US State-Affiliated NewsGuard Targets Consortium News
The Pentagon and State Dept.-linked outfit, with an ex-N.S.A. and C.I.A. director on its board, is accusing Consortium News of publishing âfalse contentâ on Ukraine, reports Joe Lauria.
Consortium News is being âreviewedâ by NewsGuard, a U.S. government-linked organization that is trying to enforce a narrative on Ukraine while seeking to discredit dissenting views.
The organization has accused Consortium News, begun in 1995 by former Associated Press investigative reporter Robert Parry, of publishing âfalse contentâ on Ukraine.
It calls âfalseâ essential facts about Ukraine that have been suppressed in mainstream media: 1) that there was a U.S.-backed coup in 2014 and 2) that neo-Nazism is a significant force in Ukraine. Reporting crucial information left out of corporate media is Consortium Newsâ essential mission.
But NewsGuard considers these facts to be âmythsâ and is demanding Consortium News âcorrectâ these âerrors.â
Who is NewsGuard?
NewsGuard set itself up in 2018 as a judge of news organizationsâ credibility. The front page of NewsGuardâs website shows that it is âpartnersâ with the State Department and the Pentagon, as well as with several major corporations, such as Microsoft. The nature of these âpartnershipsâ is not entirely clear.
NewsGuard is a private corporation that can shield itself from First Amendment obligations. But it has connections to formerly high-ranking U.S. government officials in addition to its âpartnershipsâ with the State Dept. and the Pentagon.
Among those sitting on NewsGuardâs advisory board are Gen. Michael Hayden, the former Central Intelligence Agency and National Security Agency director; Tom Ridge, the first U.S. Homeland Security director and Anders Fogh Rasmussen, a former secretary general of NATO. NewGuard says its âadvisors provide advice and subject-matter expertise to NewsGuard. They play no role in the determinations of ratings or the Nutrition Label write ups of websites unless otherwise noted and have no role in the governance or management of the organization.â

A Texas gay bar hosted a "Drag the Kids to Pride" event where drag queen dancers provocatively gyrated in front of children as young as toddlers. Tensions flared when protesters demonstrated outside the venue hosting the drag queen show for children.
The Mr. Misster gay bar in downtown Dallas hosted the drag queen event aimed at children.
A poster for the "Drag the Kids to Pride" event claims it is the "ultimate family friendly pride experience."
"Our under 21 guests can enjoy a special Mr. Misster Mocktails while the moms and dads can sip on one of our classic Mr. Misster Mimosa Towers," the poster reads. "Do you want to hit the stage with the queens? We have FIVE limited spots for young performers to take the stage solo, or with a queen of their choosing! Come hangout with the Queens and enjoy this unique pride experience, fit for guests of all ages!"
The Texas gay bar said the "Drag the Kids to Pride" event was a spinoff of Mr. Misster's Champagne Drag Brunch â which tickets start at $25 and go all the way up to $600.

Far-Left MSNBC Host: Republicans Are Going to âCheatâ in the Midterms â âThey Know Their Policies Are Trashâ
Far-left MSNBC host Tiffany Cross on Saturday said Republicans are going to âcheatâ in the midterm elections because no one likes their policies.
Tiffany Cross was referring to a recent report by Politico detailing GOP plans to âcontest elections.â

Video recordings of Republican Party operatives meeting with grassroots activists provide an inside look at a multi-pronged strategy to target and potentially overturn votes in Democratic precincts: Install trained recruits as regular poll workers and put them in direct contact with party attorneys.
The plan, as outlined by a Republican National Committee staffer in Michigan, includes utilizing rules designed to provide political balance among poll workers to install party-trained volunteers prepared to challenge voters at Democratic-majority polling places, developing a website to connect those workers to local lawyers and establishing a network of party-friendly district attorneys who could intervene to block vote counts at certain precincts.
âBeing a poll worker, you just have so many more rights and things you can do to stop something than [as] a poll challenger,â said Matthew Seifried, the RNCâs election integrity director for Michigan, stressing the importance of obtaining official designations as poll workers in a meeting with GOP activists in Wayne County last Nov. 6. It is one of a series of recordings of GOP meetings between summer of 2021 and May of this year obtained by POLITICO.
Backing up those front-line workers, âitâs going to be an army,â Seifried promised at an Oct. 5 training session. âWeâre going to have more lawyers than weâve ever recruited, because letâs be honest, thatâs where itâs going to be fought, right?â
âThey know their policies are trash. They know they canât win elections on merit,â Cross said on Saturday.
