Gold is highly effective as a thermal radiation barrier, and since is malleable, can be pounded into sheets that are extremely thin and still be effective. Gold leaf is one example of how thin gold can be made. You see it on many pictures of satellites being used as a thermal radiation barrier. Might be a thin coating on the clear visors in space-suits as well, not sure.
Does this comment suggest that ancient Egyptians had met "people" that were using gold in this manner, which they took as skin? They would not have known the science for why it was chosen as a material. Does this corroborate alien visitation long ago?
