Albertans must prevent Ottawa from controlling what content they see online. That could mean total independence from the rest of Canada, at least as far as the internet is concerned.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Liberal government are gearing up to expand their authoritarian control of our lives to encompass the digital realm using their Trojan horse of a censorship law, Bill C-11.

In fact, C-11 just passed its third reading in the House of Commons and is currently making its way through the Senate before becoming the law of the land. Although cleverly disguised as a way to preserve the Canadian cultural industry, the law has frightening consequences for freedom of expression in Alberta and Canada as a whole.

Trudeau-appointed bureaucrats in charge of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) will have the power to dictate what ordinary Canadians say online. They will be able to control a platform’s algorithms to promote favourable coverage while suppressing content the government might disagree with.

Like every policy that’s coming out of Ottawa these days, it could land a crushing blow to the prosperity and independence of Western Canada. Continue…

Russia In "Goodwill" Withdrawal From Ukraine's Snake Island To Free Up Grain Exports

Russia has taken a major step in trying to demonstrate to Western powers that it's serious about freeing up grain passage off Ukraine's coast and in the Black Sea, with on Thursday its military announcing the complete withdrawal of forces from Ukraine's Snake Island.

The Russian Defense Ministry (MoD) said in a statement that the purpose is to free the passage of Ukraine's grain exports in a "goodwill" measure. "On June 30, as a step of goodwill, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation completed their tasks on the Snake Island and withdrew from the garrison stationed there," the MoD said.

"Thus, it was demonstrated to the world community that the Russian Federation does not hinder the efforts of the UN to organize a humanitarian corridor for the export of agricultural products from the territory of Ukraine," it stated further.

The statement then called on Ukraine's government to clear its mines earlier placed on the sea coast and in ports which the Kremlin says is the major impediment blocking sea transit. The northwest Black Sea island has been under control of the Russian military since the start of the conflict, making the retreat of Russian forces a rare and significant battlefield de-escalation there.

However, Ukraine disputed Russia's version of events, rejecting that it was a voluntary "goodwill" withdrawal initiated by the Russian side, instead claiming that it was Ukraine's military that drove the Russians from the island. Continue…

Why I’m Attending the Canada Day Protests

I wasn’t always this way.

Pre-pandemic, I lived a quiet, comfortable, relatively apolitical existence. My days were filled with activities and certainty — a life of carefully established routines ingrained into my being over the years. I wasn’t an activist. I wasn’t a researcher. I wasn’t anything of consequence, really.

But, of course, in 2020, that all changed.

My Mother passed away during lockdowns. A brief remote goodbye was granted to me over a video call to a body already devoid of life, followed by a quick cremation in the absence of a proper funeral. That was my goodbye.

I realized then we were wrong for agreeing to lockdown rules, but I had yet to realize just how wrong we could be.

The more I reflected on the panicked insanity building to a frenzy around us, the more I felt it. Nonsensical mandates, regulations, restrictions. Firings, school closures, and snitch lines to tell on your neighbours, all while fear-mongering media delivered a never-ending news stream of anxiety-ridden stories, browbeating us into reclusive submission for “the greater good”.

Twitter Censors Jordan Peterson for Calling ‘Elliot Page’ by Birth Name Ellen

Twitter has censored Canadian psychologist and bestselling author Dr. Jordan Peterson after he criticized transgender surgery and referred to transgender actress Ellen Page, who now goes by “Elliot” and identifies as a male, by her original name.

Peterson’s offending post was responding to a tweet from the account of the New York Post about Page: ” Elliot Page is ‘proud’ to introduce trans character on ‘Umbrella Academy.'”

Page, a woman, said she identified as a man in December 2020. The following year, she became the first transgender “man” to appear on the cover of TIME.

In response, Peterson tweeted “Remember when pride was a sin? And Ellen Page just had her breasts removed by a criminal physician.”

Twitter swiftly locked Peterson’s account, compelling him to delete the tweet to regain access. According to a post from Peterson’s frequent collaborator, Dave Rubin, the psychologist has said he will “never” delete the tweet.

“The insanity continues at Twitter,” said Rubin. “[Jordan Peterson] has been suspended for this tweet about Ellen Page. He just told me he will “never” delete the tweet. Paging [Elon Musk]…”

In its message to Peterson, Twitter said his account had been locked for “hateful conduct,” along with the now-common sight of Twitter’s rules on the matter: “you may not promote violence against, threaten, or harass other people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or serious disease.”

It is unclear whether the censorship of Peterson’s account was caused by the bestselling author using Ellen Page’s original name, criticizing the notion of “pride,” or calling the surgeon who operated on Page a criminal — or all three.
