PGA Tour disciplines golfers 'who have decided to turn their backs' on organization to play for LIV Golf

Elite golfers follow Phil Mickelson in leaving PGA Tour

OutKick founder Clay Travis explains how money is a factor in elite players leaving the PGA Tour and a Walmart heir purchasing the Denver Broncos

Golfers participating in LIV Golf tournaments will no longer be eligible to compete in PGA Tour events and the Presidents Cup, Commissioner Jay Monahan told members in a memo obtained by Fox News Digital on Thursday.

The memo to PGA Tour members was sent as LIV Golf’s first tournament teed off in London. The Saudi-backed league will feature stars like Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Kevin Na, Lee Westwood and others. Monahan thanked those who committed to this weekend's RBC Canadian Open and addressed his letter to "those players who have decided to turn their backs on the PGA TOUR by willfully violating a regulation."

The memo specifically singled out Johnson, Mickelson, Na, Westwood, Sergio Garcia, Talor Gooch, Branden Grace, Matt Jones, Martin Kaymer, Graeme McDowell, Andy Ogletree, Louis Oosthuizen, Turk Pettit, Ian Poulter, Charl Schwartzel, Hudson Swafford and Peter Uihlein. Monahan said either these players didn’t receive releases to play in LIV Golf or didn’t apply for the releases at all.

Players who resigned their memberships, including Garcia, Grace, Johnson, Kaymer, McDowell, Na, Oosthuizen, Pettit, Schwartzel and Westwood, would be removed from the FedEx Cup Points List following the conclusion of the RBC Canadian Open, according to the memo. Those players who resigned will not be allowed to play in PGA Tour tournaments as a non-member via sponsor exemption or any other eligibility category.

JUSTIN THOMAS ON PROS JUMPING TO LIV GOLF: 'PEOPLE ARE ENTITLED TO CHOOSE AS THEY WISH'

"These players have made their choice for their own financial-based reasons. But they can’t demand the same PGA Tour membership benefits, considerations, opportunities and platform as you. That expectation disrespects you, our fans and our partners. You have made a different choice, which is to abide by the Tournament Regulations you agreed to when you accomplished the dream of earning a PGA Tour card and – more importantly – to compete as part of the preeminent organization in the world of professional golf," the memo read.

"I am certain our fans and partners – who are surely tired of all this talk of money, money and more money – will continue to be entertained and compelled by the world-class competition you display each and every week, where there are true consequences for every shot you take and your rightful place in history whenever you reach that elusive winner’s circle."

Monahan lauded those who remained with the PGA Tour and said being with the organization was about "lifting up" everyone involved.

"I know you are with us, and vice versa. Our partners are with us, too. The fact that your former Tour colleagues can’t say the same should be telling," Monahan added.

LIV Golf, backed by Saudi Arabia’s financial arm, shook up the golf world when it began to offer PGA Tour members insane sums of money to compete in the rival league.

Some players decided to jump to the new league and in turn faced the wrath of the PGA Tour. The discipline will also apply to players who may decide to bolt the PGA Tour in the future.

LIV Golf responded to the PGA Tour’s suspension, calling it "vindictive."

"Today’s announcement by the PGA Tour is vindictive and it deepens the divide between the Tour and its members. It’s troubling that the Tour, an organization dedicated to creating opportunities for golfers to play the game, is the entity blocking golfers from playing," LIV Golf said.

"This certainly is not the last word on this topic. The era of free agency is beginning as we are proud to have a full field of playing joining s in London, and beyond."

Police arrested a suspect Wednesday in the brutal beating of a female mobile phone store employee that was caught on video.

Michael Cook was charged with assault, kidnapping, robbery and criminal trespassing and booked into the Maricopa County Jail in Arizona on Wednesday, according to Fox 10 Phoenix. Cook allegedly punched and kicked Cricket Wireless employee Maria Coronado before taking three phones from the store. (RELATED: ‘Crime Is Increasing’: Police Sgt. Says Gov. Police reports say that Cook admitted to selling two of the phones so he could buy drugs, Fox 10 reported. Cook allegedly made threats prior to the attack to other employees at the store.

“It just breaks my heart that no matter what I did; I plead with him, I even told him I was pregnant just to see if maybe that he would stop, and he didn’t,” Coronado said, according to Fox 10.

Cook’s mother told Fox 10 her son had schizophrenia and stopped taking his medication.

“He was evil,” Coronado said. “He knew what he was doing. This was premeditated. He came four times the whole day, just seeing if there were customers, if I was alone.”

Mentally ill man arrested in disturbing beating of store worker: cops

nypost.com/2022/06/09/mentally-ill-man-arrested-in-disturbing-beating-of-store-worker

By Joshua Rhett MillerJune 9, 2022

A mentally ill man caught on video ruthlessly beating a cellphone store employee in Phoenix has been arrested, police said.

Michael Cook, 33 — whose family said he has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia but doesn’t take his medication regularly — was arrested Tuesday in the brutal attack on a Cricket Wireless employee, Phoenix police said.

Department officials previously posted a 57-second clip of Saturday’s attack, which occurred as Maria Coronado, 22, was working alone at the store.

“How can I help you?” Coronado asked the man in the clip identified by cops as Cook.

The disturbed suspect immediately launched himself onto Coronado, taking her to the floor and punching her relentlessly as she screams and pleads for him to stop, the footage shows.

The agonizing assault continued as Cook got back onto his feet and began stomping Coronado. He then walked off into a back room — where he allegedly stole cash and phones — as the battered worker ran out of the store, according to the clip.

Cook has been charged with robbery, kidnapping, assault and criminal trespassing. His mother told cops he was not taking his schizophrenia medication at the time, KSAZ reported.

Cook told cops he heard voices in his head to kill himself before assaulting Coronado. Police said he also admitted stealing three cellphones, selling two of them later for fentanyl and methamphetamine, according to the station.

Coronado needed several stitches to close a gash on her face and had a fractured nose.

“He was evil,” she told KSAZ. “He knew what he was doing. This was premeditated. He came four times the whole day, just seeing if there were customers, if I was alone. On Wednesday, he literally told a manager, ‘I’m going to come back and kill you.'”

Cook was a regular customer at the store, Coronado said, but no one had contacted cops about the prior alleged threat. She now fears working alone after the ferocious assault.

“It just breaks my heart that no matter what I did — I plead with him, I even told him I was pregnant just to see if maybe that he would stop, and he didn’t,” she told KSAZ. “He just kept on going and going and going.”

An online fundraiser set up on behalf of Coronado had raised more than $2,500 as of Thursday.

“This could’ve happened to anyone working on the job,” the website reads. “No one should ever have to go through this.”

Cook was turned in to police by his relatives, AZFamily.com reported.

“We’ve been trying to get him help, he doesn’t take it,” brother Malik Cook told the outlet. “And then we hope when he is outside, he doesn’t go and abuse people.”

Malik Cook said he hopes his brother’s arrest serves as a wake-up call.

“Either you figure out a better decision for how you live, or you end up in [prison] the rest of your life,” he told AZFamily.com.
