothschild added.

With the midterm elections coming up, the conspiracy is likely to continue popping up in campaigns and on social media feeds. Being able to recognize its influence may make it easier to spot, and avoid, in the future.

Here are some of the current events that the QAnon conspiracy has latched onto, some obvious and others less so.

Inside Daniel Andrews' new 'Big Brother' style data agency he tried to keep secret as it watches EVERY move of Victorians from how they spend their money to personal health records

Victorian Premier Dan Andrews set up high-tech data agency during Covid-19

Insights Victoria uses both publicly available data and 'sensitive' information

Opposition Treasury spokesman David Davis said it was 'intrusive'

Insights Victoria looked at how residents spent their money and social media

Victorians are being monitored by a new secretive government agency which collates sensitive and private data and reports directly to Premier Daniel Andrews.

The high-tech data agency was set up in August, 2020 during the Covid pandemic but will continue operating in a move the opposition says is deeply disturbing.

Insights Victoria looked at how residents spent their money, their social media presence and physical and mental health.

The agency reportedly received $4.4million in the latest Victorian state government budget and will continue report to the premier, the Sunday Herald Sun reported.

It's understood the agency uses publicly available information as well as 'sensitive' data that is updated seven days a week.

Opposition Treasury spokesman David Davis compared the system to a 'dystopian society'.

'In the new Insights Victoria with his intrusive and powerful deep dive IT system, monitoring Victorians every digital move, cross tabulating their personal information, Andrews has more power than Big Brother,' Mr Davis said.

Wichita police arrested 17 people for aggravated human trafficking, human trafficking, promoting the sale of sex and buying sex as a part of an anti-child sexual exploitation operation codenamed “Operation Blue Ghost.”

The Wichita Police Department (WPD) arrested 17 people as a part of an anti-child sexual exploitation operation codenamed “Operation Blue Ghost” from May 17 through June 2. The operation was in partnership with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and other law enforcement partners.

Ex-Honolulu police officer accused of child sex crimes

A man has been arrested for sexually exploiting children while working as a Honolulu police officer, U.S. prosecutors alleged in an indictment.

Mason Jordan, 31, used a hidden camera to record sexually explicit videos of a child and then impersonated that child on social media to recruit other children to work for him as underage prostitutes, according to the indictment.

Jordan was arrested in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Thursday on charges of sexual exploitation of a child, coercion and enticement of a minor to engage in prostitution, sex trafficking of a child and cyberstalking.

It’s not clear who his attorney is.

Prosecutors also accuse Jordan of cyberstalking a woman he met while he was a police officer. He threatened to circulate nude photos taken of her as a child to her family, co-workers and friends if she didn’t send him new nude photographs, prosecutors said.

“Jordan has been a hands-on sexual offender of multiple children for over nearly half a decade,” prosecutors said in a motion Friday asking that he be detained without bail.

“His crimes were not opportunistic. Rather, they were part of a years-long premeditated scheme to gain access to, and the trust of, extremely vulnerable children so that he could assault them,” the motion said.

According to the Honolulu Police Department, Jordan was hired in November 2013, and resigned in March 2021.

The crimes allegedly took place between 2016 and 2020.

Ukrainian military shells residential areas (VIDEOS)

The attack targeted central Donetsk

The capital city of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) was subjected to heavy shelling by the Ukrainian military late on Saturday. Multiple districts of Donetsk came under almost simultaneous attack by the Kiev forces, which used howitzers and rocket artillery to target the city.

The city was hit by more than 40 rockets launched from BM-21 Grad systems, as well as by multiple 122mm artillery shells, according to local authorities. Footage from the scene shows the munitions exploding in residential areas of the city.

The attack inflicted damage on residential buildings and power lines, sparking fires and setting multiple cars ablaze, another video shows. At least 10 civilians have been injured in the attack, though the exact tally remains unknown.

Nevada to divest from manufacturers of ‘assault-style weapons’

State treasurer says companies present “market risk."

The state of Nevada will divest any holdings it has in weapons companies that manufacture what the state’s CFO calls “assault-style weapons,” a move that comes after another high-profile mass shooting involving an AR-style rifle.

State Treasurer Zach Conine posted on Twitter on Friday that he had “directed our team to divest the State of Nevada from any investment in a business that profits from the sale or manufacture of assault-style weapons.”

“No one policy or law will fix this crisis, but we all must do something,” Conine wrote.

In a press release, Conine said that “beginning immediately, the Treasurer’s Office will implement an internal policy to no longer invest public funds in companies that profit off the manufacture or sale of assault-style weapons.”

The state will also “direct external financial managers and outside investment partners to take similar action and limit business with manufacturers and sellers of assault style weapons.”

Conine in his press release does not define “assault-style weapons,” and indeed the definition itself has often been viewed as a largely political one rather than a meaningful description of any one type of firearm.

The move comes weeks after a mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas, in which a gunman used an AR-platform rifle to shoot and kill nearly two dozen schoolchildren and several adults.

Rep. Elise Stefanik: GOP Ready to Provide Counter Programming to ‘Illegitimate’ January 6 Hearing

Republicans are ready to provide counterprogramming to the “illegitimate” January 6 Committee hearing, House Republican Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY) told Breitbart News Saturday.

The committee announced it will be holding its first primetime hearing on Thursday, June 9 at 8 p.m. Eastern. The upcoming hearing gained even more attention after the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) arrested former White House economic adviser Peter Navarro for refusing to testify before the committee.

Stefanik said the committee is about nothing more than punishing political opponents and targeting “patriotic Trump supporters.” Further, she noted that it does not even address the actual issue — to make sure the U.S. Capitol has adequate security. Meanwhile, she said Americans are dealing with rampant inflation, high gas prices, a border crisis, and baby formula crisis. It is going to be both a “circus” and “political witch hunt,” Stefanik predicted.

“[Democrats] are doubling down looking for any desperate attempt to try to change the narrative. But look, the American people are smart. They see through this, they want a Congress that’s focused on the issues that matter to them,” she said.

Further, the House Republican conference chairwoman said the GOP is ready to counter House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) partisan witch hunt.

Gov. Noem Says She Will Sue if Biden Cuts Funding to States That Don’t Allow Biological Males to Play on Girls Sports Teams

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem says she will sue the Biden administration if they cut federal funding to states that don’t allow biological males to compete in girls sports.

Last month, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) said they will be interpreting Title IX funding “to include discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.”

This means that schools would potentially be at risk of losing federal funding for free-and-reduced price meals for kids if they do not allow boys to play on girls teams. The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) feeds more than 29 million children in the United States each day.

“USDA is committed to administering all its programs with equity and fairness, and serving those in need with the highest dignity. A key step in advancing these principles is rooting out discrimination in any form—including discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity,” said Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack in a statement.

In February, Governor Noem passed a law requiring students to participate in sports based on their sex at birth.

“President Biden is holding lunch money for poor Americans hostage in pursuit of his radical agenda,” Noem said in a statement.

“He is insisting that we allow biological males to compete in girls’ sports or else lose funding for SNAP and school lunch programs,” Noem’s statement continued. “South Dakota will continue to defend basic fairness so that our girls can compete and achieve. I would remind President Biden that we have defeated him in litigation before and are ready to do so again. Mr. President, we’ll see you in court.”
