Putin: Russia air defense systems 'cracking like nuts' western weapons

Russian President Vladimir Putin underlined on Saturday during an interview for the Russian Channel One broadcaster that the Russian air defense systems are "cracking like nuts" new weapons supplied by the United States to Ukraine with dozens of units already destroyed.

Commenting on the new US weapons deliveries to Kiev, which include the long-range HIMARS systems, Putin said that "our air defense systems are cracking like nuts [American weapons], dozens of them have been destroyed."

Putin's statements come as the US Under-Secretary of Defense for Policy Colin Kahl told a press briefing on Wednesday that the Pentagon has decided to provide High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) to Ukraine due to the nature of the conflict changing to an "artillery duel".

US President Joe Biden had announced that his country would provide Ukraine with more advanced rocket systems and munitions, which include HIMARS rocket systems.

Ukraine loses 90% of troops involved in Severodonetsk battles

Multiple Ukrainian units have lost up to 90% of their military troops in the fighting for Severodonetsk and are currently fleeing toward Lysychansk, according to Mikhail Mizintsev, the head of Russia's National Defense Control Center.

"Units of the Ukrainian armed forces, having suffered critical losses (in multiple units — up to 90%) during the battles for Severodonetsk, are retreating in the direction of Lysychansk," Mizintsev said.

The national defense also reported earlier that Ukrainian nationalists set fire to a wooden monastery as they fled from Svyatogorsk on Saturday.

"Ukrainian nationalists on June 4 set fire to a wooden monastery of the Svyatogorsk Dormition Laura as Ukraine’s 79th air assault brigade retreated from the town of Svyatogorsk of the Donetsk People’s Republic," the Ministry said in a statement.

A few days ago, Russian troops surged deeper into a key eastern Ukrainian city on Monday in light of the European Union's decision to embargo most Russian oil imports by the end of the year.

Russia: Leaked former MI6 head emails show UK defies democratic ideals

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova considered on Saturday that the recently disclosed plans of the British elites to change power in the United Kingdom contradict the allegedly democratic ideals of the country's government system.

Zakharova's remarks came while commenting on the leaked emails of Richard Dearlove, the former head of the UK intelligence service MI6.

On May 15, independent outlet The Grayzone released a cache of Dearlove's emails, which allegedly disclose plans of the British elites advocating for Brexit to change power in the country over then-UK Prime Minister Theresa May's lack of initiative on the matter.

The elites reportedly intended to undermine May's Brexit deal, which they viewed as weak, by infiltrating the government, spying on campaign groups, and replacing May with Boris Johnson.

"This does not really fit with the touted democratic ideals of the British parliamentary monarchy, to be honest,” Zakharova considered.

According to The Grayzone, the entire operation had been sponsored by Tim and Mary Clode — an aristocratic couple who had settled in a "tax haven" on Jersey Island. The husband and wife have avoided being mentioned on social networks in recent years, the report highlighted.

"Therefore, they fit perfectly the role of 'money bags' and had been allocating money monthly to prepare 'products' [compromising evidence and defamation articles]," the Russian Spokesperson said.

Zakharova criticized Dearlove for accusing Russia of the leak, adding that the UK authorities and elites apparently believe that the British can learn the truth about their own government and democracy only from the Russians.

Russia to investigate UK lawmaker's son fighting in Ukraine

Russia's Investigative Committee will conduct a judicial examination of Ben Grant's actions in Ukraine, the son of a conservative member of the UK Parliament who headed a company of mercenaries.

"As part of the criminal case [under the article] of mercenary activities, the investigation will establish the role of a relative of British Member of Parliament Helen Grant… His actions will receive a criminal-legal assessment," the statement said.

Several UK news agencies circulated a video on Friday showing a group of foreign mercenaries attacking a Russian armored personnel vehicle in Ukraine.

According to the i newspaper, Ben Grant was seen in the video yelling "shoot it now" and "mind the back blast" to another man who was aiming at an anti-tank missile Matador at the military vehicle.

Grant is said to have spent five years in the Royal Marines. In early March, he made his first public appearance in Ukraine, speaking to the media in Lvov.

Moreover, Russia's Defense Ministry confirmed that the Russian Aerospace Forces have destroyed a large arsenal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) at a storage site in Krivoi Rog using high-precision, long-range missiles.

The Russian Armed Forces hit three command posts, 25 areas of AFU troop and military equipment concentration, and two artillery batteries at firing positions over the past day using high-precision, air-based missiles.

'Tomato flu' outbreak causes panic due to monkeypox-like symptoms

The health authorities in India are on high alert following the breakout of a mysterious illness named "tomato flu" that has symptoms similar to those of monkeypox.

The virus has left authorities scrambling and caused widespread panic after New Delhi registered more than 80 cases since early May. The disease gets its name, "tomato flu" or "tomato fever", from the red blisters it causes.

The viral infection mainly affects children under the age of five. Just like the monkeypox virus, infected individuals develop symptoms that include the appearance of large rashes on the whole body in the form of extremely painful and contagious red blisters.

Local reports suggest that the virus can lead to tiredness, joint pain, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, sneezing, runny nose, high fever, and body aches.

Several virologists say "tomato flu" could be a new variant of the foot-hand-mouth viral infection, which is largely common among children.

"It is not a fatal disease, but it is contagious and can spread from person to person, although the actual ways in which the infection spreads are still being studied," Dr. Subhash Chandra, assistant professor of Internal Medicine at the Amrita Hospital, told India Today on Friday.

"Patients who develop tomato fever should drink plenty of fluids and rest in bed, as it is also advised for other viral fevers, to keep the body hydrated and well-rested," he added.

Medical professionals are unsure of how to treat the illness, and they are currently only tackling symptoms of the flu.

Experts are currently trying to figure out whether "tomato flu" is a viral fever or an aftereffect of tropical diseases such as dengue fever.

Though the majority of the cases have been discovered in the southern Indian state of Kerala, health officials throughout the country have upped their state of alert and are currently looking at ways they can contain the virus.

"If someone is infected with this flu, they need to be kept in isolation as this could spread rapidly from one person to another," Dr. P Aruna, the deputy director of health services at Coimbatore told The Indian Express.
