'Worst AI ever' loves to make 'unspeakably horrible' racist posts and troll online

An artificial intelligence researcher says he has created "the worst AI ever" capable of making tens of thousands of hateful posts online.
YouTuber Yannic Kilcher says he trained an AI using the Politically Incorrect message board on the website 4chan, a controversial forum infamous for its 'hateful' anonymous posts.
Using 3.3 million threads from three years on the site, the bot—called GPT-4chan—learned how to talk on the website. Its creator then 'unleashed' 9 versions of the AI back onto 4chan, where it went on to make thousands and thousands of offensive, cruel and even 'violent' posts in less than one day.
Using a language model, the AI was able to learn how to write posts that are 'indistinguishable' from those written by humans.
Apparently, 4chan users started noticing the bot's posts and speculating who was behind the posts. Kilcher says that initially nobody thought it was a chatbot because of how realistic it was.
"The model is quite vile, I have to warn you," Kilcher said. "It's essentially the same as if you went to the website and interacted with users there."
However, he said it "was good in a terrible sense. It perfectly encapsulated the mix of offensiveness, nihilism, trolling, and deep distrust of any information whatsoever that permeates most posts [on the site].
Users of 4chan took to YouTube to share their experiences of interacting with the bot. One user wrote: "I just had it respond to 'hi' and it started ranting about illegal immigrants."
The experiment highlighted the potential scale of AI being used online to spread misinformation and hate speech. One commenter wrote: "Bravo you fooled me. It's really scary to think that I have been sharing memes with literal AIs because I doubt that you were the only one."
One user, Arnaud Wanet, wrote: "This can be weaponised for political purposes, imagine how easy one can sway an election outcome with this one way or another."

Why are boosted Americans testing positive for COVID more than those without extra shot?

ince late February, Americans who have gotten a booster shot appear to be testing positive for COVID-19 more often than those vaccinated without the extra shot, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data.
This is based on numbers up until the week of April 23, which is the most recently released CDC data comparing case rates of those boosted, vaccinated and unvaccinated against the coronavirus. Ultimately, the numbers, which are updated monthly, showed those unvaccinated had the highest case rates overall.
Meanwhile, about 119 out of 100,000 boosted individuals tested positive for COVID-19 during the week of April 23, according to CDC data. In comparison, 56 out of 100,000 individuals vaccinated with only a primary series tested positive.
But why are the case rates higher for boosted individuals than for those vaccinated without a booster?
Dr. Sheela Shenoi, an infectious disease doctor and assistant professor at Yale School of Medicine, told McClatchy News over the phone that “there’s no biological reason that people who have had (the vaccine) and boosters are going to be at increased risk for COVID.”
“These numbers are not telling us the whole truth,” Shenoi said.

Mexican megachurch leader gets more than 16 years for abuse

The leader of the Mexican megachurch La Luz del Mundo was sentenced Wednesday to more than 16 years in a California prison for sexually abusing young female followers who said he made them his sex slaves.
NaasĂłn JoaquĂn GarcĂa, 53, abruptly pleaded guilty last week in Los Angeles Superior Court to three felonies on the eve of a long-awaited trial.
Prosecutors said GarcĂa, who is considered the “apostle” of Jesus Christ by his 5 million worldwide followers, used his spiritual sway to have sex with girls and young women who were told it would lead to their salvation — or damnation if they refused.
“I never cease to be amazed at what people do in the name of religion and how many lives are ruined in the guise of a supreme being,” said Judge Ronald Coen, who called GarcĂa a sexual predator.
The sentence came after nearly three hours of emotional statements by five young women GarcĂa was charged with sexually abusing. They had once been his most devoted servants. But in court they called him “evil” and a “monster,” “disgusting human waste” and the “antichrist.”
“I worshipped my abuser,” said a woman identified as Jane Doe 4 and said she was his niece. “He used me over and over again like a sacrificial lamb taken to slaughter.”
GarcĂa, dressed in orange jail scrubs and wearing a surgical mask pulled under his glasses, didn’t turn to face the women. He sat upright and looked straight ahead with this hands shackled at his waist as he followed along with the proceedings listening through ear phones to a Spanish interpreter.
GarcĂa pleaded guilty Friday to two counts of forcible oral copulation involving minors and one count of a lewd act upon a child who was 15. In exchange, prosecutors dropped 16 counts that included allegations of raping children and women, as well as human trafficking to produce child pornography.
The victims objected to the plea deal, saying they only learned about it at the last minute and were not consulted. They implored Coen to impose a stiffer sentence but he said his hands were tied by the agreement.
“The world has heard you,” he told the weeping Jane Does and their supporters. “I promise you that.”
The church, which is also known as the Light of the World, said in a statement that GarcĂa pleaded guilty because he didn’t think he could get a fair trial after prosecutors withheld or doctored evidence. The agreement would allow him to be freed sooner.
“The Apostle of Jesus Christ has had no choice but to accept with much pain that the agreement presented is the best way forward to protect the church and his family,” the church said. It repeated its support for him.
