It occurs to me that a concerning number of people may not be aware that there are ongoing trials over Guantanamo Bay detainees, and that those trials have been going on for years, and that the defense and prosecution are both forced to confer with CIA representatives to make sure none of their statements "harm US national security interests".
So if you were unaware that those trials have been taking place. They have, and are. And you would do well to research them.
For instance. You would then be aware that Abu Zubaydah and ten other "high-value detainees" were transferred to Guantanamo in September 2006, and held at Camp 7, where they were routinely tortured for four years, and produced exactly 0 actionable intelligence and provided exactly 0 useful details to the US.
You would be aware that they were routinely sexually, physically, and mentally assaulted and deprived of basic human dignity, and that to this day the CIA is blocking investigations into their destruction of key evidence, tapes of the actual torture made.
You wound know that several of those people are still imprisoned there (37 as of writing this). Not because of their guilt, but because of what was done to them by the CIA. So endless litigation is used as a form of arbitrary semi-permanent detention. And you would be aware that the CIAs torture programs and black sites are still in full swing and are still funded by the everyday US taxpayer's dollar.
