Went to the corner gas/convenience mart for a tall one and there was a thin white lady at the counter who I never saw before. The store was empty, just her and I. Went to the cooler, got my beer and went to the counter. Said, hi, how you doing? She said okay. I said: you looking for better times? She had me repeat it: are you looking for better times? She answered: I've always been looking for better times. I said: yeah, we all know that, but, in the last year or so has that gotten stronger. Like, are you NOW looking for better times than ever before? She said yes. I said: so am I sister, and I'm here to tell you better times are finally coming. Just hold on for a little longer. Earlier had asked her if she was new. She said no, she normally works the night shift. So, as I was leaving I said my dad worked night shift in the mines, it's a tough shift. Said I had many days where I worked 20 hours but I never worked night shift (we called it hoot-owl shift). She said it's okay, she's handling it. Said: God bless you as I walked out.
