U.S. Daniel Boone Day is observed on June 7, because on this day, in 1769, Daniel Boone was the first American to see the valleys and forests of Kentucky! He founded the village of Boonesborough, Kentucky, which was one of the first American settlements west of the Appalachian Mountains.

On this day 78 years ago, 156,000 soldiers landed in Normandy to liberate France during WWII.
Every year, French soldiers take sand from Omaha Beach and rub it onto the gravestones to give the letters a gold coloring.
They do this for all 9,386 American soldiers buried there.
