Ice cream isn't really all that expensive right now. It's not gas, it's not bacon.
true, unless the supermarket doesn't want to change the price of everything.
prices of things don't really match the cost of things.

changing the shelf tags requires labor which costs money. they just don't change the prices of everything when the input costs change.
you can make any argument that you like. they don't do that.
track the prices of things by looking at the weekly flyer at the supermarket week in, week out. sometimes split chicken breasts are on sale for .99 a pound. other times, 2.49, prices do not match the costs.
they change prices, but not due to a change in costs. they change prices for reasons other than costs.
at my local supermarket, split chicken breasts are 99 cents a pound, this week, last week, over 2 bucks, next week, over 2 bucks. prices set by supermarkets are not based on their costs. the supermarket is not getting split chicken breasts for half the normal price this week. they just aren't.
Ice cream is not some luxury that many can't afford. It just isn't. $2.75 for the 1.5 quart package. Not very expensive, it just isn't.
I would classify ice cream as something cheap.
